Welcome back, wolf pack

Verlisify is a furry YouTuber who's videos (and life) revolve around Pokemon, or more specifically, complaining about other people in the pokemon community. Verlisify, like many other lolcows, seems to have a specific list of actions that completely send him over the edge, yet partakes in many of these actions himself.

Click-bait

One of Verlis' more vocal personal vendettas is his crusade against click-bait. While most YouTubers either don't use clickbait and don't care, or use clickbait and don't care, Verlis seems to be an odd case of someone who is vehemently against click-bait to the point of aggravation, yet plasters it across all of his videos. In the (fairly recent) past, he actually made a video attacking someone for making a video on the new Pokemon games coming out in November. His reasoning for the attack is "the person used Pokemon in the title to many times to exploit YouTube's search algorithm and get more views". Which is ironic, as THE VIDEO ITSELF that he posted to complain is a generic, all-caps click-bait title.

The video:

He also made a tweet about how insulting Smogon (This will be explained later) "Prints Money".

"Cheating"

For those who don't play Pokemon, there is a very mild controversy in the Pokemon community of what should be considered cheating. In the game itself, each Pokemon has a slew of values that can effect their stats in battle, and while avoiding getting too technical, to get all of these values just right it can literally take weeks to breed or capture the perfect Pokemon for online or competitive play. To save a lot of time, people with lives generate perfect parent Pokemon to breed worthwhile Pokemon for battle in a matter of an hour or so. To put this into perspective, its like using a script to earn you a weapon in a first person shooter that everybody will just be using against you in multiplayer anyway. Despite the fact that most people who do this don't use it to use anything they couldn't use, Verlis hates generated pokemon, even to the point of attacking other YouTubers who openly gen them for other people's entertainment. His ego is actually big enough to the point where he has made videos crying about the world champions of the official Pokemon tournaments multiple times, despite the fact that the organizers didn't consider them to be cheating.

Videos of him complaining about people better at the game than him:

And, the most whiny:

"Unsportsman-like conduct"

Verlis feels that to play the game, everybody must conform to his version of the way that the game should be played. Whenever somebody can't win by knocking out their opponent's team, they might try to stay alive as long as they can, and when they do, Verlis cries "STALLER". He actually goes as far as ripping into extremely high level players because they won the game by stalling their opponents when there was nothing else that could be done.

Video:

Smogon

Smogon is a fan run competitive Pokemon site. The basis of Smogon is that since there are so many Pokemon (721 currently including dozens of alternate forms and well over a hundred more to come in the upcoming game), it might be hard to balance such a game with so much diversity. Smogon, based on statistics and use, divides the majority of commonly used Pokemon up into a tier list to allow less powerful ones to see more use in lower tiers. Its essentially extending the metagame to allow for more diversity and intelligent play, rather than people using the same 5 overpowered monsters over and over again. Despite the fact that Smogon isn't offical, and it is completely up to the player whatever rule set they want to use, Verlis has a stick up his ass about it, with the reasoning "Its not official". In fact, in late 2013 he was so "fired up" about it that he wore a poorly made fire Pokemon hoodie and whined about it on camera for ten minutes straight. Another important thing to note is that even within Smogon's ruleset there are no Pokemon that are banned outright; they are just moved a tier higher to prevent them from showing up everywhere in lower tiers. In a poorly made video uploaded in 2015, Verlis shares his (poorly formed) thoughts on Smogon moving a commonly used Pokemon a tier higher than it used to be. In the video, and its title, Verlis claims that Smogon "banned" this particular Pokemon, and states that "because you can counter it with specific Pokemon and movesets, it should not have been banned". The problem with this logic being that nobody wants nor can possibly have a counter for every overpowered Pokemon in the game as there are so many.

Video of him telling people to use ridiculous movesets and items to counter "banned" Pokemon:

Many may wonder why Verlis gets so up in arms about such trivial matters. The truth is, he feels like he is better than everybody, and when he gets outplayed in any area, whether that be at the game, or on youtube, he throws a tantrum and accuses whoever outdid him of not having any integrity. While he has stated in the past that he had a strategy that would win him the world championship, he struggled through an unofficial pax tournament getting a 0-4 win/lose ratio and claims that the only reason that he lost was that "his opponent stalled him". In fact, this ticked him off so much that he made a video crying about how a "corrupt judge" called the loss, and still references this moment in his videos to this day.

