There's a closed beta for Skull & Bones this week-end. I want to see how bad it is.
Also the standard edition of The Crew Motorfest is 50% off on the Timmy Tencent Store.

Ubisoft have delisted and are going to shut down the servers to The Crew 1 on March 31, 2024.
Today, The Crew 1, including all its editions, and virtual currency packs, will be delisted from all online stores. The game will remain playable until March 31st, 2024, for all The Crew 1 owners. After this date, the servers will be shut down, which means that the game will not be accessible anymore on any platform, including PC / Xbox 360 / Xbox One / PlayStation 4 / Amazon Luna and Ubisoft+.

We understand this may be disappointing for players still enjoying the game, but it has become a necessity due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing constraints. Decommissioning a game, and especially our first one, is not something we take lightly. Our goal remains to provide the best action driving gameplay experience for players and to deliver on it, we are continuing to provide new content and support for The Crew 2 and the recently launched The Crew Motorfest.
Its just a matter of time before they decide to shut down The Division 1 for the purpose of "server infrastructure".

I imagine they'll do it to Skull and Bones before Division 1, but this is pretty much the end result of every live service and younger gamers are conditioned to think it's normal.

It may be too soon, but RIP The Crew. Fuck Ubishit

Dude the Skull and Bones beta gameplay is fucking amazing.

It's ship combat only no melee or person to person combat
The fucking wooden ship has a stamina bar
Microtransactions
Niggers everywhere
Fade to black loading screens for entering/exiting/docking your ship
Resource gathering minigame where you scan the shoreline for herbs or whatever
Half your crew is female but since they can't be topless like the dudes Ubisoft very poorly rendered clean white modern style bras onto them, very immersive and pirate like
One of the ship skins is the LGBT flag

I hope Synthetic Man plays this. It might be the sloppiest goyslop I've ever seen. It looks like a parody of a Ubisoft game.

Let's talk about Skull & Bones' FIRST design flaw: its logo.

The titular font is a generic font used in Crysis and Black Ops II, two futuristic styled video games. In a period themed pirate game. Also, skull and bones represents death. This game is literally dead on arrival despite its imminent delays on account of no vision or foresight of a pirate MMO game.

Sea of Thieves achieves this notion of a pirate MMO better than Ubisoft.

They couldn't even give us an actual human skull? Christ...

How the fuck does a beta have microtransactions? Who is stupid enough to spend money on an unreleased game, nevermind one delayed multiple times?
I guess it worked for Star Citizen…

Do you remember that bit of Assassins Creed 4 where one of your pirate besties turns out to be a woman disguising herself as a man so she could be a badass pirate captain because abiding by 18th Century female gender roles is boring and lame? I feel like if Ubisoft made that game today she’d be a pooner and have a whole spiel about how not wanting to do housework and pump out babies constantly means she was actually a real boy the whole time.

Extremely late, but fuck Ubisoft for shutting down The Crew. I wanted to play that game for a while but kept putting it off, now I will never get the chance.
There is no reason this game should have ever been an MMO, shutting down it's multiplayer functions would be one thing but killing it off entirely because it has no OFFLINE mode? Fuck off
Thank god Ross made a video where he shows off more or less the entire game, or the most important parts of it anyways. That way we can at least see what the game looked like.

Ubisoft Delenda Est.

The original interview the headline her is quoting isn't quite as bad, he's basically talking about how people who stream movies got used to doing that instead of owning physical media like DVDs, and that gamers should follow suit.
"One of the things we saw is that gamers are used to, a little bit like DVD, having and owning their games. That's the consumer shift that needs to happen. They got comfortable not owning their CD collection or DVD collection. That's a transformation that's been a bit slower to happen [in games]. As gamers grow comfortable in that aspect… you don't lose your progress. If you resume your game at another time, your progress file is still there. That's not been deleted. You don't lose what you've built in the game or your engagement with the game. So it's about feeling comfortable with not owning your game.

"I still have two boxes of DVDs. I definitely understand the gamers perspective with that. But as people embrace that model, they will see that these games will exist, the service will continue, and you'll be able to access them when you feel like. That's reassuring.

The problem with this is there's been a massive backlash about streaming building over the last few years. From the ever greater fracturing of content onto more and more platforms, to the ever increasing costs, to adding shit like advertising even when people are paying for it. Hell it wasn't that long ago people were ripping Sony a new one for removing content people had "bought" on their platform, so why the fuck would I trust them to not jew me on games as well? The switch to digital storefronts and launchers has been bad enough, but subscription models are always worse.

Maybe it's explained better in the article, but the argument is just false. If you have a game through some some launcher then you are fucked if the launcher stops being supported, ditto if it is on a central server. And streaming games is completely unfeasible.

Well, the Assassins Creed with the british twins had this shoehorned pooner back in 2015.

"Gamers need to be comfortable with not owning their games"
More like gamers need to be more comfortable with knowing where to find a good torrent of said games. Nothing that can't be pirated is worth playing, not like anyone will miss Ubisoft if they put some ridiculous DRM in their games anyways

I just wanted a AC4/AC:R were you could customize the player model and the crew, and steer other ships (like in Sid Meier Pirates). Apparently technology isn't there yet... I guess I would be delusional to ask for co-op on top of that.
