This is fake news. The site itself says you don't need to register if you've filed a return. Also, it says not to register if you make enough money to necessitate filing a tax return. Did you even read the instructions on the website OP?

Yeah I read the instructions but you missed the point. If you filed your return through a THIRD PARTY (i.e. tax services), the IRS likely does not have your direct deposit information on file, instead, they have a temporary account on file that is opened up by said third party to facilitate the transfer of your funds (based on calls with Taxslayer and HR Block who also confirmed this). If you didn't file this way or your return is 'self-filed' directly by you then there's nothing to worry about.

Also, why does OP keep saying "2018" instead of 2019?

It's only for the 'non-filer' form since 2018 is what it asked for.

Overall, if you don't feel you need to do this, then don't. I got off the phone as I said earlier with two companies and they told me the same thing: "We're waiting on guidance from the IRS, but it is likely if you filed with us you'll get a paper check." So I thought I'd bring it up.
