Undertale / Deltarune / Toby Fox Discussion

I really want to know why the majority of the fan base thinks Dess is the knight, she's honestly the least likely candidate out of the Holiday family, and it's just weird everyone being that fixated on being Dess.
Seriously? Antlers, baseball bat, suspiciously-missing, already close with Kris and does similar poses, the bunker code is in her guitar, presumably has some sort of history with Carol, boss theme that uses part of Lost Girl, and the game in general won’t shut up about her. If anything, the biggest point against Dess being the knight is that it’s too obvious.

I still hope it’s Rudy because it would be an interesting twist that there’s still evidence for, but the game at least wants you to think it’s Dess at this point.
That, and the "mysterious badass masked warrior is actually a w-w-woman?!?!" trope wont die any time soon.

All of these points swayed me into Dess. Someone in here also suggested Dess had Kris's original soul and is why he needs the player to not keel over and die and explains why she would have so much power as the Roaring Knight.

If it were Rudy, it would feel out of nowhere, but if some setup is done before the reveal, it could be a trip.

When I was playing I though it was Carol, but...
I thought that was a possibility until someone in this thread brought up a simple question: How did Carol get to the church? Kris and Susie went straight there from the Holiday household, so Carol would have to suddenly interrupt her reprimanding of Noelle the moment Kris and Susie are out of sight to make a beeline through the woods (assuming that’s even possible) directly to church, quickly make two dark fountains, then get in position to confront the Fun Gang, all in the span of a few minutes tops. Unless Chapter 5 opens with Noelle mentioning how lucky she was to not get yelled at because her mom suddenly ran away and didn’t come back until several hours later, I’d say that rules it out entirely.

But you know who was in a perfect position to wait around in church after everyone left and have ample time to make some fountains? Maybe Dess, but you know who else?
If it were Rudy, it would feel out of nowhere, but if some setup is done before the reveal, it could be a trip.
There are a few too many coincidences, like Rudy at least knows what’s going on:
I’d still probably put it at 70% Dess, 29% Rudy, 1% Carol (not physically possible) / Asgore (out of character, but technically feasible) / Papyrus (Toby just wouldn’t).

The Papyrus theory is one I just don’t get. Why would you want it to be the most boring option possible? Think about it. If it’s Papyrus, from the character’s perspective the Knight’s secret identity is… Some guy. The convenience store’s brother that nobody has any real connection to.

It would only really mean something to the player, and even at that point, only if you played Undertale.

Ok, really warming up to the Rudy theory after that reel. I also saw some decent arguments for the knight being Asriel, but I rather we don't go that route since it would feel like a rethread partially.
Oh yeah, I didn’t even consider Asriel. I’ll also put that in the “out of character” and “Toby wouldn’t” categories.

I don’t think anyone actually sincerely wants it to be Papyrus. It’s just funny knowing that the funny Undertale skeleton (no not that one) is technically one of the few candidates that hasn’t been completely disproven by virtue of being absent, plus he and the Knight have similar builds. And if you want to go full galaxy brain, the Knight uses star-based attacks, and the symbol on Papyrus’s royal guard uniform is based on the Starmen from Earthbound.

One theory I liked, which I admit borders on crackhead tier, is Noelle (with Kris soul) from a doomed future being the knight and basically doing all of this to stop said bad future from happening.

There's also the evidence of her being involved that independent of the Knight stuff. Namely, the fact that "Raise your bat," from Chapter 3 is exclusively associated with her and has odd prescient lyrics about the Red Soul and her connection to Spamton. The one line we have describing Spamton's patron is that is
>It pulls the strings and makes them ring.
The strings that Ralsei identifies as guitar strings in his check dialogue for the PuppetScarf, when guitars so far have only been associated with Dess.

Despite what a lot of Fanart shows, Dess antlers are round like Noelle and Rudy.

The only one with pointed antlers like the knight is Carol.
baseball bat
We have a shard from the Knight's blade and the only object made of the same material isn't one of Dess baseball bats (which we can check in her room) but the sword in Carol's room, so no, it isn't a bat.
suspiciously-missing
This here should be the biggest reason against Dess knight because in the entire game we are told and hinted at to find Dess no matter what, and there isn't anything hidden about the knight as they are in plain sight the entire time.
already close with Kris and does similar poses
I'm gonna give you a point here, but I do want to point out the possibility of either Carol or Rudy teaching Kris those moves, especially since both families are pretty close.
the bunker code is in her guitar
It's already said in the game that Carol keeps anything important inside her house, this includes the code for the shelter. Hell, it's the first thing she verified once she got to her house.
boss theme that uses part of Lost Girl,
Considering lost girl also plays when Berdly talks about the spelling bee and Susie telling about her problems fitting in, I would say it's a theme more about grieving instead of something exclusive to Dess/Noelle.

I just say Papyrus knight to be contrarian and because Dess is too obvious, even if it does make the most sense.

I am remembering during the 10th anniversary streams, Toby showed off a list of unused items, and amongst them was an item called Asriel's Bat, a weapon with an AT of 40. The knights AT value is the same number.

Toby knew what he was doing.

I assume it's just shitposting and memes. Same level as Asgore ran over Dess (and on purpose).

Well, Asriel still has no character outright in Deltarune, he's a mystery. Only things we know are that he was the talented child, that he seems to have an estranged relation with Kris and that Ralsei MAY be what he used to be younger or MAY be what Kris wished him to be. Hell, I don't know where people get Asriel and Dess were an item. For all we know, first time he appears, he calls Asgore a cuck, downs a beer, throws the can at Kris and belches in Toriel's face.

Yeah, that was the biggest "there might be something to this..." for the Asriel Knight. And some of the circunstancial for Dess like the poses could also apply to Asriel. I just don't like it since I rather Asriel wasn't super key to the plot again.
