I guess that’s why he gets labeled as”cuck/simp”.
You're forgetting the song. Never forget the song:

I think he's genuinely in love with Lindsay Ellis, and still hopes that one day they'll be together. For real. A while back (I think when Lindsay moved to L.A.) he uploaded a song he wrote and performed either to his YouTube channel or Channel Awesome. I can't find it now, unfortunately, but here are the lyrics: https://genius.com/Todd-in-the-shadows-ill-be-around-lyrics

Unfortunately this doesn't convey the full level of cringe. I'm pretty certain it's about Lindsay. To date, as far as I know, it's the only original music he's ever released.

EDIT: Just realized he didn't write it - it's a cover of a song by the Spinners. He still sang it for her though.

Green Day was also kept off the top spot by him
There's a point to be made somewhere off the fact that people would rather hear 50 cent tell them he'll melt in their mouth, not in their hands vs fake punk retards from Berkely or talent scouted first American Idol who probably banged Seacrest

He's talking about 50 Cent keeping Kelly Clarkson off the #1 spot in the charts.

I get that caring too much about old pop music drama is his whole thing, but it annoys me that he's so pretentious and takes himself so seriously. "Sexism and gatekeeping in 2005 alt-rock"? You're not deep, Todd.
Fifty has been publically pro-Trump as well lately. That can't have helped Todd's opinion of him.

Come to think of it, "Todd" is a pretty "white" name for a happa.

Not sure if I’d call Green Day “fake”, but I will concede that you can argue that they’re the kind of rock that doesn’t really do well to chart on billboard.

Didn’t he also make a rerelease of Many Men after the Butler rally (also, I think Get Rich or Die Tryin’ may be one of the best albums in all of hip hop)

Needlessly mentions his hatred for Xitter :agree:
Muh parents :agree:
KENDRICK IS KANG :agree: (also says Not Like Us should be the national anthem)

At least his #1 is a good song, could care less about the lyrical content though.
So the national anthem should be about accusing being pedophiles? Oddly fitting for the US.

I think the first half of this list was fine enough. Sabrina Carpenter genuinely sounds wonderful and the melodies are pleasant to the ears. Birds of the Feather is similarly a very gorgeous song. Are these easy picks? Probably, but what does it matter? I would imagine to hear good songs when i check out a video called "Top Ten Best Hit Songs of 2024".
Kendrick Lamar dickriding had me rolling my eyes, as Not Like Us started to sound increasingly boring to me as I kept hearing it, but the song was incredibly big for a reason.
Sticky compared to everything else on Chromakopia sounds bland, but i suppose nothing else that was interesting made any top hits lists.

Him hanging out with tra... sorry, "drag queens", more, somehow explains a lot of this list, him hating twitter and 2025, high positions of Chapelle Roan (I do not get her at all) and the whole video feeling like someone carefully engineered it to contain absolutely no fun, though I suppose him saying that he's feeling burnout when he makes year end lists would contribute to that last one a fair bit.

I will agree that the popular music, and music as a whole, does genuinely start feeling better and the more recent artists have made music that is thoroughly enjoyable and well made.

Nice, now that the two garbage top 10 videos are out he can come back to do fun shit again.
He said that he almost announced his retirement because he's lazy and unmotivated.

Honestly, if he had the kind of Patreon content output as Jenny Nicholson (one hour-or-more-long video per month guaranteed), I would consider paying a buck a month to get guaranteed OHWs or Trainwreckords. He won't though, because he's lazy and more dedicated to sucking tranny dick.

I think my favorite part was him putting Sabrina and Chappal on twice then barely mentioning Shaboozy. He clearly is just pandering to teenage girls.

