Ill probably check out prime because its way removed from anything I've ever seen and it seems to be popular. I think RiD is the one I was super into as a kid. I watched some YouTube clips and that's generally what pops into my head when I think of "my" transformers growing up. I saw the next show or two after it sometimes when they were on but I was moved on to other things by that point and I think it was because I couldn't make heads or tails out of if any of it was related at all to the prior stuff.G1 is good, but gets real goofy as shit in parts. Can definitely recommend Transformers Prime. Prime is good shit. Animated is fun, but kind of mid at points. The designs were cool though. Robots in Disguise (RiD or Car Robots in Japan) was a fun ride, and SEVERLY underrated.
now obviously I wouldn't give a shit but I had the same issue around that time in the early 00s with anime series we got too. I watched Gundam and then when the next show was a total reboot (or might have been when they played the original show) I didn't quite get it and was like ah fuck this I'm 8 I don't give a god damn ill watch something else. lol
I was clicking around on that TF wiki today since I have been reading this thread and on the note of continuity it's absolutely insane the Japanese version of the franchise tried to be one solid continuity as long as it did with as many exclusive and flat out incompatible shows and stories they got.
personally I think the best course of action for this type of franchise (toy commercial) is continue continuity in comics or one off short movies or something for older fans but just reboot (or soft reboot) every next tv cycle so the next round of children are locked in and get it and the ones who grew up with it still have stuff to check out. It seems like that's essentially what they've done the last 20 years and seems better than the continuity clusterfuck the japs had going on from after the movie until the mid 2000s
