Ulozto.net, another file search and host site is "Essentially" dead - Perhaps more file query sites will be next.

Last time I discussed file hosting sites I talked about how zippyshare essentially faded into the ether. It was sad but not groundbreaking. Yes a couple of archived indie albums may have been lost but it wasn't monumental. Ulozto.net, however, is a completely different thing. Unless you may not be aware ulozto.net could be considered a more unregulated version of the Internet archive. If there was a crack that had not been seeded in over 10 years you probably would be able to find it uploaded around that period. And it wasn't just your average crack of illustrator cs4, there was tons of obscure files too. This includes but is not limited to; bootleg films (e.g. 2001 younggary), art films, j2me applications, licensed fonts, ios ipa collections, etc. Now in regards to what happened. I was a bit worried about this earlier around the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 when they got rid of their on-site search and began to query searches on google, yandex, and what I guess what you could consider their loophole gozo which is essentially a neutered version of their original search engine (but perhaps sufficient enough to pass the eyes of EU regulators). Nevertheless it seems as if getting rid of their search engine was not enough as abruptly without warning on December 1st they announced "Uloz.to Disk fundamentally changed the way it operates in response to European DSA legislation". If you go to the site now you will notice that the search is no longer available and instead there is a pop up on the top discussing how you should read their FAQ. I linked a screenshot to this post from the beginning of the FAQ.

Scrolling down, there is a section discussing how if you log into their site you can access the search function but as of December 1st you can no longer access others files EVEN IF YOU ARE LOGGED IN. This is why if you use a search engine like yandex and search for a ulozto link it will say "file not found" if a query from the site pops up. What does this mean? Options are shrinking quickly, and fast, for ways to have direct link archives. The only service I know that has little to no regulation these days and has a search query now is 4shared. And even now they havent updated their ui in over 10 years, so I have a feeling it'll be any day before they just shut down out of nowhere. I'm sure you can include the Internet archive as well, but their track record does not instill trust in my heart that they'll be around forever as they seem to bend their knees really quick to pressure from third parties (e.g. taking away kiwifarms from the Internet archive)...I have a feeling all it will take is a very angry nintendo lawyer and they'll be gone. So what option is left? I guess you just have to hope to god someone seeds a torrent for enough time and that when they don't feel like it anymore someone else will pick up their slack. I don't know though...whats everyones thoughts on this?

It was once a great source of free music.
I still remember getting papaya's pink off there when soulseek users made the album locked down if you wanted it in lossless.
Soyjack.party, Anonfiles, northpole.fi, Omegle, and now Ulozto have fallen in 2023. Any others from this year that I'm not aware of? This is only going to get worse, and I'm scared.
the sharty still exists. I think if uloz moves to either russia or america they may have a better chance of not dealing with regulations. But it seems as if they care more about short term financial decisions as opposed to long term decisions.

This seems like a good a thread as any to ask this -

I have a collection of PDF files of old technical books I've been curating for 6+ years now about 15k books some of them I have downloaded for a single paragraph or image I need for research or because I found a rich vein of old technical knowledge that isn't archived anywhere else, I have the by Author, Title an Date scans of documents going back to 1300 till the 1950's - If I wanted to share them online with a document that contains the explanation of them by subject matter, contents etc - does anyone have a good place to share them they could recommend?

There is nothing pirated in there as it's all copyright free so that may open up some other options but I am at a loss and I think I've got a valuable resource I'd like to make available for others, and for them to submit corrections, updates or additions etc.

This is the sort of thing I am talking about is attached- If I find it useful I try an buy an original, or a high quality reprint but I'd need a large building just for the books if I did that, and that's just not practical for me right how but I always try and make the ones I referance a lot better by taking sections from other scans and splicing in the good parts from books with duff scans.

Make a torrent and share it everywhere, seeders will spread it further

Gonna miss these niggers. Although ever since I became a regular VPN user I prefer torrenting to find what I want, they had some unique local stuff that wasn't available anywhere else. Think obscure slav music or music videos. I've been using them for, god, has to be like 15 years now.

Doubt. Moving to America they're gonna get the Megaupload treatment, moving to Russia is most likely not an option due to fear of sanction violations and/or patriotism (yes really).

Yeah they already made the genius choice of having the we support ukraine tag at the top of their page earlier this year. Yeah their obscure collection was unmatched. I even found some super rare files that contributed to macintoshgarden's site, and one which I am now kicking myself about as it just passed the threshold of being considered abandonware.

Torrenting would be a good idea but I'd also reach out to the developers/hosters at library genesis to see if your books could be of any use to their ever growing archive.