Some notes:
  • He says that he was thinking about ending TitS and that he's only in it for the money. Could have just been a joke, but it sounded pretty convincing.
  • Beyonce/Miley Cyrus's song was apparently "too lesbian and female" for country music radio. I'm skeptical about this claim.
  • 2025 will be all about touching grass apparently. Somehow I doubt Todd will be any less terminally online than before.
  • Apparently Kim Petras 'fails' because his music isn't deep enough, rather than due to being a creepy troon.
  • Talks about tensions in his relationship with his parents. Possibly Trump voters? If so, I at least give him some credit for not cutting them off completely.
  • Uses the word 'brat' repeatedly as an adjective. You're far too old for that, Todd.
  • He hates Drake for not being a woman respecter. Kendrick's track was an example of "good triumphing over evil" apparently. Why don't you see if you can shove your nose a little farther up Kendrick's ass, Todd?
  • He goes on and on about how the Billie Eilish song at #5 is apparently a "transcendent" classic that my grandchildren are going to cherish. I've already forgotten it.
  • Todd talks a lot about how horny Sabrina Carpenter is and it sounds very creepy. Every time he brings up sex he sounds either like a virgin or an old pervert. Someone should have a word with him about it.
  • He says he swears he's "not here to perve out over a former child star" in a nudge-wink kind of way as if to say that's exactly what he's doing.
  • Apparently Tyler the Creator saying "I don't give a fuck about pronouns" is totally not problematic you guys. He'd be screeching if Tom McDonald had said the same thing lol.
  • He admits that his exes dumped him and never once looked back (a joke, but it made me think of Lindsay Ellis). This song clearly hits a little too close to home.
  • If it wasn't already obvious years ago "queerness" is a very big factor in deciding who gets on the best list.
  • Apparently he find country music "increasingly difficult to listen to". Quite a change after putting like five different country songs on one of his recent best lists.
  • Of course his number one is a degenerate anthem about an underage girl becoming a stripper, yougogirlslaykweenyass. Depressing and creepy LA-brained garbage.

I guess it's just me getting older, but pop music seems to only get uglier and more cringeworthy every year. It's like the soundtrack to a dying empire. Makes me want to find a cabin in the woods somewhere and hear nothing but the wind in the trees.

After watching the video, I'm pretty disappointed about the list. Although I'm overjoyed that Chappell is on there (Hi, I'm a huge Chappell fan), it just doesn't have enough variety. Three artists got two songs on the list, meaning the a little over half of the list is repetitive. Also, I'm somehow bummed "I Had Some Help" didn't appear on there like I thought it was going to. You disappoint me, Todd.
His list had the variety of a Spotify playlist on "shuffle".

Maybe it's me, but Sabrina Carpenter reminds me of Brooke Shields in "Pretty Baby" every time I see a photo of her. It's less "retro pin-up model," as Todd put it, and more "Lolita in a way that's actually a reference to the book Lolita".

Chapelle Roan (I do not get her at all)
She looks horse-faced and plays way too much into the queer thing that I hope is going out of style.

  • He says that he was thinking about ending TitS and that he's only in it for the money. Could have just been a joke, but it sounded pretty convincing.
You can kind of tell he knows he's aging out of this sort of thing, but let's not pretend that what's left of Channel Awesome crew did YouTube videos for so long without plans to do much of anything else. This is all they know, and all they've got left.
  • Beyonce/Miley Cyrus's song was apparently "too lesbian and female" for country music radio. I'm skeptical about this claim.
I get the claim, but I'm tired of this notion that people just thought country would somehow welcome Beyonce with open arms to country music. She's not doing anything like, say, Robert Plant or Neil Young or David Byrne. You can like those guys, you can hate those guys, but what you can't say is that when they went experimental, it was cynical. Beyonce going country was basically her wearing a new outfit. She didn't have to study anything. She just assumed if she showed up in the right hat and boots, that was her automatic ticket to being "in" country music.

That's why people didn't respond well to Beyonce doing "country", because she's a poseur.

Anyone who is still doing YouTube as long as he has and hasn't found a way to monetize his channel outside of doing videos and Patreon (e.g., selling merchandise) ain't touching grass, because he has to hustle. He still admits to needing to sell requests to pay for his dog's surgery.

Maybe Todd means to go full-pop historian in the future? He has said that he views himself more as a historian than a critic.

Personally, I view both of his top ten lists this years as kind of “meh,” overall. A part of me thinks Todd needs Bieber or Adam Levine.

Do you buy she is a shoot lesbian or is it a work for the fans

I wasn't really paying much attention when all that was going on, but now I think about it, what you said makes complete sense. I think it's fine if Beyonce wants to make country music but the expectation that country fans are going to bow down and worship her for it is absurdly patronizing. And yet if they don't then of course they're all accused of being racists. I don't actually know if that was her expectation but Todd's preachy reaction to it is so predictable.

I could see him branching out, maybe writing articles for Rolling Stone or somewhere like that. Maybe a book. If Lindsay Ellis could get a book deal I don't see why Todd couldn't, and it would probably sell a lot more copies than hers have done. Another podcast perhaps. He has a few options.
