Trolling Talk Radio

Hello friends,

So I have a hobby which I only really indulge when drunk after a night out. I like to phone up talk radio stations and fuck around. Pretend I have some unique take on a topic and gradually making up ridiculous stuff. Usually, it's around 1am where only degenerates like myself and some taxi drivers that are listening in.

I would like to start calling up talk radio shows/stations in the US.

Do you know of any that may be suitable for me call in?

pretty much most local AM talk shows around 6pm afterwards are dead air. Try looking up some from the sticks.

I just remember one time my local AM guy was basically bemoaning and begging that somebody call in since he was dry on material. I was thinking, “they’ll just let any nut on?” I didn’t do it because of stage fright but you get my point.

I don't know much about broadcast radio, but there is a whole world of internet radio shows that people like to call in and troll, largely revolving around shows hosted on Blog Talk Radio. Ghost's True Capitalist Radio show used to be the trolling mainstay of the Blog Talk Radio site, but there's a lot more selection out there than that. Religious evangelist shows, black power shows, white nationalist shows, psychic advice shows... there's something for everyone to troll.

Imagine being a radio host who lives in the middle of nowhere Utah, has to work the night shift, probably addicted to caffeine, spends 8-12 hours a day in some shitty office playing shitty music and taking calls from truckers and drunks who make obscure esoteric Internet jokes. Must be interesting.

Ooooh, this sounds fun. We've got a cringy conservative talk station in town, but late night wouldn't work (they go to automated repeats at night, with Coast to Coast on Sundays).

The worst is the Chicks on the Right. They're a bunch of middle aged hags whose only material is one does a decent Bernie Sanders impression. Everything else is shit.

There was a talk show host who basically did the same thing to his own audience, he'd play 2 sometimes even 3 different characters at once (as well as himself as host), often pretending to express some messed opinion... and he'd even take callers to debate his "crazy guest." I'm not sure how anyone fell for it, but some people apparently did.

Would always recommend religious talkshows. Call and inform about conversion i.e. used to be pedophile, now ordained minister. Talk about how you now love having children around you but don't mention lack of sexual thoughts. Makes for fun game. Wait until they realize you still are pedophile.

X Zone Radio will let just about anyone on.

It's a syndicated late night paranormal/conspiracy radio show from Hamilton, Ontario that's essentially a cut-rate version of Coast to Coast AM for local radio stations that can't afford to air Coast to Coast AM.

I don't think either show has call screeners, but X Zone Radio is also good for people who can't get through to Coast to Coast AM due to the amount of callers the latter gets.

Iain. Fucking. Lee. He's on TalkRadio at 10:00 in the evenings on a Monday I think?

He should have a lolcow thread, really. He's a radio host who's gotten into hot water in the past for ludicrous things like lying about falling down a well (after appearing on a talkshow with a neckbrace), being attacked by an owl (came into the studio with a bandaged head), and got into a dispute with Amir Khan over strawberries on the "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" show.

He's known to be rude and abrasive to callers, and often uses his depression as an excuse for his outbursts. Did I mention he's depressed? He'll remind you he's depressed - very often. He used to host on another radio show a few years ago but got sacked after calling a Christian woman a "bigot". Before that he used to host the 11'o'Clock Show about a decade ago and was actually mildly funny. Now he just whinges on Twitter. I remember when he tried doing sketches on Youtube. Very cringey ones.

The problem with @Kieran calling someone like Michael Savage is that:
  1. Michael Savage's calls are screened
  2. He has millions of listeners, so the chances of any one listener getting through are small
  3. He's only "live" at 3-6pm ET/12-3pm PT (and often the third hour and even sometimes part of the second hour is a repeat of the first hour), so it doesn't fit @Kieran's drinking schedule.
The last one is why I suggested X Zone Radio, namely that it's live when @Kieran is drunk.

The screening might be ok... most radio shows here in England screen calls and I still get on... mind you, a US station would be suspicious of an international number.

Those are stunts made in the same vein as Andy Kauffman. I really don't think Iain Lee is anywhere near a lolcow.

Michael Savage would be a great one to troll. He's an ass helmet.
I think his show is getting cut down to an hour or something now and the rest is going to the internet.

I really hate that guy so hopefully this decision is the result of everyone else hating him too.

I think, best case scenario, even if you got past Michael Savage's call screener, you'd likely still be on hold for an hour or two so a prank call to Michael Savage from the U.K. could be expensive.

Another thing to keep in mind about the top-tier syndicated conservative talk shows (i.e. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham) is that they all have a 15 to 30 second delay for profanity and pranksters so prank callers usually don't even get heard by the audience even when they get through to the host.

But even if only one-tenth of one percent of Michael Savage's listeners feel compelled to call on any given day, that's still around a thousand people you'd be competing with for a handful of caller slots. And if you wanted to talk to him when you're drunk, you'd have to be drunk by around 8:15pm your time to coincide with when he starts to take calls.

I've heard a caller launch into an (apparently) earnest Biblical defense of slavery on a local show, I don't know how you could even differentiate reality from Poe's Law after that.

IIRC his defense seemed rather Gorean in logic, about having a "worthy" master who takes care of his slaves. I dunno what he thought a slave pleb was supposed to do if his master was an unworthy cad. Maybe plantation owners were divinely appointed like kings, :story: I dunno.
