The only train that is actually cool and not autistic:

The Krajina Express (Serbian: Крајина Eкспрес) was an improvised armored train used by the Krajina Serb army during the Croatian War of Independence and the Bosnian War, from 1991 to 1995. The main battle in which the train became involved was the siege of siege of Bihać. The train's crew also performed in combat in the role of infantry.

The two-wagon train was originally armed with a WWII German 20mm gun and two 9K11 Malyutka missile launchers; a Bofors 40mm gun was added later. A pair of M-53 7.9mm light machine guns were mounted to defend the blind spots. The 40mm cannon was removed in 1992 and replaced by a Soviet-designed 76mm gun mounted on the rear wagon. The convoy was enlarged with a third wagon mounting two 20mm cannons. Two Zastava M84 machine guns and a twin 57mm multiple rocket were also added in 1992. The following year marked the definitive configuration of the armored train, when the 76mm gun was supplanted by an American M18 Hellcat tank destroyer. There was an open wagon with two 120mm mortars, but their operational use was limited. The end of the war in Croatia frustrated plans of mounting an 88mm flak gun.

The sandbags which provided the first shield to the wagons were replaced by a 25mm thick armor plate. The roofs remained open and were covered with tarpaulins. On the sides the wagons were wrapped in canvas and rubber sheets, the in between space filled with gravel. This improvised laminated protection proved effective in combat when it dissipated the blast of an antitank missile.

During the siege of Bihać three additional wagons were hooked ahead of the formation, in order to trigger any mines planted on the railway. One of the wagons carried tools and materials for railroad repairs if needed.

After playing Railroad Tycoon 3 in my childhood, I have decided that being a train autist might be in my future. It goes with the Lego and Minecraft autism.

Bonus video (this video is very difficult to search for for some reason)

Class 50 diesel 50033 winter startup. Might need to spill an ocean of Adblue into it to clean it a little, if I was a homo environmentalist.

Youtube recommended me some diesel videos after I watched a bunch of videos on mining and construction equipment. Smart algorithm

Here is the full list of trains from RRT3, maybe some of you can recognize them. I tried looking them up and some are famous but some are generic.

I just started playing this again after finding a modern port to relive my autistic childhood...turns out the game is much more of an insider trading sim than a train sim

Yes, like short your competitors and then absolutely demolish them, including having them use your track and pay you fees for it (don't remember if this actually generates a lot of money or not). This is aside from arbitrage scenarios of simultaneously owning the production, transportation, and endpoint of a resource, for example owning a lumber mill, train route, and paper mill. I believe Standard Oil and other monopolies did such "vertical integration". One great trick I picked up on my own is that many industries like lumber mills are vastly undervalued at the start of the scenario, as iirc the price to purchase industries is based on the average of past 3 years of revenue.

I would love to see a modern version of RRT; Cities Skylines is more of a pretty city builder than transportation game and I haven't looked into Transport Tycoon yet. RRT3 also has a funny bug that community users have patched where if your graphics card has too much memory than it defaults to the lowest graphics.

Here are game charts in higher resolution from H&B forums. I love autistic stuff like this.

If you look carefully around your world, clever engineering is everywhere

brilliant in its simplicity

Prepare yourselves. This thread will attract Bri'ish autists like flies to honey.

I've always wanted to build a miniature steam locomotive but never had the room to run it. May finally get to now. I've always thought the engineering behind the tiny thing was interesting.

I found this channel interesting. I'm not fully a train person, but there are some interesting things about them from a engineering standpoint
