Advance Wars invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom​

I wanted to do another lets play that had some viewer interaction, so I decided to talk my friend into playing Advance wars with me (A monster a match) on custom pre deployed maps to niggerrig a Rome Total war meets Fire emblem Grand Strategy game. I am going to run the interaction by having the participants start as Colonels in charge of Brigades and move your way up as the campaign moves along, Like in Legend of the Galactic Heroes when Reinhard starts as a Commodore, but by the end of it, his followers are brass of his empires military apparatus.

THE PLOT​

The Mushroom Kingdom (Spain) and The Kingdom of Sarasaland (Portugal) have announced that they are uniting and Forming the Pasta Empire, Hyrule (France) disgruntled by this development has invaded the Peninsula with the aims of regime change, Mario has called upon all able bodied Mushrooms to join in the defense of the homeland
Remember boys this is what you are fighting for.
Hyrule's Army starts the war with a budget of $326,000 affording it;
4 Tank Units
12 Light Tank Units
20 Motorized Infantry Units
6 Artillery Units
4 Anti-Air Units
6 Anti-Tank Units
12 Infantry Units
and with a D20 every seven days for produced equipment.
With a budget of $178,000 the Shroom Defense Force is able to field:

10 Infantry Units
and a d12 every week in production
Daisy's Militia has a budget of $133,000 mustering;

HOW YOU FIT IN THIS​

Brigades are going to be made up of four units, you will place the kind of Brigade you want to lead by using one of the Icons Bellow, after that I will capture Pokemon in Fire Red and Assign their Nature to the volunteers so that we have a diversity of commanders. it is first come first serve for a given type

Infantry: as a Colonel in the Infantry you are the beating heart of the army, The Majority of men recruited from this point on will be in Infantry Units

Motorized: Motorcades and Motorized units are cheaper than tanks, and provide support and recon for operations, a Colonel of a Motorized Brigade will be a common sight on the field.

Armor: although tough to produce, Armor is a game changer on the battle field, 14 year olds every where will remember the name of any Colonel in charge of an Armor Brigade (a light tank brigade cost 28,000 to field, a real tank brigade 64,000)

Artillery: King of the Battlefield reportedly, Napoleon got his stripes in the Artillery, (in hindsight I should have invested heavily into Artillery from the word go) An Artillery Colonel has probably the best odds of survival

Anti-Air: If it flies it dies, The guy playing Hyrule will eventually figure out that Air units can be supplied by APC's and just shit on our broke asses. but a brigade of AA will save the day, a media loving colonel would never miss this chance

April 3rd-7th 2002​

On April 2nd 2002, Link De Kokiri, Marshal of Hyrule's forces declared his intention to march on Peach Palace, Generalissimo Mario Mario sends Army Group I under the command of Major General Bob Chipman (Senior) and stations it in county 8-2
Bob Chipman (Senior) is considered a younger gentleman, at 41, he was elevated to a senior officer after serving as commander of Peach's lifeguard for 4 years and a lifeguard the 8 years before that, thinking that Link plans to roll through the country with a motorized division or two he stacks his army for that occasion.
8 Infantry Units (staffed by two Toadies)
4 Anti-Tank Units (commanded by Toadsworth the elder)
4 Anti-Air Units (lead by Peach's nephew Noah the Duke of world 8 )


Bob opts to have the Infantry split into four pieces; one deployment guarding Gordon pass, the main Eastern highway into the Mushroom Kingdom. two other deployments keep their eyes on the smaller flanking mountain roads in, the last quarter are with the other two brigades stationed around Cloud Castle.

April 3rd Recon discovers that they are not in fact facing Motorized Infantry and APC's, but tank brigades (my roommates serves as a ref allowing us to deploy without knowing what the other is going to send out), Bob gives the order for the men to scatter and hide until Razorfist can arrive with Army Group II in seven days.

West Flank is spotted by the Hyrulians and made into mince meat, Waka Town is abandoned, Motorized brigades are super effective against plain infantry. They also have the best sight in the game dispelling the fog of war the farthest.

On the highway things go no better.

The flight continues, the three units to the west are to rendezvous with the main force and hold Cloud Castle till reinforcements arrive, while the three to the east are expected to hide south of the river for the time being(Tifa also falls to Hyrule).

