You know, I'm just going to admit that one of the problems I think this thread is going to have is, well, content. I mean after you acknowledge that, yes, the Touhou fandom is as crazy as a parrot on amphetamines and posted the obligatory 'hey, look at this crazy porn' links, what else is there? Honestly, as somebody who has had to trawl anime image repositories before, I'm absolutely 100% desensitized to this kind of content. Saying that there's Touhou porn of literally every fetish imaginable is as redundant as saying that there is porn in general of literally every fetish imaginable. It just feels like an excuse to show off obscene material for the sake of doing so.

Basically, as I said in the now-dead Minecraft thread; I'd like to see some genuinely interesting chimp-out material.
It seems unlikely since the worst offenders are likely to be weeaboo NEETs with no shame, it'd be interesting to hear more about:
Underneath the nice music remixes and numerous memes there are stories of older guys tricking younger fans into cybering, online relationships between 13-14 year olds and 24-25 year olds, crazy weebs, and fetishists.
Kind of thing.

I think one of the problems here is that when you start dealing with anime perversity, you realize that it's a legitimate industry. I'm not joking. There are 100% professional artists out there who churn out industry-quality Touhou porn to a paying audience. It's actually kind of hard to find any major examples of gibbering insanity in a scene where all this is treated as absolutely normal and par-for-the-course.

How about the community itself? How does it deal with porn and deviancy? Is it accepted? Something that is encouraged? Is it something that has created a schism in the community? In large communities like these there are usually different schools of thought. I hate to put you on the spot, but as one of the resident touhou experts, could you elaborate on the community itself?
The porn is a running joke. It's not really accepted, encouraged, discouraged, or anything. There's just a small, but very crazy part of the fandom that draws a shit ton of porn. Go to literally any video that tries to talk about Touhou and they'll usually mention four things:

1) The music is amazing.
2) The official artwork is terrible.
3) The games are difficult as shit.
4) Mountains and mountains of porn.

This is why I thought this topic would be quite niche. The community is much like a lot of other dedicated animu fandoms out there like the Madoka fandom, the Gundam fandom, etc., where people are mainly just organizing conventions, showing off cosplays, and the like. The only way that Touhou goes slightly above that is that there's a crazy amount of people who make and sell Touhou "merchandise" that the creator is completely cool with (as he's only DMCA'd stuff that were actual ports of the games, and any derivative stuff he lets people make and sell). There's arranges of the OSTs for metal, techno, J-Pop, Eurobeat, fucking COUNTRY, and there's shit like Touhouvania, Touhoumon, and New Super Marisa Land. I mean, it's kinda autistic that people take a game with a bunch of girls with diapers on their heads shooting balls of light at each other and made it into what I'm hard pressed to not call its own genre, but honestly I'm just impressed by the whole thing. There's no real chimpouts or anything, and the most that you do have are crazy head canons and shipping and all of that stuff, and that's not really a Touhou thing. That's just a weeb thing.

As someone who listens to the game's music and has been around some touhou fans I can confirm this. A big chunk of the community are lolicons (guys obsessed with anime and manga of 10-15 year old girls usually in suggestive or sexualized situations). Underneath the nice music remixes and numerous memes there are stories of older guys tricking younger fans into cybering, online relationships between 13-14 year olds and 24-25 year olds, crazy weebs, and fetishists.

In fact one of the memes, the "Yukkuri Shite" has a torture porn culture attached to it.

I think even the creator, ZUN, came out at some point and denounced the rampant sexualization of the series.

When I read these two posts, I think that this is a good example of how our experiences shape our perception of the community. I'd be interested in finding out how it is that the fans with generally good intentions police the community to keep the people that King talks about out or at least stops them from having a voice.

So they draw lots of porn so what? Maybe I've become jaded by the literal shit eaters and the 300+ pound pedophiles on this forum but drawing animu porn just isn't that shocking to me.

I don't think it is the porn aspect that can draw attention, it is that the girls are supposed to be 12-16 years old. At the end of the day, if that's all it was then this thread should never come to pass, but with any engaged fandom, you will run into people on the fringe with different values than those in the core.

From my own knowledge of the fandom, it's one of those communities where the source canon is largely (with the creator's general blessing) left up to the fans, which has the unfortunate side effect of allowing the bar of the fandom to reach some f'ed up lows.

The porn shit thus is not surprising at all. R34 exists in every fandom, just the barriers to entry of the Touhou fandom are so low in general there is no real barrier for almost anything, since the games largely turn the characters into ciphers, leaving the fandom to fill in the lore themselves with whatever they want.

