I watched like the first ten seconds and immediately thought it looked like a Tim and Eric sketch.

At least from the commercials I've seen, never actually watched that show.

But it looked pretty similar.

Not going to lie, I'm enjoying the video. I got past the first few minutes and I find the story interesting.

I don't have time to watch the video but it definitely doesn't seem like lolcow material.

As far as I can tell, both Ryan and her opponents are headache-inducing.

I dunno about you, but it's watchable if you view this as an elaborate ruse by Penn Jilette.

This video is a mixed bag to me. On one hand, she relies on labels WAAAAAY too much. "6'6" 350 lb. non-passing queer feminist economically-challenged (seriously, fuck you) transgender woman". However, this really isn't lolcow material. It actually reminds me quite a bit of Glen or Glenda. Off-topic, but Glen or Glenda is a bad movie on a technical level but had quite a few good points (apart from the Green Dragon segment...seriously what the hell, that was like an acid trip) and was easily 50 years ahead of its time. So, if you're looking to find an Ed Wood movie to laugh at like I was, Plan 9 from Outer Space is much funnier in that regard. Glen or Glenda actually has a good message. But I digress...

Anyway, once you can get past the first part (I laughed almost on impulse when she started singing Do You Really Want to Hurt Me. Go ahead and mock me for being a bad person.), there's a good story to be told. Granted, her voice is grating to me, but I think most of the issues of not being able to see her as a woman but rather just a man in drag come with the limited medical scope of transgender operations short of having a lot of money. The Miss Universe candidate who got ousted for being a transgendered person immediately comes to mind as being an example of a well-done operation while a horrible operation would be considered either this lady in the video or (even worse) ADF. I apologize if this sounds extremely shallow, but the limited state of transgender therapy today really is a shame in terms of making people feel like the gender they want to be.

I understand that an operation which ends up like the Miss Universe candidate is what most of these male to female trans folks strive for. However, for a lot of people it can't even come close to that depending on the look of each individual person and how much money they can spend in cosmetic operations. I understand that medical advances are limited and this is still a fringe thing for a lot of people, but like Null said, don't cry bigotry because I don't think you're a pretty girl. Don't blow up at me if I can't figure out which gender you are based on the looks of the operation alone.

I've watched about a quarter of it and might say something else upon watching the rest of it. It's really obvious she has a resentment of cisgender folks (boy, I had to do all I could do to stop myself from saying normal people. Shows how much this is accepted) though...

What the fuck is economically challenged? You mean poor?

I agree that a person should be refered to as the gender they identify with (Unless you're ADF, mostly because he's pretty much transgender because of his victim complex which is also why he's jewish and a communist despite knowing jack shit about either group) but strangers arn't always going to reconize you as a woman and that's gotta suck. And then there are the people who tell transgendered people that "they're just pretending" or that they're the scum of the earth and shit which sucks even more. I havn't watched the video but I guess she has a legit reason to be kind of upset and she has a screechy voice and then she sings a song? I'm not getting the lolcow part other than the screeching and "economically challenged"

Stopped watching.

That was about as far as I got. If you are built like a rugby player don't start moaning if I fail to recognise that you are a woman. WTF does Economically Challenged mean? Is that the new PC way of calling someone poor?

Political correctness has ruined words. You can't say the truth anymore because it's racist/sexist/cisscum/whatever liberals scream at you. So yes, this is a guy who is poor, and 304989324 other labels that make no sense.

Quite frankly, I get sick of transexuals bitching constantly. Sorry I called you "He" by accident, but no matter how much you try, you still look like a guy in drag.

To be completely fair, it's a legit complaint for trans people. Imagine if everywhere you went, people saw you as the opposite sex, and no matter what you did, you were the opposite sex to everyone. Not an enticing proposition. The whole "guy in drag" look is far from the way they dream of presenting and is illustrative of the rather primitive (yet accepted and efficacious) form of therapy transitioning is.

I kinda agree but the issue for me lies in superficial aesthetics, I mean, I agree and support about tolerance, respect and recognition to the transgender and transexual people as a human right, but what makes me cringe is how some people like this seem to lack a sense of ridiculous, I mean if they are a woman on the inside or want to dress like women is ok, but why they have to act so cartoonishy camp, like homophobic caricatures instead of just regular women, if they are too old and into "manhood" to be pretty then why pretending to be fabulous while "doing" "girly" voices. Ugly women would look so weird too if they do stuff like that.

Is not hate, but they just look ridiculous to me, and I am not talking about actual decent and atractive gender benders (there are many of them and the ones I know are far from looking like attention whores).

"One night we were both very drunk and decided to go to a club. The guy running the club said "No drag queens". When we sobered up, we were both very humiliated."
aaaaaaaaaand that's why I don't take you seriously

I can't wait until Murrica becomes the police state that these leftist so desperately want, then they will realize they have made a terrible mistake

I don't know about that. This person seems lulzy as fuck. Not every lulcow has to be autistic. I can tell this person has some funny moments against the evil cissies. This article kind of proves it. http://gendertrender.wordpress.com/tag/ ... ruby-ryan/

Heh, I could tell you guys were talking about Joelle Ryan without even clicking on the link. I think she actually is autistic. I've read pretty far into her blog and she makes a lot of sense sometimes but then just goes straight off the deep end within the space of a couple of sentences. It's like listening to a Charlie Manson interview.

There are ways of reading "economically challenged" that mean more than "poor." Like people who only have the health/ability to work part-time, or people who are unemployable like Chris. It can mean "not only poor, but there's no fucking hope for upward mobility." This can happen when you come from a long line of poor people and never learned the social skills to mingle with people above your economic class. This can happen when you've got the 'tism and can't read social cues. Aaaand, guess what, this can happen if you have the brain of a woman but you were born to be a 6'6", linebacker-looking person. People are freaked out by The Different, so this woman in the video is never going to be hired for the plethora of jobs in which people claim looks don't matter, but they really do. This could include something as simple as being a receptionist.

I dunno, every time I hear someone say some variation of "That's a guy, and I don't have to treat him like a woman," I hear the same guy's voice in the background screaming, "Nobody better cut off MY precious dick!" It could just be the acoustics of living in a valley, of course.

Just finished watching it. You might be surprised how did I survived watching it for 40 minutes of that. Simple, I lost my consciousness 10 minutes in. Seems like my body experienced astral projection and went to somewhere else awesome.

A very unusual person to say the least. Hard to listen to, next to impossible to sit trough. But a lolcow? No. Lolcow's have one common characteristic, IMO, they have to make you laugh. And at no point did this poor unenviable lovechild of André the Giant and Eddie Izzard make me laugh.
