Torrenting Games

i have given up on it since most new stuff cant be installed on my game harddive and the last game i succeeded on pirating (metro exodus) almost destroyed my pc with a virus and killed my last harddrive. i have a job now so i just buy my stuff if the price is right.

I usually torrent shit to give it a try, if I like it I'll buy the game later and if I don't I didn't spend a lot of money on worthless trash.

Doesn't really feel necessary since Steam added the refund feature. They pretty reliably do it.

Nowdays torrenting is hard to justify, there is no shortage of great games with bargain bin prices to play. Even the brand new games will usually have their prices cut in the few months (unless it's Nintendo).

Eeeh..hmmm...Honestly, I mostly torrent games you cannot really attain in either GoG/Steam. Since even buying the disc version, there's a 50% chance it not working on a modern-day PC, plus some disc versions sometimes go out for insane prices due to being rare (like MGS2 for PC, Cryostasis some others)

New games have $5-10 price cuts immediately. Walmart does this every time there's a new release. You can get AC:NH or Doom Eternal right now for ~$55. You might even get the new Cooking Mama for the Switch in a few days for $35.

Edit to add: Torrenting is justifiable. There's plenty of reasons in just two pages. Hell, one reason is enough. Greedy corporations with shitty business tactics? Not giving them a single cent. Hard to find games that can only be found on a torrent? Sure. DRM bogging down your PC? Just wait for a crack. It's not just games either. Foreign TV shows paywalled behind an equally foreign website? Can't find it on Youtube? I could go on.

That being said, most people who torrent aren't torrenting everything on sight. It's situational. My last two torrents were quite literally a year apart, for the same game (Sims 4). Got caught the second time, got an email warning me about repeat offenses and stopped doing it. I was done anyway because I've got the game I wanted and it's up to date. Couldn't be happier. Fuck EA by the way.

The only justifiable one is having the games not being able to physically purchase anymore (like for out of print games where the only possible way of getting them is paying scalpers). You can still buy the game and play the cracked version with no DRM. And the "Greedy corporations with shitty business tactics" is simply retarded, there are still people who worked hard on making the game good, screwing them over and risking shutting them down while trying to portray yourself as "fighting the system" is ridiculous. You don't want to pay them? That's fine, just don't try to act like some moral good for downloading a torrent.

I sold a shit ton of stuff I got for free in Dota 2 (back in the days when item drops were a thing) for a decent amount of money, so I've been using that to buy games. It's pretty convenient, since it updates my games in the background, so most of the time I don't have to wait for an update to download before playing.

I've only torrented 2 games. Wrath of the Lich King because I needed it for a private server after retail had moved on but I owned the discs and the first American McGee's Alice game because it is impossible to get on PC from any official publisher and I didn't give enough of a damn to pay $150+ for a physical copy of a 20 year old abandonware game.

1. Torrenting is only fine for out of print games: Wrong. Also good for downloading banned literature that can't be found if you have an exceptional internet under a regime (e.g. China or some shit).

2. Buying the game and playing the cracked version: Fine.

3. "Fighting the system": LMAO nobody is fighting shit. Employees at EA still get paid. They're a multi-million dollar corporation and the number of torrenters does not even come CLOSE to outweighing the vast number of people who buy the game legitimately. Nothing is being shut down and you're fucking stupid for entertaining the thought.

Nobody is doing any bullshit "moral good" by torrenting by the way, but I'm not gonna support the stupid shit they do. TS2 and their expansions were worth it. $400 worth of expansions for TS3 is not worth it. $20 for a Murphy Bed that kills you in TS4? Get the fuck outta here.
