'Next James Bond star' Tom Hardy responded to 007 casting news

Hardy told The Daily Beast: "There's a saying amongst us in the fraternity of acting, that if you talk about [playing James Bond] you're automatically out of the race."

He followed up by apologising: "So I can't possibly comment on that one!"

His method of keeping quiet has kept him in good graces, it would seem, as his name has continually been at the top of the Bond odds.

Tom Hardy is actually one of the best action movie stars in the last decade, so if he becomes the new James Bond, I won’t be too surprised. A guy like him has really come a long way.

I actually wanted it to be him, and even though I'm usually not a fan of woke casting I think he'd have been great. Tom Hardy, meh, he's a wonderful actor, but he's not tall enough and at least mostly as he has been cast doesn't come off with the right suaveness.

Tom Hardy is actually one of the best action movie stars in the last decade, so if he becomes the new James Bond, I won’t be too surprised. A guy like him has really come a long way.

I was really pulling for Elliott Page to land the role so I am a bit dissapointed with this casting. Hopefully they still make Bond full-blown gay or hint that he's a post-op Transexual that was originally assigned female at birth or something.

They really just need to give the franchise a rest for awhile. It's been running on fumes for years now and needs some time to breathe and get some new energy flowing for it. Toho has routinely taken a break from making Godzilla movies and that franchise continues to innovate and be fresh, while Bond feels so often like running away from its own identity and aping other action movies. Most of all I'd want them to return to the more light hearted, fantastical style of the Connery movies, but I feel like we need a good few years of silence to get back to that.

For people surprised at the non-woke casting, bear in mind, James Bond is the embodiment of British imperialism. You can't cast anyone but an upper/middle class white guy without it being thematically inconsistent, or at least without having to address it in the film. If they wanted to be Woke they'd cast a black or Asian actor and then have him be conflicted about the whole aspect of being a glowie for the British state, or feeling he's selling out or undermining "his people" or betraying other causes or whatever. Kind of like Mystery Road, or really any film with black police or spies in it. But then the wokelords would hate it because it was making a POC character look bad, and it wouldn't please anybody.


Been implied he's at least experimented a few times. Bond's a former public schoolboy and naval officer, it goes with the territory.

Finally some good news. It appears Barbara Broccoli isn't as retarded as she seems. I mean, apart from Casino Royale Craig's stint as bond has been pretty rubbish.

I forgot about Bronson too. I wonder if they'll ever make a film about his frenemy and my second favourite serial killer Robert Maudsley.
