Stardew Valley players have been targeted with doxxing and abuse for asking the game’s developer to add pronouns.

In October, fans began requesting that developer Eric Barone – aka ConcernedApe – add pronouns to the farm-life sim game, as a way to better represent non-binary players.

A petition was created by fan Atmos Fierce, which has garnered more than 8,600 signatures.

However, the call has resulted in abuse from anti-LGBTQ+ fans of the game, who have targeted streamers and members of the community by either purposefully misgendering them, sending abuse, or doxxing them.

Doxxing refers to the act of sharing private information such as a home address, phone number, or other identifiable details, publicly on the internet.

Transgender streamers appear to be the main target of the abuse, with some users telling them to “be careful” playing Stardew Valley while the controversy continues to rumble on.

Barone’s silence has been “deafening”, one person claimed.

“Transphobes are doxxing and harassing members of your Stardew Valley community simply because they are advocating for a pronoun update,” the user wrote. “It is extremely important for you to speak up for them.”

The lack of response has led some to suggest a boycott of the game until either a statement is made or pronouns are added to the game.

“I truly do not care if ConcernedApe speaks on pronouns in the game any more,” one user said. “I want [him] to condemn the transphobia and violence against the trans members of the community.”

An affiliate for the streaming site, Twitch, said they would not be playing the game any longer because of Barone’s lack of response.

“It does not feel right for me to continue streaming or playing Stardew Valley,” they wrote. “It truly breaks my heart to see the amount of people getting hurt.”

PinkNews has contacted Eric Barone for a comment.

From what I remember of this game im pretty sure theres already gayshit and i believe race mixing? the game is already hellish enough but it can all be modded out and i remember the general consensus being that the older version of the game was the true one and that newer versions wont ever matter due to them fucking with mods in an effort to make more mod compatibility.
So long as theres atleast one mirror for the depozzing mods he can defile his own art as much as he wants, thats his own choice to be an inhuman faggot. Tho saying no to these subhumans after getting so many signatures would be pretty funny so I hope he makes the right choice.
Eh, it’s not ultra pozzed? Like, it isn’t ultra based either, but it isn’t like it forces the gay or lesbian options on you or anything. I legitimately don’t care if you put that sorta shit in the game, so long as I’m not forced to interact with it if I don’t have to.

Also… the only thing ConcernedApe has to do, and what I HOPE he continues to do… is nothing. He does and says nothing, and this shit will burn itself out. Oh, sure, him telling these people to fuck off would be cathartic… but him setting a precedent that the best business move is doing nothing at all to these whining bitches would help people on both sides of the isle. People need to stop shoving their politics and fringe social shit into everything they make, and that applies even to takes I agree with, tbh.

Sadly the farm sim genre is generally pozzed as fuck.
The people that hate work and going outside sure do love their chore simulators.

One of my favorite funny things about the fandom is how popular Shane is and how he is depicted as an uwu bishie in fanart despite clearly actually being a 5'5 beer belly fat alcoholic loser that has a trash covered room if you marry him. Harvey is best male romance option, sorry just stating facts.

This is what the average queer who signed that petition looks like.

When she started insisting that the dev was bad for doing it all by himself, because as a presumably cis white man, he can't be diverse, my brain started leaking out my ears.

A man makes an excellent game all by himself, updates it for free for a decade, and that is somehow morally wrong. He needs to hire a bunch of brown faggots to make everything gayer or he's a nazi, you see.

In the actual game you (the character) are referred to by your pronouns less then a handful of times. Often times characters will just refer to you as "The Farmer" or "Character Name" so asking for a pronoun choice is honestly so fucking retarded.

Not to mention there already exist dozens of mods that do just that already available on Nexus or Gamebanana.
Its weird how they phrase it as "adding pronouns" when they actually describe how they want to remove dialogue that references gender. I hate how games these days make race and gender a literal meaningless choice nobody acknowledges ever in order to be inclusive. Inclusion is anti immersion.

You cant have the orc player actually experience racism that their description says they face because you dont want to lock the player out of quests, you cant have the female character even be mocked by someone written as an asshole unless they are immediately humiliated in the same scene. It literally makes character creation meaningless and in the case of Stardew Valley it actually reduces the depth of the gay characters to have the player be a mono-genderblob.

Alex for example has an abusive father, and is being raised by his grandparents. His grandfather is wheelchair bound, and homophobic if you start dating Alex before you and George have a good relationship. Alex himself even acknowledges that he never had the peace of mind to think about his sexuality before. It might be meaningless flavor dialogue, but it still adds a lot of depth to the characters saying it.

Now imagine if the wonk-eye from Harmful Opinion's recent Stardew video got what she wanted and all that was stripped so they dont need to think about how they failed as their birth gender.

I would give in and add three pronoun choices:

- he/she
- she/her
- it/its

(edit, thanks @Absolutego)
Have the third gender option completely remove your ability to romance any of the bachelor/ettes around town, it would be realistic.

No matter how far somebody bends backwards for these people, it is never enough. Stardew Valley is one of the most wholesome games I've had recent memory of playing and there's plenty enough tranny faggot options for these shitheads to be happy, allowing beards on women and same-sex relationships and shit. About times people starting standing up top the activist freaks and on a cute farming simulator of all things. :)

It's not actually about whether the player is called "he" or "she", it's about acknowledging the concept that pronouns are something one chooses. They use it as a litmus test to determine who's on their side and who isn't.

That's why just being able to choose a character's sex and having the grammar change accordingly isn't good enough. That doesn't provide what they actually want, which is proof that the creator is on their ideological side and therefore, the media is acceptable to enjoy.

Linus(the homeless guy) is somehow less of a loser. He's even less of a loser than the Harvest Moon character he's based on, Murray. At least Linus bathes.
