This is the fucking answer. They’re dying already. They’re under medical care. Why are people so upset about this?
 
The alcohol is likely going to be kept out of reach of the residents in some sort of storage area. Most places will allow drinks but limit it per restrictions with medications or “one glass a day.” In hospice you can literally get a glass of wine or a bottle of beer prescribed. It’s advised if you’re drinking since the nurse can then adjust medication so alcohol isn’t going to impact your pain management meds.

It sounds like it’s going to be to allow residents to socialize in a varied way. Something that almost every resident in a nursing home setting suffers from. Isolation leads to depression and faster decline, and is a rather ignominious way to go for the people we’re supposed to be respecting as our elders.

I guess technically they can own guns in a retirement home but it'd have to be in a storage unit somewhere else that they'd never access because they can't wipe their own ass + facility policy most definitely will not let you own a fucking ar-15 in a care home haha.

I thought it was common knowledge that laws already exist to keep guns out of the hands of patients with mental incapacity but I guess I was wrong there. I was talking more broadly about rights in general, he’s the one who brought guns into it.

A glass of wine or a bottle of beer is not going to “fuck their brain up more.” This is a law that would allow the responsible adults to have a drink with friends and family from time to time in an environment where they can be monitored. If anything that alone is an improvement from people sneaking it away or drinking out of vision. One of my local facilities has a wine tasting day every other week where the give residents that opt in a flight of wine and assorted cheeses. It’s all monitored. It’s all assessed and it’s allows residents who have difficulty socializing to socialize.

One of my patients was concerned one day about needing to talk to the nurse. She wanted to have a beer with family, but was unsure. I contacted the nurse and she already had a script to allow for a PRN glass of wine so it was fine. It was all kosher. Her response? “Having a small glass of wine with my family during dinner is what keeps me feeling normal.” For many it’s an opportunity to get some of their life back. A retirement home shouldn’t be a prison.

It's something that I had to do that I was putting off. The other night my girlfriend had to respond to a burglary and she ended up being there until 6 so for the past few days my sleep schedule has been all messed up. This was the only way I could definitively get it back on track.
I work from home now and I'm working through this pot of coffee so I should be good. I remember staying up being way easier when I was younger, just like hangovers. :story:
Edit: also my error, I'm not going to end up sleeping for 36 hours I think it's been 24 so far. I can't even math correctly right now.
