Stardew Valley players have been targeted with doxxing and abuse for asking the game’s developer to add pronouns.

In October, fans began requesting that developer Eric Barone – aka ConcernedApe – add pronouns to the farm-life sim game, as a way to better represent non-binary players.

A petition was created by fan Atmos Fierce, which has garnered more than 8,600 signatures.

However, the call has resulted in abuse from anti-LGBTQ+ fans of the game, who have targeted streamers and members of the community by either purposefully misgendering them, sending abuse, or doxxing them.

Doxxing refers to the act of sharing private information such as a home address, phone number, or other identifiable details, publicly on the internet.

Transgender streamers appear to be the main target of the abuse, with some users telling them to “be careful” playing Stardew Valley while the controversy continues to rumble on.

Barone’s silence has been “deafening”, one person claimed.

“Transphobes are doxxing and harassing members of your Stardew Valley community simply because they are advocating for a pronoun update,” the user wrote. “It is extremely important for you to speak up for them.”

The lack of response has led some to suggest a boycott of the game until either a statement is made or pronouns are added to the game.

“I truly do not care if ConcernedApe speaks on pronouns in the game any more,” one user said. “I want [him] to condemn the transphobia and violence against the trans members of the community.”

An affiliate for the streaming site, Twitch, said they would not be playing the game any longer because of Barone’s lack of response.

“It does not feel right for me to continue streaming or playing Stardew Valley,” they wrote. “It truly breaks my heart to see the amount of people getting hurt.”

PinkNews has contacted Eric Barone for a comment.

In the actual game you (the character) are referred to by your pronouns less then a handful of times. Often times characters will just refer to you as "The Farmer" or "Character Name" so asking for a pronoun choice is honestly so fucking retarded.

Not to mention there already exist dozens of mods that do just that already available on Nexus or Gamebanana.
Not being referred to by my preferred pronouns in every single interaction destroys my fragile mental state to the point that I need to be admitted to a psychiatric ward before I cause lasting harm to myself or others. I also think I'm sane enough that doctors must prescribe me hormones and refer me for irreversible, experimental surgery or fear having their medical licence revoked.

People who don't approve of "transgenderism" aren't necessarily afraid of "transgenders". The word "transphobes" is misleading.

But of course by "transphobes", that journo likely really meant "wrongthinkers" there.
Repeat after me
Like all the faux-phobias, it is meant to delegitimize dissent. If you have a specific objection to a behavior, an idea, a means of practicing one’s religion, you are reacting irrationally.

I hope all responses from Concerned Ape consist of "you can pick your sex in this game". If dysphoria was a user's problem, that would be enough.
Trannies just can't help themselves and constantly demonstrate this is a fetish and they get off on forcing people to say obviously untrue things, even in their escapist farming simulator.

A phobia doesn’t just mean fear; it means an irrational fear or hatred.

This is still incorrect as hating them is perfectly rational.

I'll played far too much Stardew Valley and its values are pretty middle of the road liberal, which almost feels old-fashioned for a game like this in 2024. It's like...Sims 1 level? All the romance options are available for both sexes and occasionally one of them will call attention to being in a same sex relationship if one exists. A gay married couple can adopt kids and a straight married couple will conceive kids, though the process is treated identically. There are no trans or nonbinary people.

None of the non-romanceable characters are in same-sex relationships or otherwise canonically gay. Everyone is white with the exception of one black character married to a white woman who has a son from a previous marriage, and they have a daughter together; the son will remark that he and his half-sister don't look alike. The game lightly touches upon themes of alcoholism, abuse, mental illness, racism, grief, PTSD, etc., but a lot of those themes are in background details you won't ever notice if you aren't looking for them.

Anyway, my point is that I don't think ConcernedApe is especially concerned (lol) with neo-wokery. He's made so much money off of this game already I doubt he feels moved to involve himself in this nonsense.

Yeah but that doesn't give you the euphoria™ of forcing someone to do something your way (which is the real reason trannies are pushing this)

Holy fuck, you can already make yourself look like whatever you want regardless of gender, name yourself whatever you want regardless of gender, date the majority of the cast regardless of gender, and iirc, there's not a lot of times where people even address you with pronouns anyway, so shit like preferred pronouns would only come up a handful of times if it actually was implemented.

If you're so assblasted that a game as wholesome, and LGBTQ-friendly as SV is still not progressive enough for you, you should genuinely kill yourself because holy shit, you're a fucking lost cause, and a spoiled, and entitled one at that.
