Yep, but not in Nigeria. In Syria. They burned a girl for "being indecent".
Another bunch of sweet, loving and accepting folks ^^ :feels:

Dude, one time I was on /b/ and someone posted a gif where a mob of angry "people" set a woman on fire and watched as she slowly burned to death. In another gif, a man threw gasoline in the remains of the burned woman and booom, almost everyone who was watching and cheering caught fire too.
It was pretty satisfying watching those fuckers burning too.

Back on topic, as @Cosmos already said, it must be very frustrating for Ugo living in a country where people brutalize each other on a daily basis and you can't really do anything substantial, besides draw some comics and hope for the best. (hint it wont be better but still)

edit bc autocorrector is shit and i cant configure it for some reason

I could see how someone like him could put out these comics as a way of calling bullshit to this outdated thinking.
The guy behind “Who killed captain Alex” mentioned in the director’s comment that people thought the action scenes and special effects were made by witch doctors.

His medical-themed cartoons definitely has a purpose in a society where many people's idea of medical care is to give a goat and a bottle of booze to your local witch doctor.

this guy is a comedy genius. the bizarre yet serious PSA comics followed by a comedy strip make them that much funnier. the PSAs throw off your mood and soften you up before slapping you with humor (killing you instantly.)

I love him.

He has lessons for the world. “Let your sense rise as that thing is rising.” He should give an Oscars speech. #metoo #oscarsowhite #TimesUp.... (I forget what we are doing this year) .

It's going to take a lot more than a comic to make people in Africa change their minds. There's so much superstition on that continent that it's going to take generations to get them to advance.

And I'm sure you've seen this video where a group of South African students say that science is a "western" thing and they need to "decolonialize their minds" to accept things like "African science" which includes witch doctors bringing down the lighting. The internet is full of stories of of how backwards things are in Africa. One comic strip isn't going to change people's minds.

Totally agree. Africa and some parts of Asia and Europe are really that backwards, and sincerely is a worrying thing in 2018. Those people live in prejudice, ignorance and misery, and naturally this gives ammo to the rising racist and neo Nazi sentiments in the West, especially Europe.
True, a comic can't do very much, but it's still something, and at least this guy is stepping in.

I'm probably being more serious than I should be on this site, but Ugojesse has almost 200k followers on instagram and his comics are probably a good start at educating people. Hopefully (:optimistic:) it's a sign of change in the nation, his serious comics seem to largely represent Western values and are very obviously directed at a local Nigerian reader.

The content is ridiculous to people from developed nations and functional education systems, but for his target audience (uneducated & superstitious) they actually do need to be exposed to stuff like this. We laugh because this shit is so obvious, but people don't inherently understand that epilepsy isn't contagious. Having someone explain it to them in a language they know does matter.

I just recently learnt that when you lose weight most of it is lost through breath as CO2, and not much is lost through your sweat/shit/piss. In hindsight it makes sense, much like a machine we also produce a gas from the fuel that we burn. I had a fundamental misunderstanding about the human body and without someone telling me I would probably have never made the realisation myself.

People from third world nations like Nigeria are not biologically retarded, but they do take ignorance to the extreme. Their cultural/economic situation is so absolutely fucked that when we get an educated person trying his best it's entertaining in a similar way to Tommy Wiseau trying to make an oscar winning drama film.

I really hope Ugojesse sees this thread and decides to start posting his content directly here, much like jenffer a jay. Based on what Titan Lithos posted about Pidgin English at African universities, if he does have a degree he might also have a decent grasp on actual English. It would be interesting to have a verified Nigerian comic artist dispel and confirm whatever rumors make it here.

I could sperg about Nigeria all day long about how the southern ethnic groups of the Igbo and Yoruba often get visas to go study in the US, UK, and all over Europe. By the time they've gotten their degrees, they've landed a job in that country, because fuck going back to Nigeria. They also do something "refugees" from other countries don't do: culturally adapt and learn the language.

But enough about that. Let's get a laugh at Ugo's comics.

I'm probably going to start a Nollywood thread in multimedia. That shit's hilarious. Two to three hour movies filmed on smartphone cameras, trying their best to be serious.

Wakaliwood>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nollywood

I can't speak for everyone but feel free to sperg about Nigeria and it's ethnic groups. Sounds pretty interesting if you can be bothered writing about it.
