Law Trump: Take Guns First, Due Process Second - Those Who Trade Freedom for Security Deserve and Receive Neither

President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.

“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

Trump was responding to comments from Vice President Pence that families and local law enforcement should have more tools to report potentially dangerous individuals with weapons.

“Allow due process so no one’s rights are trampled, but the ability to go to court, obtain an order and then collect not only the firearms but any weapons,” Pence said.

"Or, Mike, take the firearms first, and then go to court," Trump responded.

Trump met with lawmakers on Wednesday to discuss gun laws and school safety in the aftermath of a Feb. 14 shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., that left 17 people dead.

The suspected shooter, Nikolas Cruz, was able to legally purchase the AR-15 reportedly used in the shooting despite numerous calls to law enforcement about his unstable behavior.

I don't know why people would think that a former democrat from NYC would think highly of gun rights.

It'd be interesting to see which congressmen vote on a bill that violates due process, though. I don't see how this would've stopped the shooting, though. Despite having many incidents, he still passed Obama's background check.

I'm sure all those Second Amendment people will be glad when the jackbooted thugs kick in their doors and steal their guns with no warrants. Hey all those triggered SJWs were worth it.

"Fuck due process" pretty much is a fascist attitude, and it's not like he's even being secretive. He is literally explicitly saying let's ignore the Constitution and just do whatever.
Agreed. I meant more like would they support a gun-grab from this guy after years of saying he's going to holocaust the Mexicans or whatever. Do they actually believe it? I don't understand people believing he's going to do genocide AND wanting him to confiscate civilian guns. It's confusing to me. I mean, some people thinking Hitler had a good is one of the primary reasons I'm keeping mine. It'd be really, really difficult to pull off with an armed populace.

People like to scream about the Democrats around here, but the truth is that the vast majority of them wouldn't vote for this, either because they have a lot of gun owners in their district, or because it's a clear violation of due process. Career politicians have an almost religious regard for the sanctity of bureaucratic processes, because they've spent their entire adult lives navigating them.

I've always noticed there is a difference between what Trump says and what he's willing to sign into law.

The former is his opinion, the latter is what counts.

He usually does the former because he wants to air his personal feelings or troll his opposition in opposing him so he gets them to make his job easier, and sometimes it's a mix of both.

He was a Democrat, but his position that have had the force of law behind them have been pretty Republican, so I can't say for sure what his end game is with this latest commentary, but my guess is little of column A, little of column B.

Does anybody have any word from the twitter reee-sphere how they are trying to spin this as negative?

You guys realize joe Biden was more pro gun than Trump?

Ah what a shit show. I got gun loving pro trump buddies that are more confused now than a tranny standing in front of gender specific bathrooms.

A 90s New York Democrat wanting to confiscate guns? Imagine my shock.
I'm more excited for the mental gymnastics that /r/The_Donald will go through to justify being OK with violating due process.

Edit: It appears to be a split between "What the fuck, Donald?" and "273th dimensional backgammon"

He has done this a thousand times so far, why anyone would think this means he is actually going to go through with it boggles my mind.

It is fun watching him troll conservatives for a change though.

“GRMUMBLE GRUMP IS AN NRA PUPPET WHO WANTS TO HAND OUT GUNS TO CRIMINALS!”

“GRINDIL GROOP IS A FASCIST GUN GRABBER WHO WANT’S TO SHRED OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TO BEAR ARMS!”

I’m still convinced that Trump is a really elaborate troll who just wants to see how crazy he can make people go.

he's actually just retarded and says retarded things because of it. the meltdown on this /theDonald thread is absolutely epic.

For God's sake he did this exact, same thing with DACA only one month ago and these people still flip their lids at the drop of a hat, because Trump maybe possibly just-a-bit might have perhaps alluded to something they don't immediately enjoy. I've been trying desperately to give these people the benefit of the doubt, but at the tiniest provocation even Trump's own base collectively shits themselves and starts to slam their heads against the wall. With each passing day I'm increasingly thankful that Kushner's strategy aimed for an Electoral victory rather than trying to shoe-horn one through a popular vote majority, because holy Christ the average voter is a fucking idiot.

yea but we're not used to having the POTUS being one as well. Think about it the POTUS actually said the federal government should just ignore the constitution and take away guns wily nily.

Some Trump supporters are finally realizing he's an empty vessel today. The dude has no principles, he isn't "trolling": he just says dumb shit because he's dumb. There's no "4D chess". Some on the /'theDonald today are having hard time coming to grips with that fact. It's like no shit, you didn't see this coming? As others have said, this guy was a liberal NYC democrat before he was the conquering alt-right and GOPe (begrudgingly) hero.

I would not say he is dumb. I would just say that he is not exactly what they dream him up to be.
