I was visiting my mother a few years ago when Jan/James Morris came on TV. I'd read his book on Venice (second hand copy, credited as James) and heard about him trooning out long before I ever saw a picture of him in women's clothes, and I'd always thought that he passed OK-ish, mostly by being old and a bit of a crone. That makes sense. Anecdotally, women are way better at clocking troons than men. I've seen dudes get "tricked" by trans women/say troons like Blaire White, Bailey Jay, etc. pass well, whereas women tend to notice something is "off." Amusingly I've seen troons pick apart cis women and say they don't pass, saying they end up clocking cis women, etc. By contrast even with very masc women it's usually still possible to tell they're women (this goes for ftms too - the trouble comes with beards and gymrat ftms) whereas with troons you can always tell they're men. I've legit never seen a passing troon, even the ones who have good pics or doctor their pics don't pass in videos or in person. It's a mystery to me that they all parrot the meme that there are passing transwomen

Yeah, that. Save for those who were already full-on traps before starting transition, most don't really register as anything other than ugly women at a glance. Sure, you'd be able to clock them if you had more time to stare at them, but when walking down the street being an ugly woman instead of a man-in-a-dress is good enough for most of them.
