Unpopular Opinions about TV

-I like Steven Moffat's run of Doctor Who. He isn't the best show runner of the series but he doesn't deserve a lot of the hate he gets. I also enjoyed Clara as a companion.

-The Big Bang Theory is a big guilty pleasure of mine.

I don't watch a lot of episodic television, so these are mostly cartoon and game show related:

* I never liked Animaniacs.

* I never liked SpongeBob SquarePants. When I was 12, I thought Bubblestand/Ripped Pants was one of the dumbest things I'd ever seen in my life.

* I still unironically watch Wheel of Fortune (and have been trying for almost 7 years to become a contestant...).

* The Life and Times of Juniper Lee > American Dragon: Jake Long

* In terms of Family Feud hosts, I would put Richard Dawson and Ray Combs about equally.

I think Doctor Who is one of the lamest/dumbest fucking shows ever and people try to act like it's better than it actually is. I've had long arguments with people who are into it about why it's good or why they like it. When I explain why I like a show to someone I can usually explain it clearly like in something like Breaking Bad, the writing is excellent and you see this main character completely change in a very believable way. Or in something like Lost, the characters are handled very well and you really grow emotionally attached to them and there's always a cool element of "there's this event that happened a long time ago, not a lot of people were around for it, and those who are don't like to bring it up" so getting a clearer and clearer picture of that is really satisfying.

With Doctor Who it was just "yeah the tardis is cool, and he time travels around and it's really witty and charming" and someone even described it as like scooby doo in space, which sounds super lame. Like in a lot of the shows I love, the main thing is that the characters are relatable, the writing is usually great or there is a message the writer is trying to impart onto the audience. I just don't see what is relatable about a time traveling alien that can't die but forms into new british men and fights trashcan robots. Maybe there are well written episodes but I've never been given any hook or anything that would indicate why some part of Doctor Who is actually good, and it's not because it's weird. Lost is a weird show but it wrote its characters well enough that you were able to sympathize with a dead man who could turn into smoke.

Sherlock is probably alright but I don't want to watch anything in the superwholock shit combination that tumblr made.

I tried to watch old and new seasons and they all sucked. It has to be the most boringest and over rated science fiction show of all time!

I never got the appeal of Doctor Who either. Yeah, it's got some cool monsters/aliens/robots here and there. But the show feels like it'd put me to sleep if I watch it in one long, 40+ minute sit. The humor is rather offputting (odd, considering I actually do like British humor to some extent) and the fact that it's length (both in episode length and in its existence) is long and creates pacing issues.

While I can't say I'm surprised it's got the fanbase it does, what I can say is that it feels really overblown and I'm sure half them probably wouldn't have known about the show had it not been for Linkara.

South Park is good, but I don't think it has too many jokes. It carries itself with concepts and satire instead.
I feel similar about Regular Show, it's more the plots that are funny than the jokes, although there certainly are funny moments in both.

Westworld is boring as fuck.

There are literally no stakes. "Oh no the robots are being mistreated, they feel bad!!"

THEY. ARE. FUCKING. ROBOTS.

They don't feel bad, they don't feel pain, they don't have personalities, they just follow their programming. They are advanced toasters. The only reason people care is because some of them look hot naked but if they all looked like Rosie O'Donell or Gary Busey no one would give a shit. And even less if they didn't have human form.

not sure if it's really an unpopular or not opinion but the later seasons of trailer park boys have really gone downhill

i think it was season nine where the park was converted to a retirement home with the gorilla warfare guy and it was just garbage, and they had to ask snoop dogg to save the show in season ten

I had hoped that them buying the rights to the show would've been a good thing, but it hasn't really turned out that way.

i can't imagine what they're gonna try for the next season. they sent the main 3 schmucks across europe so they're obviously out of ideas.

Maybe they'll have one of them run for political office? IDK, the well of ideas has been dry for quite some time now.

Firefly was a decent show, but frankly I see it going downhill fast after or even during season 2. I think it's early death was a mercy.

I enjoyed Firefly but its biggest flaw was Joss Whedon forced in the same Weird Teenage Girl (tm) character he always shoehorns into his shows. If River Tam were a Roy Batty style super soldier instead of some ambiguously psychic waif then I might have been more on board but she felt out of place. Malcolm Reynolds, the most interesting and likable character in the whole cast, was ostensibly the protagonist but was on the fast track to becoming a supporter character in favor of River.

I absolutely do not care about Adventure Time that I find bland and mediocre after trying a few episodes.

I gave up on Game of Thrones after starting the second episode and stopped caring about the whole thing.

I am genuinely surprised that Game of Thrones gets so much coverage and referencing by the media, compared to Breaking Bad.

Dinosaurs is so, so underrated. Watching episodes of it now, it hasn't aged and is still very relevant today. Plus, it has beautiful sets and puppetry.