Compare to something like the Doom modding community, which is largely in the hands of modders, also with the creator's generally lax sanction, though the difference here is that there is some sort of general consensus on best practices and quality control, and the R34 stuff is universally pissed on unless it's REALLY GOOD, and it's so opposed to the general fandom core only the fringe types really care, and the general fandom assigns them bored disdain and disinterest at best.

ACTUALLY I THINK YOU WILL FIND THEY ARE 10,000 YEARS OLD they just happen to look 12.

But seriously though I think the people with specific fetishes just segment from the mainstream community into smaller niche groups rather than abandon their fetishes altogether, so while someone might keep a specific porn out of one place there are likely other places on the internet dedicated to it so they're not really stopping undesirable elements.

You trying to tell me that the porn portion of the fandom is small? Searching up Touhou porn on pixiv currently throws up 126,939 results - which is, yes, still a minority when the non-porn section is over ten times as large, but it both comprises a significant portion of hentai in general and represents a much higher porn-to-nonporn ratio than most other popular franchises. Let's not go and throw that under the couch while the Kiwis come to visit.

Touhou pretty much singlehandedly popularized the "but she's really 500 years old" trope. The fact that all the underage-looking characters either conveniently don't have a mentioned age or are actually much older than they look made it a lot easier for people to muddy up the waters in regards to fapping to little girls.

I've personally tried to avoid the bulk of the Touhou community after seeing the autism it had to offer, as well as just generally not being interested in the weird lesbian fetishism or discussing obvious throwaway/joke plots like they're Tolkien. My sister, though? A fan of the games and a cosplayer? Yeah, not so lucky. Virtually every single Touhou event she's ever gone to has ended up attracting an overwhelming amount of older male nerds - hygiene not guaranteed - who dress up as little girls, or even, God forbid, bring waifu body pillows straight into the event. To put this in some context - the only fandom I can think of off the top of my head that is so overwhelmingly dominated with creepy crossplayers is DMMD, and that's a gay porn game. There's even country-wide legends of a dude who chases underage Touhou cosplayers and brings them back into his hotel for "photoshoots", though I can't confirm that personally, thank the lord.

I also personally know a dude who's a regular poster on one of those Touhou sites and rabid waifu-lover who showed his dick to a thirteen-year-old girl, but I couldn't say anything much more about that one without self-doxxing.

What's the site and the name of the poster?

Edit:
I mean I'm guessing you wouldn't be upset about outing a pedophile?

This shit, yukkuri abuse, was basically the "inspiration" for fluffy pony abuse, which also has a thread here.

Like fluffies, yukkuris started out at least supposedly cute, although these evil looking disembodied heads are more creepy than anything.

Most of the insane porn people are Japanese and not much has been appropriated relatively speaking. I couldn't care much about the porn in particular. A lot of the art is just non-porn art. One thing that is disproportional about the art is that much of it is in a medium other than shitty drawings and fanfiction, as in games and music. A lot of the fandom is people with actual skills.

I would avoid anyone with a Flandre Scarlet avatar still. They're likely a lolicon with no redeeming qualities.

I kinda went back and forth on this one, really. The thing is, he's really tame in public, and the juicier bits are on a computer I don't have anymore, so I'm not sure if it would be worth the risk of looking like I'm making shit up and/or him or his friends harassing me.

...But if you find a congoer who really likes Koishi, you should stay away.

Well fair enough but it's possible he's doing even worse stuff you don't know about.

I wonder how prevalent that is in communities like this. Grown adults playing games featuring female characters where almost all fanart is sexualized to some extent screams out to me pedo to some extent, whether it be emotional, physical, etc. is common.

It's probably better to just post a URL to the page it's on.
It worked for a while as a spoiler, so yeah.

We're doing a thread on this? I honestly think it'll be a bit niche, but eh, we got shit on diaperfurs.

Reminds me of the mashup crowd which has a thread somewhere here...

Everything has a precursor, and I feel like the Touhou community predicted the Brony community. Both have a large community of remixes and fan art, both have an unscrupulous amount of pr0n, both have a large amount of fan-games and consist of weebs. Maybe there will be an even more autistic fandom in the future.

I can't hate on this community much - mostly because the music (from the actual games - just about all of them.) is actually amazing - unlike whatever stuff bronies dare put together and call art. But yeah, the issues with CP from this community (plus the heavy weeb attraction) are something to be weary of, regardless.
