Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

G1 is good, but gets real goofy as shit in parts. Can definitely recommend Transformers Prime. Prime is good shit. Animated is fun, but kind of mid at points. The designs were cool though. Robots in Disguise (RiD or Car Robots in Japan) was a fun ride, and SEVERLY underrated.
Ill probably check out prime because its way removed from anything I've ever seen and it seems to be popular. I think RiD is the one I was super into as a kid. I watched some YouTube clips and that's generally what pops into my head when I think of "my" transformers growing up. I saw the next show or two after it sometimes when they were on but I was moved on to other things by that point and I think it was because I couldn't make heads or tails out of if any of it was related at all to the prior stuff.

now obviously I wouldn't give a shit but I had the same issue around that time in the early 00s with anime series we got too. I watched Gundam and then when the next show was a total reboot (or might have been when they played the original show) I didn't quite get it and was like ah fuck this I'm 8 I don't give a god damn ill watch something else. lol

I was clicking around on that TF wiki today since I have been reading this thread and on the note of continuity it's absolutely insane the Japanese version of the franchise tried to be one solid continuity as long as it did with as many exclusive and flat out incompatible shows and stories they got.

personally I think the best course of action for this type of franchise (toy commercial) is continue continuity in comics or one off short movies or something for older fans but just reboot (or soft reboot) every next tv cycle so the next round of children are locked in and get it and the ones who grew up with it still have stuff to check out. It seems like that's essentially what they've done the last 20 years and seems better than the continuity clusterfuck the japs had going on from after the movie until the mid 2000s

New fan video
I instantly recognized the username as the guys that did the redub shitposts YEARS before literally every other Youtube channel started doing them. The animation here seems a bit more slow or off timing than the prior original animations they did years ago. Apperently those redubs aren't on this channel looking at it but there's stuff from over a decade back that shows what I mean in terms of the new stuff beingweirdly slower/off in terms of audio sync.
Forgot they did official convention promos for a bit too. It's weird because you can track the animation models getting better but the animation getting jankier the more recent each video is. Starts off with basic models and mildly janky animation, gets up to pretty decent-ish quality models with some mild uncanny details and lighting and VERY SLOW/STIFF shit.

there's the UK comics too
Yeah some of the G1 marvel comics issues are/were exclusive to the UK which just adds to the G1 clusterfuckery.

EDIT: There's also the fact the comic had a good number of crossovers with other shit Marvel had the rights to at the time so you got shit like spiderman, gi joe, and doctor who showing up, technically making all of this part of the greater "Marvel comics universe" of the time. Fucking SPIDERMAN is technically a g1 transformers character. IIRC in re-releases of the comic issue they black out Spiderman on the cover.

also brings us our favorite Freelance Peacekeeping Agent, yes?
I forgot that guy was a character that showed up in the UK only issues rather than just in general, probably because the bits of Marvel transformers comics I read back in the day were like scans on various websites lmao. The funny trivia I remember about Death's Head is the fact they put out a character intro comic solely so Hasbro wouldn't get the rights to the character since it would make him a Marvel character instead of a Transformers one. Infinitely more based of a move than what Ken Penders pulled with Archie sonic and characters he technically didn't even make like "Sonic but he's a biker gang leader" or "cyborg Robotnik".

yeah iirc that was after Circuit Breaker ended up mixed ownership
but yeah I always dug how Death's Head managed to make enemies of the Transformers, The Fantastic Four, and the Doctor (among others)

I managed to get two threads on TFW2005 discussion around this shitpiece locked because I mocked the fuck out of it, and them. I essentially said, "Yum, yum, yum. Give me more shit tier Marvel writing Hollywood Daddy", and they lost their fucking minds over it. Apparently no one can criticize anything ever over there. It actually got so bad that they began actively wondering why a 40 year old man was on a Transformers fan site (which is just wild to me).

Goddamn, I hate these fucking kids.
You must’ve been pretty obnoxious then, because I’d say about 50% of the people in these threads are saying it looks like generic, hot garbage.

This would be easier to swallow if there was a serious main transformers movie series still going on and this was just a little throwaway for the kids. I mean nobody's complaining about the Botbots.

They literally stopped doing that in the 80's so that they could keep all of their IP's separate. This is due to issues they had back in the day with Godzilla and with Hasbro stuff. GI Joe was often seen as a Transformers adjacent comic because it was owned by Hasbro. It's why G2 Megatron first appeared in GI Joe. UK didn't care though. That's why they had Doctor Who show up. Marvel UK was basically a separate imprint from American Marvel Comics. that at first just reprinted American stuff but later were allowed to print off original titles.

I did low-key but that's only because the kids I babysat watched it on repeat. I chalk that up to just my forced experience.

Thankfully they've realized Prime is superior.

yeah iirc the explanation for the dinobots in the comics was they landed in The Savage Land

Nah. There was one guy trying to derail everything by trying to tell people that they can't be critical and was tone policing fucking EVERYONE. TFW2005 is filled with Leftists. The fact that they attacked my age, instead of trying to understand my position showed me all I needed to know about how a good majority of them felt. They shilled for Hollywood goyslop, and I called them out for that. They didn't like it.

I find that odd when they're all over the age of 25 there. I think they try coping with the fact that the majority of fans out there are old fucks like us and not children like they want to pretend they are. It's why they keep giving us the same characters every three years now. Very few people there are critical of anything IDW has done or any of the new cartoons because they're afraid they'll get canceled or something. If Seibertron was updated more often I would just go there for information.

Yeah I’ll admit the film looks generic as hell and it’s clearly for kids/teens…but wasn’t that always the target demographic of Transformers? It’s basically a glorified IP created by a corporation made to hawk plastic toys. Not particularly mature stuff.

Sentai and Kamen Rider do basically the same fuckin' thing for Japanese kids, but they don't talk down to their audience. Children aren't as stupid as most people think they are. There's some really, REALLY dark shit in Kamen Rider, and no one's had any "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" autistic screeching over it.

Also, Prime could get pretty dark with shit too, and you're telling me that it's just for kids? Are you fucking high?

No, but again I’m not the one who autistically raged on a Transformers forum derailing multiple threads with other autists. I’m also not gonna get angry about an IP pushing out corporate slop when its reason for existing was to sell plastic crap. I don’t care if the series has ever had “dark” or “edgy” adaptations. It’s still corpo shit at the end of the day.

This is coming from someone who thought the toys were cool when I was younger, but like an adult I grew out of it and moved on. That should be normalized except our culture now thrives on marketing to, or enraging, manchildren who can’t let stuff from their childhood go. That’s why we get soulless, generic films in the first place. Originality is dead, and corpos killed it.
