Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

I sometimes get Transformers animated fan stuff. Can't say I'm a fan of the stop motion stuff recommended to me though. 98% of the stuff looks like shit.
An oldy but a goody
I remember when it first came out. I was using Rhino at the time so I took an interest in this sort of stuff.

I never liked Japanese Transformers. They always wanted to put unnecessary comedy into it. Today I'm more interested in the engineering that goes into making the figures than the character themselves or the cartoons. Though I did enjoy Prime as that was a little more mature than most other Transformer shows. I wasn't a fan of the human/ Autobot relationships. They even made it seem like the kids wanted to either date them later in life or they were surrogate parent figures.

Weird unnecessary comedy is like one of the main reasons Transformers TV stuff is remembered fondly. Like even back before the JP side took over for the 2000s The American guys were just putting in shit like this.

Some of the funniest g1 shit is the time Megatron, now Galvatron, had a running sideplot where He literally got mild brain damage from Energizing plasma on the random planet he crashed into after the movie seeping into his head wounds. It was used mainly for him occasionally being fucking weird but eventually it led to an entire fucking episode where he was sent to a space therapy center and literally none of their methods work because He's fucking Galvatron and with or without brain damage Galvatron is Megatron, a guy who is not going to put up with any of your shit because he just wants to see the Autobots fucking beaten.
EDIT: I just realized how fucked the scaling is in the therapy thing because the therapist guys are clearly supposed to be like normal human sized monkey people but like every other shot they're the same height as Cyclonus. Well maybe not really "just realized" but it's something you don't really think about.

If you go through any Japanese Transformers media it's all comedy. They didn't want the series to be serious. Now that could be because they had Gundam (and lesser extent Gunbuster for the fan service. Also, the creator of Gundam hated anime as he wanted to direct movies) for that but not all anime back then needed to be a comedy. Their more serious stuff was more widely acclaimed and would have probably kept weebs away. It doesn't need to be Silver Fang, but all of the jokes had to go.

By the way, if you watch the whole episode of Webworld you'll see that Torkuli's aren't supposed to be same size as a human. Season 3 is on Youtube, free to view.
I bet you also think the aliens in the Gambler episode where they introduce Devcon were all supposed to be human size too.

It's been a while since I saw the full episode so I'll take your word on that for now, but my point was the scale was ridiculously inconsistent even if they're supposed to be bigger than humans. There's a shot where the sweeps are the height of Galvatron's calfs in that video compilation I linked.

Siege Jetfire and the Shattered Glass Optimus and Ratchet two pack are being rereleased and are up for preorder right now.
From what I've heard and kinda seen secondhand, siege jetfire is like one of the definitive jetfires. Also one of the only real "commander" sized commander classes, but also has the yellowing shoulders on the default release and the default asking price is out of my normal price range. Kinda wish I managed to get enough for the black version before it was sold out but I also was hoping it'd go on discount at some point.

Shattered Glass Optimus and Ratchet, and Jetfire are getting reissued. Good time to get them if you missed the the first time around or need to customize something. I mainly need a few more Ratchet/ Ironhides and another Jetfire for customs.
TFSource has Swoop up for preorder so picked up one currently for my son and going to see if any store here is bringing one in before getting one from the internet. Ginrai and Super Ginrai will cost $469usd
The Super Ginrai one is 299.99 and will come with the anime colour scheme so you can just get that and have everything I think. Ginrai is $169.99 and has more toy colour scheme to it and just comes with two extra blast effects but otherwise comes with the same guns as Super.

Regular Ginrai also comes with a "toy accurate" sticker sheet for use with Super Ginrai. But I'm sure Toyhax will come out with their own version eventually.

Nearly 500 dollars for Ginrai? Nightmare pricing, probably priced like that as the "last masterpiece" to initiate FOMO sales. Hook me up with something like a used Titans return Magnus Prime/legends Ginrai with the inner robot upgrade kit that was going around a few years back for $60-$70 as a whole package and we'll talk. If anythingthis is making it hurt worse for me I didn't get those and godbomber when they were available on discount online for like $30 each due to wanting to save for some other shit.