Bob wants to turtle up in a ball, but the Duke wants to have the Infantry hold the city while his AA brigade lies in waiting to counter attack, Toadsworth the elder takes half his men and goes to try and help the retreating men deal with the Motorized Units

on April 4th two of the three Infantry Units are wiped out, with the last one on its last legs.

He opened with a Tank Unit, Bob has nothing that can hurt a MBT at this moment, that flank is securely Hyrule's.

On April 5th the Shroomic Forces braced for Combat, but Bob was not ready for the sweep that occurred, Toadsworth is dead, and his men are in a panic, the front guard and eastside were also struck pretty hard, another move like that and the Army group would surely route.

Noah orders one of his units to go bail the front guard out, with any luck he spread his armor thin and this guy wont have back up.

Blue Toad manages to make it to the hiding place, they won't be any help right now.

By 16:00 April 6th, Cloud Castle was the only settlement not captured by Hyrule in 8-2. The plan being that Army group 2 will catch the Hylians in a bad spot on the 10th while they are sieging the castle and hopefully turn the tides.

April 7th-17th 2002​

"Linsey when they bury me, please don't spit on my grave"

Motorized Hylians take out the three Infantry Units North of Cloud Castle, Refueling stations in Waka Town and Tifa have been set up by the Hylians, allowing them to repair and supply units very close to the field.

No contact is made the next day, Bob's plan to ball up seems to force Link to regroup his forces for a second attack, Prince Noah plans to counter push for Waka Town when Major General Daniel Harris (Razorfist) arrives with four brigades.

On April 10th Second Army Group lead by Daniel Harris arrives on the scene with most of our Motorized divisions and the entirety of our light tanks.
"I suggest to you Hylian fasco-commies to not retreat, but simply advance in the other directions before I send you to hell, God FUKKKING SPEEED" 9:47 AM April 10th, he had been working on that line for about a week, the message was broadcasted over a public line, though it seems the Hylians had spent the 9th preparing for a counter attack.

Harris brings with him, Jew Wario (he is really good friends with Noah, just over look his preference for teens) leading the West Flank, Yatzee (there was a time where Yatzee was the superior officer to Bob Chipman many moons ago) leading 3rd Armor in the Eastern Flank, Daniel keeps The Ramones and Elric of Melniboné close to him having them lead 1st and 2nd Armor brigade.

Yatzee initially thinking they send a sole Tank unit to keep this flank covered was surprised to find two Light Tank units covering its flank (catching a unit off guard), this greatly hindered his assault, with it largely sputtering out having failed to do considerable damage to the Tank unit or the Light Tank reserve unit.

Noah worried that Jew Wario is in danger surges the Hylian lines dealing considerable damage, Jew Wario sets up a line and sends a unit to scout the region for any rear guard reinforcements from the North or East.

Daniel unleashes a storm on the Hylians, two of the three Light Tank brigades are wiped out, the Tank unit can not hope to escape the more nimble Light Tanks, leaving them no option but to stand and deliver.

The Hylian light tank unit on the West flank takes out one of our Anti-Air Units, and hits another one pretty hard, but the writings on the wall, they are going to have to fall back.

Hyrules Tank units strike back hard, but the map shows that two of the three fronts favor the Mushroom Kingdom.

Six Hylian units are wiped out in a single push on April 11th as the cavalry pour in, including an irreplaceable Tank unit, Western Waka Town is liberated after Noah stomps the recovering Motorized Infantry nursing in the city.

In the Field though some Motorized Units have maintained moral and have not routed, the Last part of the city under Hylian control is held by a Light Tank Unit, the Flank commander seems to be holding out for relief most likely.

Fighting in Tifa heavily favors Hyrule as our tanks get eaten alive, on the Western front, Hyrule fails in counter attacking Noah's Anti-Air, and Jew Wario Strikes into the border town of Farron. The Tifa offensive is abandoned after mounting deaths, including Yatzee. The battered force is ordered to regroup with Blue Toads Brigade South of the river.

Major General Chipman (Senior) makes plans to have a sweeping attack on Ordin the Hylian city where Link is operating from. Bob wants Infantry to cross the mountains at Farron while Mechanized Units attack the front he plans to have Prince Noah cover Farron and the Western pass.

All's shitty on the Western Front, Hyrules only Armor Unit is destroyed, as well as a complete front Collapse.

After sacking Farron Noah opts to pull back, as to not lock his forces in a narrow ravine where they can be picked off. The fighting has stopped as the fronts stabilize, Hyrule still occupies Tifa, but pushing forward is not something they are going to dedicate resources to now.