What really makes Verlis is that he cherry picks who can associate with him, and claims that the reason people hate him is "lies and rumors", both of which are shown in this Reddit post made by him here. He never learns from his mistakes and refuses to act rationally. He actually has had several embarrassing chimp-outs as a result of his shitty personality.

MY GIRLFRIEND BROKE UP WITH ME BECAUSE OF SMOGON

I honestly could waste my time explaining how stupid and eccentric of a claim this is, saying that he is avoiding admitting that he is a piece of shit that blames his problems on the world, but just watch this video.

Verlis Vs. Hoodlumscrafty

fHRFuve.jpg

An example of how seriously Hoodlumscrafty took Verlis after the drama went down

Hoodlumscrafty is an active member in the Pokemon community and makes videos ranging from gameplay commentary to custom formats that he and his friends mess around in. As of September 9th, 2016, both Verlisify and Hoodlumscrafty have about the same number of subscribers (~255k each). After years of Verlisify's toxicity, Hoodlum finally decided it was time to upload a video rising many concerns they had about Verlis and his behavior in mid 2016. They addressed the way he blocks anybody that disagrees with him, attacks other YouTuber's from having ads on their videos (even though he has ads as well), how he stole a custom format and artwork made by Hoodlum for his own use, how he doesn't cite people who give him strategies properly, how he frequently lies to his fans, and much more. Verlis responded by uploading yet another poorly thought out video accusing them of lying, and actually claims claims that him putting ads on his stolen content was not considered monetizing (happens around the 17 minute mark). This video goes on for 40 minutes. After his response video was bombed with a staggering amount of dislikes (currently at 100k views with 12k dislikes), Verlis uploaded an even longer video consisting of him barely defending his actions for an hour and 17 minutes.

Full video here, but it can pretty much be summed up by this:

Twitter Behavior

There are hundreds of terrible tweets made by Verlisify, however I'll keep it to some of his worst moments.

Like that time he refused to battle with a child dying of cancer (the fact that this is a mere footnote in this post should speak volumes of the kind of person he is)
PTwoQMB.png

...Or that time he told somebody to "drink base liquids", yet he has attacked other users for the same thing. His defense for saying "drink base liquids" was he meant "eggwhites". (Yes, seriosly, egg whites.)

There is yet more to cover, however I will have to finish that some time tomorrow, as I have important things to do.

Of course he's one of those guys who will make clickbait videos about various things that haven't even been released yet.
Then people believe him because 6 digit sub number

These are the kind of people that most normal people think of when they hear "hardcore gamer."

Crazy, demented psychos who feel the need to bitch about their games because it's not the way he wants them to be.

Evidently, the courtesies of sharing, mutual respect, and not giving a fuck about what some other people are doing with your hobby have been lost to time.

And lol, stalling is annoying but legit, if you don't have the wherewithal to plan your team around stalling strats, then you've earned that loss.

Go ahead and call me autistic but that's actually not how it works in most cases in an event like the world championships. (I'm not defending him though)

I don't want to say too much publicly but I've been involved with this guy's bullshit myself and I'll discuss it in PM if anyone cares.

Edit: I want to add that the "stalling" he mentions is not actually the same as a "stalling" strategy. They're not anything alike.
The kind of stalling he is complaining about is people taking the maximum amount of time possible for their moves when they are ahead and it's close to the end.
The other kind of stalling (like toxic stall) is actually something he tried to do at PAX but failed due to the timer.

The timer exists mostly so games don't take 2 hours but just because someone loses to timer doesn't mean that someone was using a "stall strategy" (those don't really exist in VGC format)

Here's a great example of how cringey and downright retarded this guy is.
In this video, he records himself playing against a random player online. The "gimmick" for this video is that Verlisify is wearing a blindfold during the battle.
Now, anyone who has played Pokemon online against another person is aware that sometimes people just put their DS down and walk away and do other shit. The game will still keep playing for you by selecting the first move in your slot after a certain period of time. This is obviously a young child (judging by their avatar and terrible moveset) who has put their DS down and isn't hitting any buttons, but Verlisify is too triggered by this person "timer stalling" to ever realize this. For the entirety of the 30 minute video. Even after he watches the entire video again to "recap" what just happened already a few minutes before. He is also triggered heavily because the opponent's Pokemon is shiny and must be "hacked". All of these Pokemon are available in their shiny form either through recent events or are available through a simple playthrough of the game.
Despite being a Poketuber he only has one or two videos of him actually playing Pokemon, but here's one. It's obvious why he doesn't upload more. He only manages to knock out one of his opponent's Pokemon the entire battle.

