my wife and I were watching some fansubs of the big showdown for Blaster and Soundwave (and the aftermath)
we were both G1ers enough to get hype for a final showdown between them but not into the jp content to any great extent so we didn't know what was going to happen
they just sort of stand there, shoot at each other, fall over dead, and then everybody's sad they're dead but they're back with TWO tapes at a time and different colors next week so whatever fuck you buy the toy
we laughed our asses off at how it played out

IIRC the later JP exclusive g1 seasons were on an even tighter budget than the rest but I could be remembering that wrong. Either way they got a lot of cool ideas that are clearly hampered in execution in some way.

The "official dubs" are the kind of thing that live in my mind since seeing clips of them well over a decade ago.

Speedy dubs make nearly everything better
but yeah I recall them looking pretty sharp, nothing nuts like Orbots or Starcom but at least on-par with your average robot toy commercial show

Supergod Masterforce and Victory had some genuinely beautiful animation and even the Headmasters to a lesser extent, far better than the original G1 cartoon. While most definitely not flawless and not my favorite (that would be victory), i appreciate the Headmasters anime for what it is and doing many things we wouldn't ever have seen in the original G1 show. The Decepticons are more competent and imposing here (barring some of them lol) and alongside the Marvel comic, it was this show that actually made Scorponok a terrifying and intimidating villain who could actually accomplish his ideas, as opposed to Megatron who was too busy bullshitting around in most of season 1 and 2, until the 1986 movie came. Sixshot also recieved some great characterization compared to the west and Weirdwolf, Skullcruncher and Mindwipe were a enjoyable trio to watch their various antics. On a somewhat related note i actually wish Hasbro did more with Scorponok as a character and really just any other villain that used to be relevant such as Bludgeon, whereas today it seems like the only one they want you to care about is Megatron and i'm quite frankly way past that point

It's all because they got people who hadexperience writing Mecha series before. They could cater to the local audience rather than a worldwide one.

It's so weird seeing scorponok get turned into either dollar general scorpion grimlock or just some background mook for megatron over the last few iterations of transformers. It's boring in the same way the stuff I complained about at some point earlier is. The whole " every pitched "fix" I've seen for any character I've seen the last few years is always like "a loyal member of the faction" and if it's not that it's just basically starscream (either g1 OR armada) with extra steps without the stuff that make people like the character." kinda shit.

From what I've seen of the later g1 seasons that only aired overseas, their OST and presentation very clearly draws from the 86 movie while still also kinda having the same vibe of the first 3 seasons.

Like just looking at uploads of the soundtrack you can see what I mean.
A big reason why things were able to progress is because they changed it from a per-episode story thing to a continuous story kinda deal. Interestingly this would carry over into every iteration of transformers after this despite these seasons only airing in a few parts of the world.

It's funny how after I get a scorponok variant for a decent-ish price they announce a more affordable leader version

Also wondering how exactly transmetal megatron is going to be inaccurate in bot mode since the main difference between the og and transmetal design is the latter one is metallic and transforms more like grimlock in terms of design. Only thing I can think of is them like keeping the leg guns and giant head and tail where they are which doesn't seem to be in that silhouette shot.

Ill wait until we see a prototype or render of transmetal megatron griffin. Hopefully it wouldn't be that inaccurate.

so i bit the bullet and got the 25 dollar one.
holy shit, this thing is huge. IMG_20261005_180151567_HDR.jpg

mosa storm is not really a tripple changer like the box implies, it's more that you add the extra bits to the tank to make it an animal.
that said, i has a lot of ratchets, it poses well and only is a bit wobly and not as sturdy as a real transformer.
but look at the aura it gives off!

like i said, the vehicle mode is just a space tank with extra bits added to make a sea creature, but it is massive, it transforms with the song of ten ratchets moving at the same time and just hits the itch man.(using power of the primes rodimus prime for scale, as he was one of the last huge leaders)

and his/her bot mode(have to look up, the partner/driver on the side of the box is a girl) is bigger then an old style leader! the robot mode also can have different weapon configurations too.

in short, this is some real bang for your buck. let me remind you again; this thing was 25 euros, the rodimus was 50-60 back in the day.

also lol, they said "fuck it" and just straight up use transform instead of convert.

The animal and tank mode stuff just reminds me of doubledealer. Also IIRC the "convert" thing is hasbro's doing. Like everything but transformers that does the same thing uses transform. IIRC it's some weird legalese patenty thing for "brand recognizability" or some shit where they think saying transform on the instructions for transformers cheapens it.

I remember back in the day the cybertron toys had codes on some of the cyber planet keys that when put into a specific website would give you an image of the figure's concept art. I'm guessing there's a collection of all of those images somewhere online, but it was a genuinely cool feature to include they didn't really need to. Design process stuff in general has always been something fun to look into.

EDIT: It's been a while since I took some photos. Tomorrow I'll try my best to get some in like I've been meaning to.
