As I get older and more frownier, I tend to play less and less games that involve other people and/or have a lot of action in them. Nowadays I play more games that allow me to get into my zen and calm down.
That's why I want start a thread for specific type of games that probably your dad played or would have played. Games where the action is slow and methodical, and where gameplay a isn't pain in the ass.

Favorable mentions:
  • Euro Truck Simulator 2 - As the name says, a game about trucking in Europe where your mission is making a successful trucking company. It has a map that fairly realistically represents the whole european continent. Has a lot of workshop/modding content.
  • Elite Dangerous - A space game in which you fly a spaceship in a 1:1 representation of the whole milky way galaxy. You can engage in: space combat, space trucking and space exploration.
  • Starsector - An RPG space game. Watch this.
  • Hardspace: Shipbreaker - A game where you dismantle spaceships.
I know those titles are very well known, but I do still recommend playing them.
I would also like to know what kind of truckercore games do YOU play? Leave your recommendations below.

The Long Drive scratched this itch for me for a few months. You just have to embrace it’s indie eastern euro jank vibes (and get it on sale, because it’s not getting any more polished than it already is).
ETS2 (along with it’s sister game ATS) is undoubtedly the king in this genre.
Farming Simulator scratches a very similar spot with it’s shut-up-and-plow grindy field work. Pirate it though, the retail version is DLC-infested overpricedness.

If we are talking zen, I would probably mention Total War. Even on legendary, it's kinda relaxed. Just build shit and watch armies clash. You can even skip the battles. Otherwise, Morrowind is pretty relaxing, just walking around soaking in the atmosphere. Age of Empires / Mythology also fits, just build stuff. Same with Anno 1404 or any other one from the series. Probably most city builders like Cities Skylines or Rollercoaster Tycoon fit. 4X stuff by nature is slower paced. War gaming is probably what a lot of Dad's play. Unity of Command, Panzercorps etc.

Don't forget the Naomi-era Sega arcade game, 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker and its geographically accurate two minute drive from New York City to Key West. I like that there are fully-branded Texacos, Denny's, and Holiday Inns along the very short stages.

It got a lesser-known Naomi 2 sequel The King of Route 66 which takes about three times as long to play through in the arcade compared to the first game,, and I think the Playstation 2 version is even longer with added cutscenes and missions. It loses the product placement and, therefore, some of the first game's character.

foxhole is kino but its a second job game i dont play it anymore because everytime i do i end up playing for 12 hours every day for weeks

I have installed Promods for ETS2 not so long ago, I am so amazed about how big and detailed the map is thanks to that mod. If you haven't heard of it or don't know if it's worth installing it, I highly recommend it. Check it out.
While I am bumping this thread, what's your favorite trucks in ETS/ATS? I fucking love Scania and MAN trucks.

I have heard of it. My irl friends even recommended it to me. I know that it's about ww1, but other than that, I know nothing. Is it actually good?

Oh yeah, I use a bunch of map mods to expand the areas I can drive. It's crazy some of the places you can end up driving. There's a mod where you can literally drive in both North and South Korea.

Yeah the modern Scanias are pretty neat.

like rust and tarkov the games pulls you in like a second job, everything being erased every month or so. its not really good for short sessions because you really get invested in a front line and will need to constantly supply it or progress will be lost, atleast it is for me, you can still just truck for a few hours its still fun to run logistics or you can join a clan and communicate with people on different ends of the supply chain. for a few days i made myself mayor of a port town and would direct people to it's connecting fronts
Its one of the most social games ive ever played, for instance if you want to use an artillery piece you'll need someone to run shells to you and someone with binoculars to sight for you, you cant ping so he'll need to tell you how far you are off and where to adjust, everyone is running around yelling at eachother, really gets you into the mindset and its super fun.
My favourite moment of so far was getting ambushed on a supply run and diverting a convoy to my front by standing in the middle of the road and yelling at them to help with the resupply effort.