Speaking of deals though, I got 3 of those "sparkless seekers" coming in the mail for like the collective price of $40. Might modify them to be either unnoficial remakes of stuff that hasn't got one recently or one of the many nameless background G1 cartoon ones with wacked out color schemes.
Also might just keep them mostly default because 3 green/dark orange dudes and 6 tiny green/grey guys that turn into guns is cool on it's own.

that's only if you want a cartoon accurate colour scheme and a toy Ginrai. $300usd is okay for just God Ginrai. Here' it's $414.50 plus 13% taxes, shipping, and customs. So for us it's well over $500. When they eventually do Godbomber (and they will) It'll be close to $800 total here. That's a Power Baser V2, God Armour, and Double Evil with money to spare for the Junior Headmasters like Kap and Ace Hitter (because I had them as a kid). I'd probably have some cash left over for a pizza.

The light purple drones we always seen in the early days of the cartoon? Those are decent army builders to paint up in a better colour scheme. The bright coloured ones are known as Rainmakers to older fans since the cartoon never gave them names.

Nah, the "light purple" one already has an "official release" in the buzzworthy troop builder pack I only got one of, and the actual plastic on it is more of a blue closer to thundercracker while not quite being him. Might modify one of the discounted seekers I got into a more accurate one though at some point. I got the 3 pack of the rainmakers a few years ago when they made them as well, but my nova storm he's uh... got some weird mold looking stain on his leg that's been there ever since I got him and I've kinda kept him in a bag solely due to being skeeved out by it.
The ones I'm talking about are the generic background Decepticons that appear like once or twice. The rainmakers fall into that category but once again officially released. There's some funky recolors like the twin green shockwaves I'm surprised haven't had an official release with how much they keep going deeper into obscure character releases but I've also never seen a custom of them like I have seen some of the background seekers.

These are the guys I'm talking about. I think there's technically more than just these 8 but I can't find the larger image anymore.

Might be a good idea to use metallic paint for the cockpits because I don't think the cloudy dark orange used with the green "sparkless seeker" will translate the clear detail through well.

Speaking of weird one off background characters upon rewatching the Junkion planet scene int he 86 movie I noticed for like a brief bit in one of the zoomed out shots where they're dancing there's like 2 or 3 female junkions that seem to have unique designs that are just barely able to be made out due to how small scale the characters are. They seem to be like a weird hybrid of arcee and generic background junkion in terms of like character design Which is kind of funny considering how many Arcees turn into motorcycles now. if hasbro/takara ever released a figure they'd probably just use the fucking legacy prime Arcee again but in brown instead of making a voyager scale figure to scale with the other junkions they've put out.

I painted one like the black gold Classics seeker that was a KO. looks rather nice if you can find a good metalic gold. Gaia 122 Star Bright Gold was good for that.

I feel validated that someone else noticed how goofy the timing of the theme song is.
Yeah,it's almost as if that's an intentional choice to make it stand out from other tv show themes? Or just cause they thought it sounded better that way?
I remember this being a weird suddenYT video music person trend a while back and it kinda bothered me more than the unique timing of the OG theme.
I watched a bit of the vid and it's like the dudes weirdly playing up how "WEIRDD" and"BAD/AWKWAAAARD" it is while also attempting to appear smart and casual in that specific kind of way that every fucking video essayist does.

It gets even more weird with the timing but of the full song with the season 3 theme. Shit's still really cool.
I kinda wish there were more HD /cd audio quality audio uploads of this one. Over 10 years ago there used to be but i guess they got taken down with no topic channel replacements showing up? Closest ones I can find are "ai enhanced" ones that are kinda muddy or blurry in the visuals and have the same lower quality audio.
