Unified Internet Conspiracy Theory - Mapping out the connections and shared histories of SomethingAwful, 4chan, etc.

Yeah, 4chan glows so hard you can see it from space now.

Also don't forget all the pirate sites that SA spawned like WDMA and such.

You know, I had similar thoughts about this and started working on a graph to try to show what sites were connected to one another. Chans and SA were the easy part since a lot of people know about them. But I wanted to focus on gaming forums since I thought "why do so many of these forums look to be run by goons?", and it's hard to find the exact histories of these sites, so I eventually lost steam on the project. Now I realize it's not that these forums came directly from SA, but just that their admins happened to be goons just because of how big SA was in its heyday.

I was also planning on making a git for it back then, so here it is in case anyone wants to mess with it.

420chan should point to "prison sentence/becoming asset for glowies."

Also: KIRTANER IS A FAG.

Facepunch, through Garry and Garry's Mod, spun out of SA Games. With the success of Garry's Mod Facepunch but not its forums was formed, I guess. He was working on a 2D game full of fancy shader effects and he used to post the updates to a thread on SA, the FP forums weren't around yet and Garry's mod was still free so he didn't have that revenue stream yet. He probably recruited some goon to help develop the 2D game so there's that. That game was ultimately never released.
