Trevor Jacob / @trevorjacob93 / @trevorjacob - Former US Olympic Snowboarder, moved into chasing views on Youtube with increasingly elaborate stunts, culminating in him crashing a plane in the Californian wilderness in the middle of the fire season

So apparently Elliott Smith from the NTSB will be investigating Trevor's misadventure. Here is a video about it, not much info but they go into a past investigation conducted by the same agent. We'll find out exactly what happened, it's just going to take some more time.
On an unrelated note, it's good to see Scooby's channel getting some well deserved love! I will not look like that at 60. Hell I didn't look like that at 20.

Damn, I made this thread a week before most American MSM outlets picked up the story. Found it on the 8th I think, thread made 16th, Good Morning America segment on the 22nd.
Here's in Mircrosoft Flight Sim

Follow up from the soft spoken guy, he overlays a foresty map of the condor sanctuary with where Trevor crashed.

Don't mind, there's not alot to talk about. He's doing the smart thing and staying silent on most social media for the past two months. I think he's made posts on instagram but that's behind an account wall.

The only tangentially thing I could find was he chewed out another Olympic snowboarder for getting upset someone called her the N word.
These posts are Feb 15th I think, so only a few weeks ago.
His account, if anyone wants to dig.

A reddit post directed me to this channel, he gives a pretty good summary.
But also in August 2019, another similar crash for internet fame happened in the pacific off the coast of Cali.
Another video comparison.
So in September 2019, David Lesh was caught Snowmobiling in a Wilderness area in Colorado. That's a no-no as no heavy machinery was allowed in that part.

In October 2020, caught defecating in an Aspen Lake in Colorado. He posted the picture to Instagram.

January 2022, 10k fine, 1 year probation for the snowmobiling.

Here's a decent article on him, compiled by that snowbrains site:

2014 arrested for Arson.
2011c17dc4d4b1e877cc94c96b2f42f2_600x564-1.jpg

And all this to promote his outdoor lifestyle business. I feel like this guy has the potential for lolcowness, considering the notoriety in his small snowmobiling community and that he posts everything online.
Dude appeared on Judge Mathis in 2001.

Do you think he's doing anal training for when he ends up in prison?
I hope not. And if he's the adrenalin seeker he plays at, he shouldn't. Go into it (prison) both dry and virginal. That's a sure fire way to make Tyree "The Booty Bandit's" 14 inch, 2 liter bottle sized love muscle more exciting!

It looks like the FAA has stripped him of his pilots license and certificates after the preliminary report.

The Federal Aviation Administration has found that Trevor Jacob, a daredevil YouTuber who posted a video of himself last year parachuting out of a plane that he claimed had malfunctioned, purposely abandoned the aircraft and allowed it to crash into the Los Padres National Forest in Southern California.
In a letter to Mr. Jacob on April 11, the F.A.A. said he had violated federal aviation regulations and operated his single-engine plane in a “careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.”
The agency said it would immediately revoke Mr. Jacob’s private pilot certificate, effectively ending his permission to operate any aircraft.
Reached by email on Wednesday, Mr. Jacob appeared unaware of the F.A.A.’s ruling and replied, “Where’d you get that information?”

He did not immediately respond to follow-up emails.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel last week, Mr. Jacob, a former snowboarding Olympian turned YouTuber with more than 100,000 subscribers, briefly addressed the airplane controversy, saying, “I can’t talk about it, per my attorney.”
“But the truth of that situation will come out with time,” he added, “and I’ll leave that at that.”
The F.A.A. does not have the ability to prosecute; it can only revoke and suspend certificates and issue fines. The agency ordered Mr. Jacob to surrender his private pilot certificate and said he could face “further legal enforcement action” if he did not do so, including a civil penalty of up to $1,644 for each day that he did not return it.
A spokeswoman for the Transportation Department’s Office of Inspector General said in a statement that the agency, which oversees the F.A.A., could “neither confirm nor deny the existence of an investigation” into Mr. Jacob’s flight on Nov. 24.

Mr. Jacob captured falling through the air after exiting his aircraft. He has maintained that the plane’s malfunctions were real.

A 13-minute video of the crash, titled “I Crashed My Plane,” has more than 1.7 million views. It shows Mr. Jacob piloting a small 1940 Taylorcraft plane with several cameras attached, recording the sweeping views of Los Padres National Forest.