@BanquetMegaBowl : Colonel: Foreign born like Spurdo, Mario Mario knew Banquets cousin in Brooklyn, and promised him a cushy job with a pension when he immigrated, his proud and arrogant nature paints the perfect picture of the model American. He was given an Infantry commission as it allows him to collect the pay of the men during times of peace, he just so happened to be placed in Army Group 5 when the war broke out. ( 22 years old)

5th Army group is called upon on April 5th, after filling the conscripts for the Army Group, the Commander is one Robert Chipman @Randall Fragg (Junior), a Brigadier General (same rank as Noah and Toadsworth), his officers are Colonel @AntiSchwuletteAktion Commander of 2nd Motorized Infantry Brigade, Colonel @FunPosting101 Spurdo Sparde Commander of 6th Armored Cavalry Brigade, Colonel @Zaryiu2 Zaryiu II Commander of 3rd Artillery Brigade, and @BanquetMegaBowl Commander of 23rd Infantry Brigade.

On May 3rd a transmission is signaled to Shallow Lake Fort, it reads that Hylians have landed on the Eastern coast of 9-2 and have captured Yoshi Beach and Shy Shore, The Local Duke, Yoshi, has a private force of his people. Yoshi's are second class citizens in the Mushroom Kingdom and are forced to field their own army. Lucky for them 5th army was stationed on the island to prepare for a naval invasion of the Hylian Mainland.

Bob splits his forces into two, having Zaryiu and Aktion taking the open fields of the south so that Aktion can flank the Hylians and Zaryiu can cross the lake and set up his guns behind the Yoshi frontline, and having Banq and Spurdo march north through the rough terrain directly reinforce the locals.

First contact is made, the Hylians have no trouble pumping out Light Tanks it seems as they probably have at least four units deployed, Duke Yoshi (my other friend who wanted to play for a round) is not as experienced at this game and puts his anti-tank units up front.

Spurdo charges ahead with his Light Tanks, leaving his motorized units behind with Banq as he marches his men along. Zaryiu plans to take an APC, the Anti-Tank unit and the Artillery unit when he crosses the river, with the remaining five units taking charging forward under Aktion. Bob having been told that the Hylians have tanks orders Zaryiu and Aktion to stay on the southern corridor.

Not seeing the Artillery or the other Anti-Tank unit, the Hylians walk straight into a trap and lose a Light Tank unit.

Where things stand at the end of May 4th.

Aktion and Zaryiu form a defensive line protecting the crossing, while the Hylians seem to fall back to regroup. The plan is to inch forward and force the Hylians to either fall back or attack the front line and take heavy losses. Spurdo opts to once again split his forces, having a Light Tank unit travel south to fortify the southern front.

The southern advance eventually forces Hyrule to opt for a full pull out, Robert worried that a charge would end in a reversal of fortunes decides to let them pull out. On May 9th Hyrule had fully pulled out of 9-2 and news reaches the 5th Army group of the collapsing front in world 3-1.

Army Group 3 and Luigi's expeditionary force are crushed in 3-1 and flee with their tails down. (I lost my artillery before I could deal with the Tank units making defeat unavoidable). Army groups 4 and 6 group up to try and hold back this offensive while Army group 5 is on route.

sorry we did not enter combat proper, next time we are going to be enter a battle that is seven days in, and will have a better chance at obtaining glory and prestige.

May 19th-May 25th 2002​

In world 3-3 the Hyalines advance and had largely crushed Army Groups 4 and 6 by the 18th, @Randall Fragg and commanders @FunPosting101 @AntiSchwuletteAktion @BanquetMegaBowl @Zaryiu2 are tasked with holding the Advance back for another week for Army Groups 7 & 8 to finish forming up and for the Sarasaland forces to regroup.

On the 15th Zary transferred his Anti-Tank unit over to Army Group 7 for an additional Artillery unit, The scene is pretty ugly, Army group 6 Commander Brigadier general Kooper is in the field leading the troops, while Army Group 4 Commander Major General AVGN is holding Fort Chocolate.
"Shit, we still need to hold that line Kooper, if they break through it is over for the Mushroom Kingdom"
"Alright, 1st Tank Unit, pull up on the south side of the hills, we will need our armor to pierce through their frontlines when we counter attack"
"Alright men, Aktion and Spurdo, I want you two to advance to the front ASAP, Spurdo I want you to leave your Motorized Infantry to cover the APC's and Artillery, Zary I want you to march the rear guard up with me, Banq, we need you to hold the rear with two of your units, this ones for real"

Kooper waits for the Hylians to make another push, to his surprise they seem to have ran out of steam.

