Well, I killed named NPCs whenever presented with a choice. Not sure if that constitutes genocide mode.
I also did let her bring me down to 2 HP as I was trying to talk to her but couldn't.
If my save is corrupted, is it possible to remedy that?

It unlocks an armor item that I believe is like 7k? Afiak it makes fights super easy and the price goes down every time you lose a fight. So it's easy mode.

Seriously, though, the arrow that's gonna hit you next flashes red. Just keep that in mind and be conservative with your healing items and you'll do fine.
