BIID long predates tumblr. I recall learning about it in college, and seeing it recorded happening in older history. It's a real, very rare thing.

Combine with the near universality of tumblards being pathological liars, though, and the likelihood of any claim made on tumblr actually being true approaches zero.
 
Honestly as far as people who legitimately feel like they're a one handed man in a two handed man's body or something stupid like that I can't really hate too much. I mean its their body, if they wanna cut off their pinky toe or live their lives in a wheelchair whatever its their life. So long as they aren't acting like an entitled jackass about it and don't start going full on tumblr bitching about "health privilege" or something ridiculous I can't really care. This is coming from a transfag btw just for a bit of perspective I guess.

Of course this is tumblr so everyone is full of shit but that goes without saying.

I thought this sounded familiar. Then I remembered National Geographic's show "Taboo" did an episode that focused on it a few years back.

This is an episode from January 2010. I don't know how legit this show really was, I just tuned in from time to time.
Can't remember if the video's graphic or not, so be forewarned.
This is the full episode if anyone cares. Its focus is "Misfits".
(I don't feel like watching the video and the episode over again, so I don't know how much they overlap)
 
The term "devotee" is used for people who have fetishes for amputee people and also try hard to act like an amputee although they're not physically handicapped in any way. I remember a tumblr blog on this, an amputee woman was doxxing people who were devotees but acting like they're actually handicapped to try and satisfy their sexual urges. Unfortunately I don't remember the title of the blog, if any of you do, do tell me. Scrolling through that blog was one of the most traumatising internet experiences for me because the amount of effort those devotees put into acting like handicapped people was astonishing. They would buy thousand dollars worth of amputee chairs, accessories and whatnot. There were also lots of blogs dedicated to beautiful amputee women or photoshopped versions of non-amputee women (their arms or legs would be shopped so they'd look like they had stumps). I also remember an ask that was sent to this doxxer woman, a guy was crying for help for his amputee fetish because it was affecting his life so much so that it was all he ever thought about on the daily, he couldn't function as a normal person and no longer got satisfied in bed with a physically healthy woman.

I wish I still had the url. Definitely gonna add here if I find it.

It's a fetish for all kinds of disability but some devotees have specific turn ons, like somebody might think amputees are sexy and somebody else thinks people in wheelchairs are sexy etc. It's kinda fucked up. You get sickos who go to therapy clinics and masturbate in their cars as they watch people transfer into vehicles and stuff.

Holy shit, do I remember that. It was almost like she was getting paid by Dorrance to advertise or something. Anyone know if she succeeded in her quest?
