Undertale

Had a lot of fun with this game, really like all the interesting spins on common RPG tropes, the relatively unique battle system, and actual cleverly written and humourous dialogue that didn't feel forced. Absolutely tremendous soundtrack as well. The fact one guy did most of the work and managed to make a game that feels so fresh and innovative makes it all the more impressive. It's not the best game ever by any stretch of the imagination, but for what it is, it's fantastic.

Also the GAMEFAQs poll and all the salt it generated is probably the funniest thing I've seen in years. Well played.

So, I played and really enjoyed the demo and now for Christmas my friend has given me the game. I've been surprisingly good at avoiding spoilers and such so far so I'm looking forward to it, wish me luck! \o/

Kudos to avoiding spoilers. That's impressive these days.

Quick, let's shut down the fandom before they ruin this beautiful moment.
Y'know in an age where everyone seemingly focuses on all the spergy and negative shit about stuff (kinda funny coming from this site of all places but whatever), something as simple as a little kid drawing a cute little comic about a game he likes is unbelievably refreshing.

Oh wow, that's legitimately impressive. I'll just warn you to avoid googling any guides or whatever if you get stuck or have any questions, and to simply play however comes naturally (seriously this is important, don't let people tell you what to do).

It really is a game that demands to be played blind, and less and less people have that opportunity nowadays so savor it.

Haha, well, I know what a few of the characters look like and such, as I'm on tumblr now and then and it's more or less saturated my dash, but I have a loooot of filters on my browser so as soon as I learned a new character's name I would block it so that nothing could ruin the game for me. :P I just haven't had the time or money to spare on the game until now.

That's good to know about guides! I usually do consult them the first time I play as I like to sort of speed through the story the first time round and then "perfect" things on subsequent playthroughs. I am most drawn to the idea of the whole non-lethal playthrough idea as a person who is a weenie and doesn't like hurting things, even in video games, but I think for my first run I'll just throw caution to the wind as you say!

It's not necessarily "throw the caution to the wind", simply to just do whatever comes natural to you. Y'know go with your first instinct.

Also feel free to talk about your experiences while playing if you'd like, I dunno about other people but I personally love seeing new players reactions to shit and I don't think anyone would necessarily object since people are good about spoilers anyways.

Undertale characters described by someone who has never played the game:

Okay, so, I got stuck into the game last night and as suggested, I have come to tell you of my progress. :)
I'm having lots of fun! The gameplay is cool and I love how there are different ways to defeat each monster by sparing- it's very clever and makes you think while playing, which is nice. I love puzzles, so I've been enjoying those too.
I remembered the first level from the demo reasonably well, but maaaan, Toriel. :'( She's just so sweet. I accidentally killed her the first time but then I remembered you could just repeatedly Spare her until she gave up and reloaded. I actually forgot that the game calls you out on that! That's kind of neat.
My other favourite character so far is definitely Papyrus. Like, oh my god, he's me. I'm stuck at his stupid battle right now because I'm really useless at that dodging those stupid fucking bones. I guess I'll try again later today.