Mr. Jacob said in a statement in January that he had flown that day to spread the ashes of his best friend, Johnny Strange, over the top of a Sierra Nevada mountain. Mr. Strange died in 2015 while BASE jumping, an extreme sport in which people parachute from a fixed object or structure, such as a cliff.
In the video, Mr. Jacob unleashes a flurry of expletives when the propeller stops spinning. He opens the plane’s door and jumps out with a parachute, abandoning the plane as he descends toward the forest, a selfie stick in hand to record it all.
“I’m just so happy to be alive,” he says after landing in prickly brush. He documented his hike through the forest, which, he says in the video, lasted at least six hours until a farmer found him at dusk. Earlier, he had found the wrecked, mangled plane in a thicket of dried shrubs.
Almost immediately after he posted the video on Dec. 24, viewers and aviation experts expressed doubts online over his portrayal of the crash. It was orchestrated, they claimed, for views and likes, and several steps Mr. Jacob took, such as wearing a parachute in the first place, were evidence of a preconceived publicity stunt.
Mr. Jacob turned off comments for the video.
The F.A.A. agreed about the parachute in its letter, which it released in response to a request from The New York Times, and pointed out other revealing details that officials had uncovered during an investigation.
“During this flight, you opened the left side pilot door before you claimed the engine had failed,” the F.A.A. wrote.
Before jumping out of the plane, the agency said, Mr. Jacob made no attempt to contact air traffic control on the emergency frequency, did not try to restart the engine by increasing airflow over the propeller and failed to look for a place to safely land, “even though there were multiple areas within gliding range in which you could have made a safe landing.”

After the crash, Mr. Jacob also “recovered and then disposed of the wreckage,” the F.A.A. said.
“You demonstrated a lack of care, judgment and responsibility by choosing to jump out of an aircraft solely so you could record the footage of the crash,” the agency said. “Your egregious and intentional actions on these dates indicate that you presently lack the degree of care, judgment and responsibility required of a certificate holder.”

Updated OP, I found the letter the FAA sent to Trevor, the NYT apprantly got it through an FOIA request which was then posted to reddit. Trevor is also selling T-Shirts to pay attorney fees titled:
Feeling
Adventurous
Always
Or FAA.
His obliviousness to his situation is lolcow worthy I think.

Minor note: Scooby, the bodybuilder did a live Q&A as a gay married couple. Guess he showed some gymbros back in the day who's the Boss of this Gym. He seems like a laid back and chill guy though. Good for him for finding his Adonis.

Dan Gryder did a video about the Red Bull plane swap a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they were denied permission by the FAA to do the stunt, but they did it anyway. Dan talks about how this and Trevor Jacob's bullshit is likely to bring the FAA down really hard on people doing stunts for views. I really want to see all these guys pick up criminal charges over this. You can't break the law just because you want to get internet famous. This needs to end before innocent bystanders get killed.

Trevor Jacob bailed out of a solo flight over the Los Padres mountains in California in 2021

BBC News

A YouTuber who intentionally crashed an aeroplane for views will plead guilty to obstructing a federal investigation by cleaning up the site of the crash, US prosecutors say.

Trevor Jacob, 29, posted the video of the plane crash to YouTube in December 2021, implying it was an accident. It has over 2.9 million views to date.
In a plea agreement, he said he filmed the video as part of a product sponsorship deal.

He could face up to 20 years in prison.

The 29-year-old pilot and skydiver has agreed to plead guilty to one felony count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation, the US justice department said in a statement on Thursday.

In November 2021, Mr Jacob left a Santa Barbara, California airport on a solo flight with cameras mounted on his plane. Along with the cameras, Mr Jacob took a parachute with him, as well as a selfie stick.

He "did not intend to reach his destination, but instead planned to eject from his aircraft during the flight and video himself parachuting to the ground and his airplane as it descended and crashed", the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California said.

The plane crashed into the Los Padres National Forest 35 minutes after takeoff. He hiked to the site and recovered the footage.

Some YouTube viewers were sceptical of the crash, noting that Mr Jacob was already wearing a parachute and made no attempt to land the plane safely.

He reported the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board, who said he was responsible for preserving the wreckage. According to the plea agreement, Mr Jacob later claimed he did not know the location of the site.

He did, and returned by helicopter and secured and removed the wreckage, which he later destroyed, the statement says.

Mr Jacob is expected to make his initial court appearance in the coming weeks.

His pilot's licence was revoked last year.

Mr Jacob's lawyer has not responded to the BBC's request for comment.

Some new info. It looks like DangerTard is going to jail. For Obstructing a Federal Investigation. His plea deal is 18-24 Months.
He should have a good time in prison, seeing as he's a flaming faggot. I wonder if he's still Feeling Adventurous Always, I notice that the shirts are no longer for sale on his site. RIP to your poop chute, DangerTard!

I would bet money that Peter at MentourPilot saw that we have an archive of Trevor's felonious gloating video. At least I'm hopeful!

MentourPilot is one of my favorite youtubers. Videos are fascinating and well researched and he's not a cow. Also, I had no idea Scooby was a pilot now. I used his workout and eating plans well over a decade ago to lose a fuckton of weight.
