This is another question I have, one of the things I noticed going from UT to DR was a much darker tone which I enjoyed and felt it capitalized on the general feeling of dread I got from UT's neutral route. But I've seen a sect of the community try and say that chapters following 1 drop this for the most part. So does it drop it or is just overreaction?

Ch2 is just them fucking around in the dark world and outside of the Secret Boss & weird route it's mostly lighthearted.

3&4 is basically where the prophecy plot becomes more important and the Hometown segments gain more importance.

Ofc most of it got overshadowed by the deflowering scene. Bravo Toby.

I mostly liked Chapter 3, mini games were fun but I thought getting Rambo's game was a bit too difficult for the first time. I had to replay the second game show segment due to not getting enough points, which was annoying. But I ended up liking Chapter 3 a bit more once I finished it and Chapter 4. Its place in the narrative structure is to play into your expectations of how the story will be structured, and then subvert them. Although the condition for getting the Egg room was annoying, I really didn't like it.
If chapter 3 came out on its own I probably wouldn't like it as much, releasing it and Chapter 4 at the same time was the right call. Same thing about cutting/rewriting the chapter as Toby posted screenshots of Tenna's third round before and a full third round would have probably made the chapter way too long.

For chapter 4, I liked it even more. The extended hometown segment was nice. Didn't care much for Susie and Noelle in them, but I liked Susie's and Noelle individually in that segment. The player and Kris conflicting more in that segment really was a highlight and I was glad to get more of Asgore prepping us for his eventual chapter/dark fountain.
I liked the new enemies, more than Chapter 3s. Alvin’s and Jack's fights were very fun, seeing the Titan was cool and I really like the direction the story is taking. Ralsei and Susie’s dynamic was great to see developed as well.
Before I was a bit worried about how formulaic the story might end up being, but the shake up to the structure and reveals are exciting and I'm 100% in for Chapter 5 next year.
Haven't completed the Snowgrave routes up through 3&4 yet but I’ll get around to it eventually.

Also I just thought of this now, but the Titan Embryos look like Memory Heads. Weird.

The creepy video game parts in Chapter 3 were excellent. Absolutely sent a chill down my spine.

I hate to admit it but I got spooked when I saw the "See you soon" message in the first game

Sorry to derail but I wanted to see if you guys could sell me on Deltarune.

I remember playing UT a couple years ago and then Chapter 1 of DR not long after (back when there only WAS chapter 1) and I thought they were alright, though I also recognized that UT is carried heavily by its soundtrack.

I have been interested in playing them again since the new releases but I saw the price tag for DR and I'm having second thoughts, I'm not as eager to spend that much money as I used to be. It looks fun enough and while its pretty tumblr-coded I'm still interested in the story, minus the faggot stuff. Surprisingly UT got me to care about the characters (expect Alphys, fuck the dykosaur and the lack of consequences for her actions)

Anyways, sell me on the game I suppose.

It's a very love-hate thing. A lot of the problems are carried over from UNDERTALE but a lot are also fixed.
For instance: In one of the current chapters, there's a lot of very ominous prophecies visible on the walls.
There's also a bunch of stupid joke ones that reference previous gags. One of them is even on the main path and everyone stops to comment on how "funny" it is.
As for Alphys, she barely appears. Noelle is her replacement. She isn't a pain 100% of the time like Alphys but there's definitely a lot to hate about her.
There's a character called "Berdly" who's essentially Alphys if she was written well and funny. He's Male, so Toby actually had to put effort in to get the audience to like him.

No. It's still there. There's some pretty ominous stuff that happens.

I'd be embarrassed too if I were Toby, and a bunch of fans on a budget of "nothing" with a potential profit of "nothing" managed to make a game like Yellow that in some ways shits on the infinity budget/unlimited connections produced dream game that is Deltarune.
Of course, the story of Yellow leads a lot to be desired thanks to the "Good Ending" being just fucking commiting suicide, but the "Bad Ending" being fucking blasting that faggot Asgore away and freeing the human souls is based.

Chapter 1 had the music solely composed by Toby Fox, which is why it's all pretty good.
Chapter 2 and beyond has increasing input from Lena Raine (Leif Chappelle) (Famed Tranny) and Marcy Nabors (Can't be bothered to find real name) (Unless my eyes deceive me, Tranny)

Chapter 2 for me. Cyber World's intro alone was fantastic.

I have a theory regarding Chapter 3 and why it was such filler.
In all the promo material, they were pushing the cowboy angle hard. Then the game comes out and it's like 3 minutes of combined segments.

I believe that UNDERTALE YELLOW coming out in december 2023 forced them to scrap the entire thing because it was too similar.

UTY's devs were also teenagers. IIRC it was mostly artists and like 1 programmer tying it all together. You can actually see their writing mature (not all the way though obviously) in the later parts. It explains both the writing's problems, and why there'll never be a sequel. They're moving on.