On the 20th Aktion meets with AVGN, while Spurdo rushes to join the formation.

The Hylians assault is fierce, they plan to eat the losses and push through our defenses, they could have easily crushed 4th and 6th Army groups within Seven days if they had used this full force, they must have clearly planned to bleed us here rather than have to face harsh resistance in every world.

Falling short of its goal (destroying the Tank unit), Kooper reeled for the beating of a life time.

The Hylian Commander breaks the north wing and faces two units from Aktions Motorized brigades, the two units lump into one after getting stomped by the light tanks (that out numbered them two to one), Kooper is killed by a shell in the fray. His subordinates are panicked

Spurdo orders over the radio for a strong counter attack, Spurdo leading from the front plans to force the Artillery to pull back and give us some breathing room, Aktion has the Motorized Infantry lined up to block the light tanks, he tells the men to expect heavy loses, Zary and the rear line reach the front.
"We aren't getting paid by the hour, GO GO GO"
"Think about it like this men, all the now open pussy in Fort Chocolate will be yours for the picking"
"We are dhe vanguard, if we falder all of mushroomdom will falder"

Spurdo who was in the front is captured. Yellow paraKoopa is killed. Aktion, Zaryiu II and Red Koopa elect to fall back to the fort, they only have to hold out for another 37 hours. Bob and James order the fort into a full lockdown, it is what saved Bob senior after all.

Red Koopa is placed in charge of the APC's on the south front, Aktion holds the north. Village of Rolling Rock is abandoned to the Hylians. Zaryiu II wants to rain a hail of Artillery on the Hylians as a last ditch effort to make them easy pickings for the reinforcements arriving on the 26th.

James wants the men to form up in front of the fort to distract them another day, Bob believes that a pullout is in order. James wants to hold the fort so that the enemy can not use it to hole up and wait for their own reinforcements, Bob argues that they will pursue and that will let the reinforcements pincer them.

James pulling rank demands that the men follow his orders leading (fucked up a few Screen shots sorry) to his death when the Hylians take the Central Command Center, Bob then orders Zaryiu to pull men south while him and Aktion hold what's left for the next 7 hours.

They ignore Zaryiu entirely and focus on Fort Chocolate.
The Hylian Commander announces something over the public radio
"People of the Mushroom Kingdom, it is with great sorrow that we have invaded your hearth and home, but when those who wish to halt the path of history, like those contemptable Mario brothers who wish to steal away those rights and freedoms we bleed for in order to regain their lost privilege's, they have indeed committed an ultimate crime, through strong arm they plan to drag Mii back to the luddite ages of Famicon, Mario Mario, if you art so brave, come and face us in the field."
(having shown me just what he had on the field, I opted not to pursue 3-3 right now)
Following that announcement Kefei the Gale offered a prisoner exchange as well as a 7 day armistice to celebrate the coming of Summer.

Spurdo rolled a 6 and a 3 on the d6 and then an 11 on the d12, very lucky

Starting 5:47 PM on May 25th 2002, a seven day armistice is signed as well as the release of over 4000 POW's from both sides. 4th,5th, and 6th Army Group is consolidated into Army Group 3 (Army Groups 1 and 2 consolidated, and Army groups 3 and 7 consolidated into the new 2nd Army group, with 8 and partial raised 9 going to form the new army group 4 to match the sizes of Hyrules divisions.

Spurdo is awarded the Rank of Brigadier General, in the two months of fighting the old guard has been shaken up, younger men are now taking their rapidly freeing seats. Robert Chipman II will remain his superior and they are sent to stop the renewed Advance of Kefei into 2-4, Link still plans to push to the Castle just for the Moral loss from taking the Capital it seems.



Deployed along with a Sarasian Skeleton force 3rd Army is tasked with holding Whomp Fortress home to Princess Claudia (the butter faced cousin of both Daisy and Peach). Spurdo is given Command to 5th Armor Brigade as well as Claudia's two lifeguard Brigades, the terrians is shitty, and the rapids make it impossible for Kefei to take another route through. Zaryiu II, Banq, and Aktion are given Brigades suited to their skill set of course.
