Besides inconveniencing and violating every person within a 50 foot radius with their general presence every single day, they use their weight as a ploy to get social security disability, translation taxpayer dollars pay for their little Debbie snacks and daily visits to McDonald's and Chinese buff-ettes. Hospitals (especially in the south) have had to spend a lot of money on knocking out doorframes and expanding them because they literally can't wheel the expanded deathfat hospital gurnies through the doors. Larger beds have to be ordered and those aren't cheap, not to mention I'm sure there's a lot of additional training nurses have to be put through in order to give care to morbidly obese people.

In NYC we have to walk everywhere a train can't take us. Lots of stairs, lots of walking, lots of weaving between people. When a morbidly obese tourist rolls in I feel like we have a right to stare -- like, oh you just got here and you're gonna be miserable.

Crude comments aside, I really do question whether fat phobia is such a horrible word. Most of us feel unsettled when we encounter someone with a giant face tumor or an amputated limb—not in a bad way, I think we just unconsciously put ourselves in their shoes due to natural empathy and the thought of being deformed makes us uncomfortable. But with the super morbidly obese it’s even more complicated because you know, whether they’re struggling with bad genes or PCOS or some other involuntary cause of weight gain, it’s still undeniable that they are responsible for their weight. You CANNOT blow up to 600lbs when you’re following a strict diet plan and exercising as much as you can, it’s not like cancer.
That’s why, at a grocery store for example, we don’t (or at least we shouldn’t) get so annoyed when we have a downy as our cashier, or an elderly person moving slowly. But even the best of us would quickly get irritated with an obese person taking up the whole line, huffing and puffing all over the place, checking out with twice as many groceries for themselves as you are for your family. It’s aggravating because we wouldn’t have to deal with this shit if they weren’t so gluttonous in the first place.

So ye, that’s why people treat you different, Amber. Your fat speaks to your character and most people do not care for greedy, inconsiderate slobs. Keep whining about how people shouldn’t assume things of you, how you’ve made so much progress and you never give up, blah blah blah. Not saying it to be insulting (although I’m happy it worked out that way), but the ONLY thing you’ve made progress on and haven’t given up is gaining weight. People seem to dislike feeling shame, which is understandable because it’s not exactly a pleasant feeling. With that being said, if somebody offers constructive criticism, for example: you have BO and need deodorant, I think it’s important to feel shame. Because in that type of situation something you were doing is affecting others more negatively than the shame that you feel about the situation. A lot of the movements I see are about not shaming people, which is equally as important as calling people out on their bullshit.

If you are 600 pounds and you feel a ashamed because people, DOCTORS, tell you that you need to lose weight and need to stick to a diet, don’t you think that the shame you feel is important somehow? How can you build yourself up to be a better person if you never recognize that you were doing things wrong? This is why things like shame are important emotions to have and shouldn’t be ignored simply because they don’t feel good.

And there is a difference between someone who is bullying and someone who is trying to help. How you distinguish those two types of people is completely up to you. But ignoring your emotions, even negative ones, is unhealthy.

Nothing outside of a legitimate pituitary gland issue which is really fucking rare can be used as an excuse. Perhaps some sort of illness or literal handicap like paralysis or not having limbs could excuse it to a point, but those people are generally average if not slightly overweight. PCOS is not and never has been an excuse to even get to 200 elbees unless you're 6' tall. You have to watch your weight because insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances are at the core of it and the best way to manage it is diet and exercise.
