UMich Students Demand 'No-Whites-Allowed' Safe-Space To Plot "Social Justice" Activism

The demand is one of several lodged by “Students4Justice,” who this month ratcheted up campus demonstrations to pressure administrators to cave, complaining in a newly launched petition that President Mark Schlissel has snubbed their demands.

The clamor for a segregated space for students of color to organize social justice efforts comes even as the public university builds a $10 million center for black students in the center of campus.

In their demands, students explain why the new black student center is not enough, “because we want a space solely dedicated to community organizing and social justice work specifically for people of color.”

“We want documentation of past, current, and future student activism and this should be a permanent space that is staffed, and has resources for students to organize and share resources,” the demand letter states.

What's funny is University of Michigan and UM Law School were the universities where Supreme Court cases (Gratz v. Bollinger and Grutter v. Bollinger) set the limits of affirmative action (rejecting an automatic "point" system that gave points by race for admission but upholding a law school admission policy that used it as just one among many factors without being a quota system).

So the Regents there are probably well aware of exactly how costly, lengthy and expensive it is to litigate constitutional cases related to race and, as pointed out previously, the student body is jam packed full of students whose parents are East Coast lawyers who would sue at the drop of a hat if they did anything this fucking stupid.

So the brats can squall all they like. They're not getting their illegal concessions.

Maybe rich black students who had the same access to private schools or good public schools in good neighborhoods that most college students have. They may have that plus any AA they get, but if you got a shit education in some prison school in the ghetto where you were too busy dodging gunfire and knives to get educated, you're going to be way too fucked up to qualify for college even with assistance.

The real problem with AA is it mainly assists people who were already pretty privileged, while the somewhat marginal white students who end up getting cut to make these places were probably not themselves very privileged.

Still, black students are massively underrepresented in higher education, the numbers have plummeted in recent years especially in places that AA is no longer really practiced (these places have often been taken by Asians).

Being black just isn't some huge advantage in life. I'll take being white any day.

It's both. There's both a lack of adequate opportunities and a toxic crabs in a bucket culture that discourages taking advantage of those that do exist.

I went to a school in the inner city for a few years growing up. Yes it's partially the culture but it's also due to the fact that the schools are underfunded and overcrowded. Hard for kids to learn when you have 30 kids in a classroom and textbooks dating back to the Carter Administration.

Eh, Japanese students have similar numbers of students per teacher and get along fine. And English, Math, and basic Science haven't changed that much that the books would matter. However, having parents who either DGAF or think their children are angels as they start fist fights in the classroom are a bigger problem.

And inner city schools are usually extremely well funded. It's just that the money goes to the administration and unions long before it reaches the classrooms.

Why is it always black people? I mean seriously, my university consists of an over 18% Asian population and they never complain about not being represented. The Japanese and Korean Clubs over there put on some very intellectual and fun events that don't involve the words "white people are evil".

This is because when Asians go to a US university, they usually truly earned it and they're more concerned with acquiring knowledge and skills.
