Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

Yeah,it's almost as if that's an intentional choice to make it stand out from other tv show themes? Or just cause they thought it sounded better that way?
I remember this being a weird suddenYT video music person trend a while back and it kinda bothered me more than the unique timing of the OG theme.
I watched a bit of the vid and it's like the dudes weirdly playing up how "WEIRDD" and"BAD/AWKWAAAARD" it is while also attempting to appear smart and casual in that specific kind of way that every fucking video essayist does.

It gets even more weird with the timing but of the full song with the season 3 theme. Shit's still really cool.
I kinda wish there were more HD /cd audio quality audio uploads of this one. Over 10 years ago there used to be but i guess they got taken down with no topic channel replacements showing up? Closest ones I can find are "ai enhanced" ones that are kinda muddy or blurry in the visuals and have the same lower quality audio.
I think they wanted it to sound kind of alien and mechanical, and then the circle of fifths part (which is used all over the place in the show) is a pretty dramatic sounding progression, so it adds that serious weight the show was going for (very similar to G.I. Joe in that regard). The composers had quite a résumé. It’s clearly intentional.

I've always thought it was just bad editing on their part and didn't have the money to fix such a minor problem. Cartoons back than had so little money to fix anything because the budget went to the the commercials and toys.

Looks like the Official Hasbro spelling is Jinrai now?
I'm OK with that. I have no idea where the Ginrai spelling came from or why it stuck.
Probably some intern with Street Fighter on the mind. It's always been with a G.

Not talking about the improper loop in the credits but the part that's in both the credits and opening where the tempo shifts a little when the "autobots wage their battle to" bit. If both the main version with a vocalist and the version in the credits where the lines are replaced with an instrument have the same bit in them it's 100% intentional and not an editing error.
What's ACTUALLY weird-ish though a lot of people have probably brought up is the theme is one of those themes where it doesn't rhyme like a normal song. One of those "has the same flow as rhyming and similar-ish sounds in the words without actually rhyming" kinds of deals you see in musicals sometimes.

The first time I heard the song it was as a toy jingle. I was shocked and amused that the actual show used the jingle for the theme song too. Hasbro/Marvel/Sunbow shows always did this, but most other companies did not. (He-Man and GoBots for example)

Gi joe specifically is kind of crazy because they add extra jingles and song shit on top of the main theme in the ads. Kinda sometimes wonder if there's "full song" variants of shit like the Serpentor or Zartan jingle themes.
Also speaking of Gi joe there was a lot of weird intertwining of the original Gi joe and Transformers stuff. I mean it's obvious considering same company and Marvel being partly responsible for the lore but like there's some funky stuff like how the Gi joe Movie got fucked out of release in theaters cause of what went down with the Transformers one, and also being censored last minute so no main characters die when they were blatantly intended to leading to funny shit like Duke getting impaled through the fucking heart and them going "oh... he's gone into a coma..." in a clearly dubbed over line. All cause kids were freaked out over Optimus being potentially perma-dead and parents complaining lmao.

Not in the budget back than. 90's cartoons could have full songs for stuff or even see a full OST, but that's due to more budget could be put into the cartoon than they did in the 80's because they couldn't use it as a launching pad to sell toys. They could even try gimmicks like with Bots Master.

This Magic Square Grimlock has been pretty good makes for a good G1 cartoon Grimlock while New Age is better for comic appearance. MS is nice and thick while NA is slimmer.

Speaking of weird one off background characters upon rewatching the Junkion planet scene int he 86 movie I noticed for like a brief bit in one of the zoomed out shots where they're dancing there's like 2 or 3 female junkions that seem to have unique designs that are just barely able to be made out due to how small scale the characters are.
you might need to think WAY outside the box to figure out their parts given other background bots like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, they're made out of chunks of various Mobile Suits from Zeta Gundam

Did Filmation outsource to Japan for Bravestarr?
No, Filmation was very proud of never outsourcing, but it was filled with weebs.
Did you mean the Brave series? It was originally made by Gundam animators so they would reuse a lot designs.
No, I don't think the Brave series used any Gundam designs -- just Transformers and previous Brave designs.

EDIT: This show was actually Blackstar, which was also Filmation so the point about outsourcing still stands.

Kunio Okawara was the designer for all the robots the company made. It's why there's so many design cues taken for all their series such as the shoulder pads and head designs.

There's a lot of cool weird background shit like that in animation stuff from before they stopped using cels.
