Mike is a fucking dick referenced several times in spamton's dialogue either by name or via spamton getting visibly upset when mentioning shit like "all your friends abandoned you for the slime you are?". Mike is clearly "the guy" spamton was on the phone with that led to his success before his life went on a downward spiral and he got the gaster call. A guy that at some point betrayed spamton and sent him on said downward spiral. Some dumbass people that didn't get why spamton goes "WE DONT NEED MIKE!" and then has a moment where he just goes all quiet befor uttering mikes name again have gome up with some wacky ass theories that fly in the face of reason. Mike is most likely if not definitely going to show up in chapter 3 but whether as an optional boss or a main antagonistic force is unclear. One thing's for sure, Spamton isn't mike and it fucking is wild to me how anyone could even take spamton and mike as the same guy with how spamton talks about the fucker.

Personally, I'm thinking mike might be the guy on the TV at the end because "Mike TV" and the mention of "DON'T LISTEN TO ANYTHING YOU HEAR ON TV!" When spamton's talking about mike.

I don't think Mike is Spamton's mysterious phone benefactor, I believe that the garbage noise comment from the Addisons gives us every reason to believe Spamton was speaking directly to Gaster or whoevers making people schizos. Mike is referred to by Spamton with language that suggests he was once a friend and perhaps even a rival that left him behind once he fell from grace. He's probably just referring to another character outside of his Dark World's context like how he also mentions Jevil and how Jevil foreshadows Queen

There's not enough of a solid connection for it to be a direct reference to the soda commercial. I've seen people claim the "now's your chance to be a big shot" sample originates from that commercial when it doesn't. That phrase is not uttered once in the specific commerial narrator voice. that the sample is of when pitched down. What's bugging me about the sample is I have vague ass notions of the commercial it probably came from but much like some other ads I vaguely remember I can't find uploads of.

So far I've seen to two Youtubers make that claim, and you know how it goes:
>Famous YouTuber claims something
>Fanbase parrots it nonstop
>Claim becomes accepted as "fact"

The thing is the calls stopping coincided with him falling. The garbage/gaster noise after he apparently left his apartment in a hurry the day he was going to be evicted with the phone still on the line. Certain things don't line up if it was just all gaster. Why would gaster spend YEARS helping a funny email salesman guy get successful and hook him up with advertisement gigs? He's a mad scientist, not a businessman. Mike being supposedly associated with TV business of some kind lines up with the whole ads and sales type of stuff. I'm pretty sure Gaster revealed some generally forbidden knowledge type shit to spamton, like the nature of the world, the location of the abandoned mettaton robot body, and how to transfer yourself/merge with it to gain more power (freedom). The "I WON'T HAVE TO BE ANYBODY'S PUPPET ANYMORE!" line from before he notices the fucking vines the body's tangled and dangling from isn't a literal puppet thing and 100% IS a thing about him being used by people he trusted in the past. Spamton is fucking suffering from the moment you fucking meet him and hides it behind his [[[wacky sales guy!]] persona, albeit extremely poorly.

One thing that stuck out to me about spamton is how in a way he's kinda a combo of elements of burgerpants and all 3 of the ghost cousins from underale in a way (Napstablook/Mad dummy/Mettton).

Burger:
Barely hidden despair boiling under the surface. Funny/depressing shop with theme that's just a slower version of another recurring song. Hell vacations.

Napstablook:Style, lives in the shit rot, funny depression (again) He's got the least in common really. oh no...

Mad dummy: visible anger issues and erratic behavior, lust for power above all else but not for a malicious use of it. Optional rematch path where you fight him in a gimmicky stolen body of some other thing

MTT: WANTS TO BE (AND WAS) A BIG SHOT! Sells a shitload of nonsense products, ended up losing touch with the people he used to know after he got big. has the power of NEO (but only if you do the optional quest that unlocks the fight) NEO Body is also literally a scrapped Mettaton prototype body.

Rambled about 2 fucking things involving the same guy in one go, now I'm gonna go die and revive inexplicably a few hours later.

I dunno why did Gaster appear to a funny little clown and tell him that he lives in a game? Probably because it advanced some sort of experiment or plan he's undertaking. You also gotta remember that the existence of a dark world's history is retroactive. Time moves normally in the dark worlds, an hour in is an hour out. The best two ways to interpret this are: the "consciousness" of the dark world is always there, the fountains just give them form; or, when the dark world is formed by the fountain a history for every place and person is formed based on the history of the item being given form. I think the latter is more likely personally. We also don't know how time passes for Gaster in whatever un-reality he exists in so even if it really was years, it could've been minutes for him

I personally think Gaster is going to be a huge misdirect and that something else is at play here.

All the connections to Gaster aren't all that well hidden, not like some of his references in Undertale were. That just doesn't seem like Toby's thing, and I think he's using our expectations against us to tease a Gaster reveal/plot only to hit the fanbase with an unexpected twist.

If you do so during the battle(or R3 if you’re using a controller), a little Spamton fairy flies down and heals you as a one time thing. That’s fairly well known, but if you press F1 while you’re talking to Spamton in his shop and you get that random bit where he shuts down and a small voice goes “…can anyone hear me…?……help”, he’ll respond with “….thanks…..”.

Gaster is supposed to be "Scattered across space and time" maybe the objects that become the secret bosses had some tiny quantum scale interaction with scattered gaster bits that got recontextualized by dark world shenanigans?

My theory is that the Shadow Crystals may be the "piece of [Gaster]" that the Donut Guy Gaster Follower was holding. They seem to be able to, for a moment, show you a sort of "truth" of the world you're in, at least in the Dark World. We don't know enough to be able to meaningfully interpret the "it was as if your hand wasn't there" and "you thought you saw Susie glaring at you" lines.

My guess? In a Dark World, a shadow crystal shows you the Light World (ie the true form) of the World it was found in. In the Light World, I believe it may show the holder their greatest insecurities. Assuming that Kris and "You" (and to a lesser extent "You" and the narrator) are separate entities, this would make a lot of sense. "You" are not in full control of "your" body and Kris may be able to leave you behind forever some day, thus seeing "as if you didn't have a hand". As an extension "you" probably believe Susie only likes Kris and would choose them over "You" thus "for a moment you thought you saw Susie glaring at you". Depending on your actions in Chapter 2 that fear may even be rational.

I think with Spamton it’s less that he himself is scary and more what happened to him is very unsettling and creepy: how some outside force really contacted some down on his luck schlub and corrupted him so badly. Has that slight eldritch tinge to it to make it just creepy enough.

Any horror associated with Spamton is more about his situation and the context surrouding him than the character themselves.

Although yes his intro in his new body actually did show he actually could have some scare factor himself, just from how batshit he obviously was at that point if nothing else.
