Premise 1: We’ve seen platforms use techniques such as ragebait and hot (retard often libshit lenient takes) notorious for sensationalist interviews that might even extend to controversial figures, such as individuals with a reprehensible history but that drives eyeballs and clicks on articles, to grab attention and fuel engagement.
Premise 2: There are outlets out there that are undoubtedly better for a journalist ecosystem that isn't driven by sugardaddy USAids money. The one that always comes to mind is Substack and Medium. There are also more formal ones that let people have wiggleroom for memes, opinions and even other hobbies like minds.com (and very partially/tangentially a bunch of fediverse instances)
Now I wanna ask, whether the raw energy and polarized discussions generated by such tactics can be harnessed productively for OUR communities. Could these very methods be repurposed to advance meaningful debate and innovation within the FOSSchizos? How might we recalibrate the shock value that drives these clickbait platforms into a force for thoughtful discourse and community building? Could and/or should we use Yellow journalism, ragebait/hot takes and click-bait like tactics to drive more people into these spaces? These news orgs and social media pages already exist anyway, why not might as well just take their audience and move them into a more productive / less pozzed by design space?
