Trumps a good speaker even if this was kind of an easy one for him, Joe gave him plenty to work with in the first 2 months, and there wasn't really anything shocking/surprising outside maybe making clear he's sticking with the GOP for the long haul.
Which is...fine, but the GOP needs to really get it's collective heads out the sand and start actually acting like active opposition, rather than leaving it to the select few willing to stick their necks out as well.
"Rah rah he's not president anymore why should it matter" - Opposition to the ruling class is a good thing, even if it's a party you like. Has been very true for the UK where the Labour vote totally collapsed last December and then replaced socialist grampa with professional fence sitter. It means there is literally nobody outside the Conservatives who will actually kick Boris's ass for his Covid response, Starmer does try - but gives off the air of not exactly having any better ideas regardless. His mistress turned wife has taken on that role with disastrous results in-party, but that's for the Britbong politics thread.
It's only going to work if the Republicans are willing to actually fight with some actual conviction and do more than just show up for votes and object that way. Like with yesterday when, after voting against the stimulus bill. Should of been getting word asap out there what their objections were rather than leaving it so dems can write the reason for them.
They still don't really get this, so at the moment I don't know if I buy Trump's claim that they can start clawing it back for the mid-terms. They need to do a lot more work to convince voters than they currently are doing and have it seem less like Trump's doing all the legwork while the R's panic or end up dragged along for the ride
