I wonder if the Coreans are pissed off that they got the DEMO but not the full game.
[Obscure Trivia] Toby knows Corean - not sure how much though. He was learning it before learning Japanese.
He even bought a Corean mobile phone at some point.
I will accept exactly one black Tenna.

I don't get the people who say he should just learn spanish. Should he learn every language whenever he wants to translate something? Should we dedicate all deltarune development to teaching tricky tony swahili?
How DARE you demand we learn English to enjoy your product i say in response to someone calling me a retard for demanding that somebody learn my language

thread tourist here, i couldve sworn i played a german translated version of sans underpants. wasnt it officially loicensed?
No.

There are other translations handled by other people, but Toby Fox, in his infinite autism, only allows English and Japanese as the official translations because those are the languages he speaks. He wants as much direct control and involvement as humanly possible so his vision remains pure.

aight thanks g

Honestly, I like to believe that most latinos aren't actually offended and are just taking the opportunity to shitpost and/or dunk on Toby's jap LARP.

Personally I learned english because I grew up with spain localizations and they were downright atrocious and now, despite "latin american spanish" being an option I still choose english when it comes to american made games.
So yeah I get where Toby is coming from with wanting to be involved with the localization process so it does not damage the game's writing and themes in the process, but at the same time I think it is fucking ridiculous specially considering how big his games have become. Just get a decent translator and an editor who is also fluent in english and call it a day, after deltarune's script is not some literary masterpiece

The "artistic vision" limitation excuse doesnt fly very well, considering that even when something is done as your creative drive dictates, doesnt mean is actually any good or in the quality you expect. In many cases, due to lack of skill, the outcome suffers because you didn't know any better (i.e. you hire a graphic designer that ends up completely revamping your draft and the result is not only to some degree different but lightyears better version of whatever you wanted).

I bet tobyfox japanese translation went through a rigorous editing, assuming he wrote that himself and not some hired professional. Hence, even if Toby couldnt speak jack shit japanese (not sure he's even fluent yet tho but i digress) and that wont make the japanese translation any less valid.

This whole fiasco convinced Toby Fox to have an unremarkable npc refer to Kris as a boy in chapter 5 and completely tarnish the narrative of him being nonbinary.

He does know some Japanese, but in order to get the right "feel", he also consulted with others and used the localization company 8-4.

Besides, there's plenty of examples of derivative fan projects and translations; in other words, if they don't like it that much they can make their own, for crying out loud.
