Ubisoft Sellout - Bankruptcy Speedrun Any% Thread

I have fond memories of Assassin's Creed, Black Flag. Played the fuck out it, loved the sea battles. I'd been avoiding Ubisoft as I'd heard their DRM was awful. I only gave it a try because it came free with my graphics card.

Fucking hell, the DRM was absolute bullshit and I hated it. Just absolute aids that wanted to linger on your PC in the background constantly...the client was shit too. Just an awful experience. Never used them again, not even for free.

If they'd allowed it to be in Steam without launching their client, I'd probably have dipped back into it over the years like I do with Skyrim. As it is, I haven't returned once I completed it.

Rayman was in a similar position, where people only really cared about the first two games
Never liked the second game. Took a RADICAL direction that I wasn't too fond of... like if Tim Burton made a Rayman game.

The first one however I have VERY fond memories of on The Sega Saturn. I've spent countless hours on this game as a teen because it punches you in the face, kicks your teeth in, stomps on your feet, and cramps up your fingers. But I fucking love it! Old-skool platforming at its best with gorgeous visuals and soundtrack (although they are short 1 minute tunes... wish they were longer). One of those games you have to harvest lives in the beginning levels if you're going to get as far as the last level.

It'd be better if MS/Sony would be able to buy Ubisoft. It could strengthen their subscription services. Even piecemeal with each game.

Eh, Anno 1800 is pretty good. Or rather was before they kept shoving more shit into it with yearly passes. It's no doubt niche anyway and you're playing it to optimize the fuck out of any square of buildable land you got and when it's a finished game that's well and good but when they shove some new mechanic crap into it three times a year well you better like starting over or tearing up your entire production chain to put in tractors or some shit to get that top efficiency again. Well that and also DRM, turned me off Anno and Heroes of Might and Magic for good. Not to mention Ghost Recon Breakpoint fucking sucked and if I want good Ghost Recon I can just play Wildlands that doesn't need their launcher, to be online at all, and not fucking Battleye that's mandatory with Breakpoint. Rest in piss Ubisoft, may your franchises be picked up by someone less shit.

That pissed me off. A full on AC game set in China would be really cool and unique. Instead it's relegated to mobile shit while they try and inevitably fail to compete with Ghost of Tsushima.
I'd want another Assassin Creed similar to Syndiate. Something smaller, but with the scope of III.

I'm still holding out for another decent The Division game (and maybe for the The Division Netflix movie still gets made).
Speaking of The Division, it's funny that they are now working on a new season of content for The Division 2 after letting the game slowly die. It would be nice if they fix most issues like the random crash-to-desktop.

Yeahhhhhh, you can tell the devs though they were up shit creek after COVID hit, finished the story, ready to go into maintenance mode.......and then got told you got to work on this for 2+ more years.

They're probably salty that someone just straight up did what people were begging them to do for like 14 years and blew anything they've made since Brotherhood out of the water. They'll look like idiots, because Ubisoft can't make good things anymore.

Ubisoft will probably be dismantled but there's a good chance it will just end up in a bigger fish (EA, Microsoft, WB), or split between them.

ubisoft has been shit since they avoided that hostile take over a decade ago. in return for shareholders not letting the f2p mobile company take it over ubisoft was forced to basically go through with what that company was planning to do instead.

between most of their best employees fucking off because of rape accusations and the forced DIE employees and f2p elements in their games they've been shit for awhile. ubisoft were the first to have a successful GaaS game with rainbow six. and the last half decade has been spent trying to turn the rest of their IPs into similar attempts.

the last 3 AC games have been rip offs of the witcher basically. the new "mainline" game is basically something a b-team cooked up but they're launching it quick and soon because they're that desperate for sales. this game is reportedly smaller than rogue/liberation. which were fucking PSP games. Essentially its a DLC sized game we'll be paying $100 for. the other AC games announced could also be extremely small, people forget that AC has had web browser games and mobile phone games.

@The Last Stand

i hated Syndicate, don't know why but it just felt too easy, the best time i had was when i went to the end game areas and was forced to get gud at stealthing, the missions were too samey and easy overall as well. i enjoy what they were going with but its clear someone from up high forced them to either release unfinished or dumb it down. the gender exclusive missions and play styles worked but they needed more seperation.

also the city was too big, as were the buildings, you were basically forced to grapple and carriage ride everywhere. it also made assassinating too easy because you could smoke bomb and grapple out of npc range like fucking batman.

also they fucked over the modern day bits so hard its insane. not that they were that good but its crazy how much time and thought there was to the modern day lore.

they should have gotten away from the modern day bits after desmond died. considering ac4 was about an ancestor it easily could have just been a diary and used that as the modern day. they clearly abandoned the "buttons correspond to hands and head and legs" bit they had going on.

this also plays into another part, its been too easy since 2. chain kills have fucked over the franchise as have guns. it was especially obnoxious in syndicate when you can unload a 6 shooter and finish off even the bosses. even in unity it as semi-hilarious that i could one shoot kill but somehow no enemy could.

this game has the same problem as dishonored, instead of being super difficult like thief and forcing stealth, it was easier and easier to brawl it up with each game.

Ubisoft always been a bloated publisher that had no focus on quality in most of its history beside some great bangers during the 6th and 7th generation. After seeing what was being promoted in the last Beyond Good and Evil trailer, I am okay if it goes under.

I thought this thread would be bitching about Ubisoft basically revoking ownership of old DLCs (/entire games?). (If you don't know, they're shutting down a heap of servers, which means they will not be able to authenticate your purchase, which means your DLC will be unavailable)

I liked some of their more recent games, but they'll (hopefully) still be playable after Ubisoft gets dragged behind the shed and, uhh, declares bankruptcy.

That's the weird thing, there is an Assassin's Creed China. It's a side-scrolling platformer. It was given away for free in China too, I personally used a VPN to get it.

Speaking of which, it's been a while since they gave away a free game. It used to be more frequent before.

I know about AC China. There was also AC India and Russia. But a full on AC game set in a chinese dynasty would be super cool. You get lots of things to parkour on, tons of different weapons, shit tons of assassinations and wars, etc. It's the perfect place for an AC game.

But instead they're going to make a quarter assed mobile game and try to take on Ghost of Tsushima, which I doubt they'll be able to do.

Couldn't agree more, it seems that even guillemots know that their company is slowly dissolving itself no matter what they do and they don't want chink overlords, that i can respek.
