Undertale

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I thought it was mediocre.
To each their own, I guess.
I did like it, but I would have enjoyed it more if it was a regular RPG and not a bullet hell game. Am not good at those and don't enjoy them nearly as much as regular RPG battle systems. That said, the story was great, the music was fantastic, the characters were funny, and the artwork was pretty. And for a mostly one man show, I gotta give it credit for that.

As much as I enjoy the one man system, I really can't help but wonder what it would be like having multiple party members. I mean considering Papyrus has something to say in nearly every room in the game, he and Sans might as well have joined you and use their own weird methods for befriending enemies.

But then the story would have to be completely revised as characters like Undyne probably wouldn't fight Papyrus or his brother. So eh.

Well, I think Undertale is a very good game, but as a game it's pretty shallow unless you are an avid speedrunner or something. The bullet patterns are very easy and the methods to spare monsters are always the same and easy to memorize, and FIGHT is very one-sided saving for two cases.
Don't get me wrong, I think it was worth every penny, and I absolutely adore the music and cast. It's not a game I'll forget about. I just don't think it's very replayable once you've seen it all (Gaster included). It's more like a book or a movie. Has a lot of heart, but I don't see myself playing it more than once every few years or so. Unless hard mode becomes a real thing, in that case it'd be more wholesome to replay.

I have to agree as having completed all three runs, but I still enjoy the game in its full run quite immensely. I can't name a game where I've played through the same ending three times and cried at the same spots each time. :powerlevel:

I got Undertale a while back, haven't been able to fully complete it yet for some very specific technical reasons, but it's a really fun game. Good story writing. Tutorial goat and Lizard lisa Simpson Annoying, but necessary because tutorial and plot reasons.

Then there's Skeletor and his spaghetti.
Seriously, the entire story arc with Papyrus capturing a human then befriending them instead is pretty much the plot to that infamous He-Man Christmas special where Skeletor tries capturing some kids for Hordak and ends up befriending them.
He's pretty cool! he's a cool dude! (In all honesty though, if someone like him existed, they'd probably have a thread here.) his brother's pretty cool too. He's so cool that there's always snow his guard post, even in the lava world.

He's honestly one of my favorite characters. Bloodthirsty TV host robot That looks like an ancient computer bank shaped vaugely like an old game cartridge... that turns into a ROBOT DAVID BOWIE and also might be a Ghost robot. And somehow he ends up being a cohesive character despite all this madness in my description of him.

...It's more than likely been said before, but it's kinda sad how quickly the fanbase at large became a cancerous mass. Now wherever I go online I see people constantly trying to apply special snowflake bullshit on the robot David Bowie and vaugely asian/ polynesian looking protagonist that was specifically designed to look generic so this shit didn't happen. It's been spreading so quickly that I now see this happening with every character in the game including the minor ones.

This gender shit's annoying me a lot, to be honest. I remember reading one alternate ending in particular where the writer decided to make both Frisk and Chara male, and multiple people complained about "misgendering".

A character that has no canon gender... is misgendered.

Though one thing that bothers me a lot more about the fanbase is people shipping Sans and Toriel. Partly because "they like telling each other bad jokes, it must be twu luv", partly because some of them REALLY love to shitcan Asgore in the process. "lol he misses his family, would rather kill himself to let you go than accept a second shot at a happier life and the first time he sees his wife in fucking forever, she kicks his shit in and tells him he's a terrible person. what a loser"

Oh god, I love the game but I'm actually annoyed Undertale is winning. Not because it doesn't deserve it, it's really a good game- but because the fanbase is goading people to vote for it. Most of its wins are not from people genuinely weighing out both choices and deciding undertale is better.

Pretty much. I keep hearing votebots are being used. Then again these contest polls are dumb anyway.

Maybe they could just be generic lost kids and have each one have their own dodging mechanics, so you'd have to watch which one gets attacked to be prepared. Like maybe one could be stuck in blue mode and would have to jump to dodge attacks, or one could be yellow and have to shoot the projectiles to stay safe.
