Tom's excuse for not showering at his current place was that the shower is too small and it was unsafe because it had no grab rail or non-slip coating. There's no grab rail near the bath in the new place either, so Tom would need to pull a Yaniv and call emergency services to get him out. There's a photo on here of the bathtub at one of his old places, back in the days when he did occasionally bathe. Needless to say it was beyond disgusting.