I see this dude all the time. I'm pretty sure he's the king of pokemon clickbait.

Also, I think he's the one who just stole footage of special events from the Sun and Moon demo from another person who activated them early, but I'm not sure and I don't feel like watching his videos to find out. Nevermind, that was someone making a joke about him. But he apparently has a reputation for that kind of stuff if people are joking about it.

"anyone who does something i don't like is a hacker" is what I'm getting from this

I knew it was going to be bad, but not THIS bad. A sick child asking him for something so simple and yet he actually said, "Go bother someone else"?. Fuck. Him.

I actually overlooked this detail in the OP and thought he was just blowing off some random player. This was a severely ill child who looked up to him?! That's downright sociopathic, to have such a lack of compassion! Who does this besides sociopaths?

I'm actually surprised he wasn't angry about championships. There were multiple shinies.

Doesn't he challenge the Pokemon company themselves over hacking and their own rules? I'm a little shocked that he didn't comment on that.

holy shit him being triggered by a fucking shiny is the most hilarious thing i've seen all day. even if it's hacked, shiny hunting/breeding is one of the simplest things to do post-game now. we don't have to deal with the 1 in 8000-something chances anymore; with the proper methods we're talking anywhere between 1 in 200 and 1 in 500. iirc it takes about roughly an hour or two usually on average in ORAS if you're hunting in the wild, and it's something you don't have to think too hard about. a lot of people do it when they're bored and just want to keep their hands busy.

how did he take the news that IV training is gonna be an official thing in Sun/Moon? is he gonna consider that cheating too? i remember some competitive spastics being butthurt when it was first revealed so i wouldn't be surprised.

Only video i've seen from this guy was this one where he complains about the new pokemon hyper training that lets you train IV's too and just cause someone on gamefaqs mentioned it. (notice the +5500 dislikes)

tl;dr: He rants and rants about how hyper training is the worst thing ever and how it will make cheating easier and how this "breeding isn't supposed to be 'free', it's supposed to be hard and competitive". Which is complete bullshit since Pokemon is 95% made for casual players, their first priority is to make the game more acessible as possible. Overall he acts like a whiny elitist asshole but now that i know he is a terrible player he looks like a sad and pathetic hipocrite.

Wasn't there a mechanic similar to the newest one in Sun and Moon? Super training in ORAS where you can train your Pokemon and get items? If it's in game, it's not cheating or wrong. That's like saying it's cheating to use flame body when egg hatching because it makes egg hatching fast.

I'm more annoyed by the click bait that he has. It's rather hypocritical to hate on TyranitaurTube (or something) for click bait when you do it yourself. He's leading the viewer on, especially with the ideas he has that might be in Sun and Moon. (Kanto speculation)

I'm someone who has dabbled in competitive pokemon and I can tell you that Hyper training is a good thing in the sense that the time needed to acquire and breed the perfect pokemon for competitive play is absurd seeing how it is victim to layers upon layers of RNG. The entire reason Pokegen is used and not frowned down upon is because no competitive community can thrive if the barrier to entry is a massive RNG wall. By adding the ability to improve IV's for the mons it allows more people to be competitive ready and focus on developing builds than wading through the sheer amount of aborted dumpster baby mons because they had a bit value for a stat be 11111110 instead of 11111111.

This guy seems to know he sucks or is at least so cognitively dissonant that he needs to have some kind of moral victory over people

In the words of DSP: "Be an honorable fucking player and learn to play the fucking game"

ORAS super training increases the EVs (effort values you get by beating other pokemon), Sun and Moon Hyper training increases IV (internal values that can't be changed but can be manipulated with breeding) but only if your pokemon is level 100 and you have a "bottlecap" item.

He thinks it increases cheating because "Cheaters will keep cheating and nobody will be able to tell if their perfect team was hacked because anyone can create a perfect iv team now!"Regardless if that logic is valid or not, i think he is so mad because he knows this affects HIM more than anyone. Since it will be so easy to get a perfect team, he can't simply call other players hackers just because they have a perfect IV team. Hell, i'm sure many casual player will bring their previously IV screwed shinies for battle now, it's like his worst nightmare.

And yeah, how the fuck can this guy complain about clickbait when ALL of his videos have some kind of clickbait? Just a quick glance on his list and i see is a bunch of ALL CAPS vague questions, speculations and fake leaks, top 10, giant arrows pointing at a red circle that means nothing etc.
