Undertale

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
On one hand, it's fun to speculate on what's gonna happen in the future chapters and, on the other, it's entertaining to be totally surprised. It still would be interesting if people posted crazy theories and saw how they hold up in a couple of years. Personally, I believe that Ralsei is actually Flowey, and want to put it out to come back to when the final chapter releases. Also, the pacifist won't be the best ending, and the actual final boss of the game is the player.
Krusie is seemingly confirmed in a very high profile way but I'm wary of that naughty dog.
Chapter 2 had some "relationship meter" flags and it seems like we might make Kris pursue different characters, even though it's obvious he's into Susie. Since the loss of control is a major theme of the game, will it comment on it? Is mind controlling a person and forcing them to date people they don't like basically rape? Of course, the game won't call it that, but metaphorically?

Anyway, what are you hoping to see in the future chapters? I'm hoping that this universe's version of Papyrus would be closer to his original neckbeard version, that would be a funny contrast.

Sperg time.

Firstly I think the Krusie moments are just fanservice from Tobert himself, You can maybe guess why, okay?

Technicals-wise all of the screenshots bar one are for Chapter 4. This means that the Chapter 3 Dark World is pretty damn spoiler-y - a hint into why this is would be what Susie says to Kris during that 'dinner date', this implies that we are going to learn quite a bit about the Dreemurrs. Which is to be fair, going to be an awful lot of spoilers.

We also know nothing about the Chapter 4 Dark World yet - the now-infamous 'polite' sprite's backdrop suggest that we might visit the Holiday household in either Chapter 3 or 4 - I'm still sticking to the theory that the Chapter 4 Dark World is the church though, due to each chapter possibly corresponding to a day of the week (Ch1 - Thursday ; Ch2 - Friday ; Ch3 - Saturday ; Ch4 - Sunday (Church service day)).

I don't know why one of the 'cool guys' is absent from the club band. Maybe he's finally got a building permit from Ralsei to make a CD Bagel shop? (And is now consequently working there)

The scene with the rainy kid in front of a closed police station may give us a hint or two about Undyne (maybe even Napstablook) being involved in some stuff. Evident because Toriel very obviously called the police due to (presumably Kris) slashing the van's tires.

The music showcased are just classic Tobert leitmotif re-using, although it's interesting how the Green Room uses the shop leitmotif even though there's no implication that it will be a shop area.

Not going to indulge into some of the deeper theories like Mike, the "Asriel and Kris couches" and what the new "weird routes" will be like - if there will even be weird routes that is.

If Tobert gets his wrist in check and development is going as Well® as it is right now (with Chapter 3 presumably already finished and a decent amount done on Chapter 4), we might see a late 2023 or early-mid 2024 release for Chapters 3,4,5.

It's an okay game.

Very preachy with it's tone at times and some characters are incredibly hit or miss and agressively quirky.

The music is very good throughout though, I especially like how it transitions from mostly retro snes type music to actual tracks as the game goes on.

I could only really stomach one playthrough as I am no fan of the writing overal.

If not being a fan of the writing means not being a fan of the characters, there's the genocide run. Though there is one character that will have way more dialogue, well, maybe two but it might equal what they have in the regular run.

I predict that Asriel confirms Kris's sex when he finally shows up, and is surprised that no one could tell.

The Farms just had to go completely down around the time the Spamton Sweepstakes ARG lore drop thing happened. Starting off with sneak peeks of new enemies/characters, and after going in deeper we can find some more hints about what's going on with the main characters. There's a Google doc I found on the Deltarune subreddit that summarizes the ARG links, I'll link it below:

As much as I'd like to read up on what I missed, I'm not touching a Google Doc.

Oh man. That was a fucking awesome event. Tons of funny and plot teasing stuff.
The best link had to be https://deltarune.com/the_n3w3st_g1rl_g1rl/. Tons of plot speculation (time loop?) and drama over Noelle getting horny while Kris nearly fucking dies.
Obviously it's more complicated than that but the fireworks display was pretty cool.

Kinda worried that there's a lot of clear loopback from the fandom but the cowboy and mafia costumes are pretty cool.
Also why does Ralsei's mafia costume look like a male stripper outfit?

I predict that Asriel confirms Kris's sex when he finally shows up, and is surprised that no one could tell.
I'm not sure I want to watch a pixelated goat boy aggressively deepthroating his brothers dick, but we'll see when we get there I guess.
Had a really funny response to these and another but then it got deleted and I can't remember it. R.i.p.

Edit:
Also, my pre spamton sweepstakes game theory was that chapter 5 would end with the roaring and kill all the residents of hometown. MY TOWN would remain but the residents would slowly turn to stone with more each chapter. You would survey the hometown ruins and enter dungeons in the overworld with reality and the dark world mixing together.

As far as enjoyment of something that’s popular goes, I think the way the creators handle their fanbase is just as important as the fanbase itself, if not more so. And Toby has enough self-awareness through Earthbound and Homestuck’s fandoms to know that it’s best to let things ride out and not get involved unless they get really bad (like at that one convention a few years ago where someone put a needle in a cookie or something, I don’t remember the details). As a result, the fanbase has mellowed out considerably compared to the pre-Deltarune era.

Compare that to something like Steven Universe where the creators actively promote their fans’ bad behavior, or Sonic where they try so hard to be in on the fandoms’ jokes that they can’t even take themselves seriously. All things considered, Toby may be quirky in casual interviews and live events, but he also knows when to be professional, and I’d like to think that professionalism reflects on how people view the games.

There is an argument to be made about the fanbase being so fucking aggressively shit that you pretend to not be a fan to avoid being lumped in with them.
Sure, but you don't have to associate with the general fandom. It's all about picking the right places and people to discuss it with.

Although, that's easier said than done.

If a fanbase gets large and loud enough their ideas eventually start to pollute the original creators vision. I'm not completely sure about that really happening with deltarune yet, but it's gotten pretty close.

You can go to https://deltarune.com/sweepstakes/ , start from there and try to find all the links yourself, if you don't feel like trusting Google.

Also I don't interact much with the fandom, nevermind the rabid parts of it, I just check cool theories and artwork and that's enough to satisfy me. Don't know about you guys.

It took what half a decade before Toby caved and ported undertale to consoles? never mind finishing it's sucessor deltarune in a lifetime will it take just as long to get ported? If ever?

Yes I am a console knave I can't afford a high end alienware computer with more features on it the a cray super collider.

It's on switch right now dumpass. It'll probably be released on the others once the first paid chapters come out.

Oh my bad, sorry I don't follow EVERY tidbit of gaming news, I just remember how back before it was ported, toby was very adament about never releaseing his games on anything other than PC a statment that aged about as well as the famous claim Resident Evil 4 would be an exclusive to the Gamecube and never be released on any other system....but yeah maybe that was a little harsh and uncalled for....guess I'm just caught in a bad time, sorry Frens.

Undertale took just under two years to get ported to consoles, Deltarune chapter 1 took a few months, and chapter 2 took about two weeks.

Undertale runs at full speed on Windows 2000; I’m pretty sure anything made in the last 15 years could play Deltarune just fine.

He wanted to port it to consoles from the beginning but said it probably wouldn’t happen since he didn’t know how to do it himself.
