The naming during that era was a mess. he was Black Convoy in Car Robots, Scourge in RiD, then Nemesis Prime in Armada, Scourge in Micron Legend. no Nemesis/Scourge at all for Energon, but Takara made a model kit for Grand Convoy and eventually repainted it in black as Grand Scourge.
3 fucking names for what is essentially the same character over the course of like, 4 years lol.

it seems that in takara's releases Car robots/Rid Scourge is named black convoy and the nemesis primes are named scourge though the latter is not always the fucking case because reasons. Amada Nemesis prime and Grand scourge are creations of unicron in Optimus' image while Black convoy is a lookalike to optimus who is still very much his own guy. This isn't even going into the fucking insane amounts of different nemesis prime-type entities and characters there are in transformers.

The Unicron Trilogy ones are the odd ones out, besides them the vast majority of Black Primes in Japan are just called Black Convoy or a variation of it.
I do think that the fact hes a Unicron Herald is probably the reason they went with the name Scourge to distance him from the others who were all Optimus clones at the time and had nothing to do with Unicron, but its still pretty retarded.
it doesn't really surprise me because Unicron Trilogy on both sides of the ocean had some of the most retarded naming choices in the entire franchise. Hasbro's constant fucking obsession to change Megatron to Galvatron every show even when it makes no sense, Japan's autistic name changes to some characters(Blurr to Silverbolt, Demolisher to Ironhide etc) or just the outright confusing ones like Tidal Wave being Shockwave in Japan, and then interacting with Shockblast in Superlink who's called Laserwave, it's even worse with Demolisher/Ironhide and Ironhide/Roadbuster in Superlink. just thinking about it makes me have an aneurysm.

And then there's the hot rod/hot shot thing where a bunch of stuff on the hasbro side says hot shot was intended to be bumblebee despite the minicon sparkplug literally being an armada reimagining of bumblebee and hot shot clearly just being a then "modern anime-ified" take on g1 hot rod with the torso flames being replaced with straps, only to later gain g1 hot rod's colors after that fight that changed a bunch of character's color-schemes, which also made starscream "look like thundercracker" but he kept being called starscream in both versions despite megatron randomly becoming galvatron in the english/hasbro release. This isn't even touching on the fact that within the trilogy despite hot rod/hot shot being a guy fucking rodimus is a seperate character entirely that ends up mentoring hotrod for a while instead of an upgraded form like he was advertised for a bit. It's madness all around during that timeframe lmao.

The thing about Hot Rod & Shockwave is that technically those were the first time those names were ever used in Japan, since Hot Rod was always Hot Rodimus and Shockwave was always Laserwave there.
its still really weird tho, and yeah the Megatron and Thundercracker shit makes no sense. the one thing you gotta give Japan though at least for Micron Legend & Superlink is they didnt keep flip flopping on Megatron's name, he was just Megatron all the way through ML and Galvatron all the way through Superlink.

I mean that makes sense considering superlink/energon megatron/galvatron is literally an update to the g1 galvatron first homaging toy colors and then animation colors while still keeping the general sillouette of armada/micron megatron.
Weirdest partof the Megatron/galvatron shit was cybertron solely dueto the fact he's called galvatron when he reverts to more traditional megatron colors, albeit with a purple face. He was just megatron the whole time in japan for that one too, from what I remember.

Galaxy Force is weird because it wasn't made as a sequel to the previous two shows, but eventually retconned into being a trilogy like America.

MP-57 Masterpiece Skyfire looks okay from a distance but I don't think I want to actually play with it.
Waist swivels are hard I guess. Looks better than Phoenix. Though Phoenix has a better head (Phoenix does technically have a waist swivel but you have to undo some part so I don't usually consider that a waist swivel).
Jet mode looks pretty good. Not as good as Fans Toys though.
Better size comparison though I think. Phoenix is way too tall.
All in all I'll be replacing my Fans Toys version

I always thought Phoenix looked whack, most Fanstoys stuff does to me, their sculpts are always weird.
I don't know about him specifically but their Transformations are also nightmarish most of the time too.
I ain't buying an MP Skyfire but I am curious to see how the Takara will transform, I always like seeing their insane retarded engineering for things.
I got MP Artfire recently, its one of the most impressively engineered toys I've ever handled. the ladder is kind of a chode, and it doesn't rotate or extend, I don't really care for the flat smoothed out aesthetic, but it almost doesn't matter because the transformation is so fun and interesting.

He's around the same size as siege jetfire it seems, maybe a bit taller by a head or 2. I can't afford these fucking 200-300-500 dollar range transformers and at this rate I'll never be able to, but I'm genuinely surprised they didn't bump up the price like they've doen for every other mp release the past several years.It's standard current year masterpiece price despite being like twice the size of most of them and if that doesn't say someting about how bloated the prices are on collectibles in current year I don't know what else would.
...well there's always the cases like 300 dollar MP beast megatron's torso exploding with no pressure or the paint easily chipping off the 500 dollar optimus.

the main thing that bloats the price on stuff like mp44 is the abundance of accessories and the fact literally every single piece is painted for some retarded reason.
we've already seen that they charge less for dudes like Skids presumably because they just cost less to make.
it also might just be hollow or have simpler engineering because hes big and basic, I don't know if anyone on here has had stuff like the masterpiece Sunstreaker mold, but they're incredibly dense and basically have 0 empty spaces in either modes, hes the same size as Sideswipe but nearly twice the weight, not from diecast or anything just the sheer amount of pieces he has.
on the flipside if you've ever had MP Star Saber you'll know hes big hollow and incredibly simple, he had diecast to bring him up to the weight he should have just been with diecast but he still felt cheap and awful, hopefully they'll learn from that moving onto Jetfire because in my opinion Star Saber is still the worst MP they've put out, at least from the ones I've handled.

There's a sale on hasbro pulse that's 40% off your order on select items if you get $75 worth and a majorityof their transformers were on it, but they're like all fucking sold out by the time I find out about the fucking thingand apperently have been since right after it started for the actual pulse exclusives I was waiting for any kind of discount on. They're never gonna be back in stock given what happened with fucking shattered glass starscream, I fucking wish places actually restocked their exclusives with this shift to online only stock shit and I don't think I'll ever get kingdom rodimus now cause that's fucked too despite being non-exclusive because through this sale it's like actually sanely priced and it's gone now.
Maybe I'll pick up some of the scraps left behind by the initial swarm of scalpers and bots, maybe I won't.
Unrelated, but at some point I need to go down in the basement and scour through the boxes my old beast wars and unicron trilogy transformers from back when I was a kid are in but I'm concerned cause it's been like way over a decade since I last checked in those boxes. Shits been moved around down there without me knowing every once and a while so I have no clue where the box with them is aside from vague notions. I think I explained this forever ago now but a lot of the transformers I got back then were used and secondhand from this one dude's store. Guy's still open, just moved his place to a completely different city far off from me ican't go to as frequently a year or 2 before lockdown hell hit. He's usually got really neat new or used movie merch or transformers shit, along with gi joe and ultraman. Shit's great.
