He's so up Kenny's ass that he can't make it through the new Drake album lmao. He REALLY doesn't want to hear Drake's point of view. What a dick.
Think of it this way: that just means he has more time to talk about his new favorites like yes Kendrick Lamar, but also Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

Though I have to wonder how long Chappell will have a career considering she went onto the Grammys stage and had the audacity to advocate for something that could benefit artist because record labels like to screw them over. Music may be the most brutal wing of the entertainment industry if you’re trying to make it big.

I'm not terribly optimistic about her long-term prospects as a pop star. The curse of winning the Best New Artist Grammy, bitching about the labels (though DTC promotion through social media and digital downloads does help new artists get out of the tyranny of labels) and complaining about her fans getting way too parasocial all point to someone who probably can't handle the spotlight for long. Maybe I'm wrong and her followup to The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess will be a smash hit, but I see her following the Carly Rae Jepsen path and retreating to a cult following with lots of performances in Pride week.

To be fair you can't really "point of view" your way out of being a sex pest. I still despise this beef and hope both people involved in it explode.

I don't usually like to make assumptions about artists' personal lives but Ms. Roan seems a little unstable. If she keeps draining the goodwill of the music industry like this, all it's going to take is one public meltdown for them to kick her to the curb.

Just because it hit #1 because of the Super Bowl doesn't mean it's gonna be the song of this year too, Todd.
Honestly, I’m reminded of @Not A Bunny said:

Every time Not Like Us is performed, you gotta wonder if it’s because 1. It’s Kendrick Lamar’s biggest song he’s ever had, 2. He must REALLY hate Drake THAT much, which leads to 3. Folks like Todd and his fans reveling in a sense of superiority that Kendrick Lamar seems to have because “I don’t like Drake, and the hottest rapper on the planet doesn’t like him either.”

And that’s not even getting into the political and racial analysis of Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance (which I think was the point of said performance considering Kendrick Lamar has a Pulitzer Prize and positioned himself as not just a thinking man’s rapper, but also the antithesis of what Drake represents to the music industry?) Either way, I think it has to say something when the only thing about the Super Bowl Halftime Show announcement people wondered about was “Will he perform Not Like Us?”

The hosts of that podcast sound insufferable. It's funny and something of a credit to his commitment to his bit that Todd actually does have clout and connections in the elite bicoastal creative scene (of which the quirky 46yo author daughter of Erica Jong is most certainly part). The guy who was smearing hamburgers on himself a decade ago is now a respected music commentator by people with status, invited to opine with the navel-gazing thought leaders.

Who would have thought that description would be how Todd would be talked about back when he was brought onto TGWTG back in 2010?

Or even a retrospective for someone's career like how he does OHW, just giving an oversight on someone who was big for a while and then fell out of favor.
This is the basic premise of Mic the Snare's Deep Discog Dive series. It's pretty good. He's got the usual retarded politics you'd expect from a music major, but he does have the good sense to keep it to a minimum. Usually, if he does make a political comment, it's couched in a joke. Sometimes, they're even funny, which makes them infinitely more tolerable to me.

It's so crazy how Todd was totally unengaged with basically every major pop event of 2024, with the sole exception of this one flaccid rap beef, which he's still drooling over to the point of analysing first-week sales numbers. Maybe something about Kendrick vs. Drake has triggered his sadistic millennial geek tendencies & he wants nothing more than to see the bad guy get his shit kicked in as hard as possible.

I am BEGGING him to talk about anything else.
