Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I've started to grow bored with games more and more the farther away from school I've gotten.

The only people that I know that *really* get hyped for games and aren't kids are literally on the verge of being retards, and many of them dropped out lol
Last game I was genuinely excited for was RE2R. Before that? MGS4 probably. I barely play anything nowadays and when I do, it's mostly shit I grew up with.

MWII is a failure if you think about it. It couldn't live up to the original's legacy OR the 2019's evolution of the franchise. They tried to have it be "edgy" but ends up bloating the campaign with exposition and overindulge on character development.
MWII's campaign was an overly serious, turgid shitheap that reminded me more of EA's failed Medal of Honor reboot than the Michael Baysplosion thrill rides of the 360 era. It was just really, really boring.

I'm not laying this all at Microsoft's feet; but the introduction of the XBOX and Halo had a massive push of catapulting videogames into the mainstream.

Yes, back before Microsoft managed to sell around 8 million units of Halo, making first-person shooters mainstream, they were really a more niche affair. While today, Goldeneye is fondly remembered, you have to keep in mind that it only sold around 8 million units.

I mean all entertainment is.

What, you don't think reading "50 shades of grey" has some actual significance.

I am not, repeat not trying to be a contrarian or anything but...yes, books have MORE value than vidya. Books demand attention span and imagination, vidya do not and that's that. Now, this is where spergs might bait and go in with the well akshchually with some ooc comparison, yeah sure we can "debate" if a hot flaming heap of dumb trash like 50 shades is more "worth" your time than something like, I don't know, Skyrim?

But Skyrim is only good if you play it in a way no human on this planet ever played it, and that metric is called "for a week or two", at best. What I mean by that is, in those first days of a objectively interesting and imaginative vidya like Skyrim, you can almost make it like your own movie or something, which in return might spark some cognitive wheels in your head and you might get some imagination/creativity going.

Of course what I'm typing is just pure larp because no one ever played a game like that for a week, people are animal scum and they will gorge on shit as long as you keep funneling shit thru their blowhole IF you make sure they're comfy enough while you're delivering the turds. As long as they're comfy, they will play vidya, they'll do infinite mods and infinite replays with different mods and then a new game will come, and then they'll play that, then they'll go back to Skyrim "for nostalgia" (muh vanilla Skyrim I might do a new build why not heh I deserve it) and whatever, and like a drug addict, they will go down the same road of wasting time and fishing for low quality wish.com dopamine as another 800 hours go down the abyss in the MUH VIDYA life.

To conclude, gayming was better before in boomer times because you had to figure it out on your own and be somewhat of a proper computer nerd unlike todays faggot youtube / forum take my hand tell me how to install this mod and waste 600 hours pls thanks, old games back in the day were so lame, it was just a vehicle to spark peoples imagination, your brain had to work in overdrive to make something out of those 4 pixels on the screen. Now it's all hyperrealistic because people are hyperdumb and they need hyperslop for their hyperjewd brains. And apart from that genius faggot who replied to me how he learned Python (lmfao) because of vidya, just like I learned how to build and sell bridges (I played a lot of Bridge Tycoon as a kid), we end up from the good ole "whaaat, it's just a lil computer gaym??" to this

Great success and I hope people would play more video games, you know people have stressful lives and they absolutely need to unwind, relax, hangout, play, why the hell not!?

I believe it.

Not even just school, work as well. With how greedy games are getting, buying a game doesn't get you everything anymore.

I think games like The Last of Us 2 with it's pseudo interactivity are generally worse than games with longer purely uninteractive cutscenes like Metal Gear purely because the line of separation allows the game parts of the game to be good and the movie parts to be skippable.

Ive played every Metal Gear about ten times because I can skip shit I'm not interested in for the most part but can't stomach going through nu GoW or Last of Us more than once or twice because the games have so much boring bullshit.

SEGA sound effects sucked dick. None of the SFX had any impact, because they were either bitcrushed farts or some variation of BROOONNNG/BOING/SPWEEEB/WEYYUURRR.

Compared to the SNES it was a polka-dotted clown that abhorred the idea of a fight or its consequences.

The cheaters that I dislike are the ones that looks up exploits and glitches to use right at the start or even before they play the game. Games like Dark souls and Elden Ring can be used as examples. There are players that never fought [some boss] because they had already looked up an exploit and knew that you could crouch in a specific corner and craft/shoot 2,500 fletchless arrows with the starting bow instead of ever engaging in combat. They think they outsmarted the game.
They do these things and then return to the overall game discussion. What they don't realize is that they are now gameplay mongoloids because they played the game in a retarded way.
Dark Souls I deserves to be cheated.

Genuinely interesting and unique take, but what you say makes perfect sense and has convinced me.
Some open world games have options to skip the boring listen-to-dialogue-while-driving-or-riding-your-horse part.

At the surface this is a spicy opinion, but it is not: I don't like people that cheat in single player games.
All weapons in GTA or similar games, that's fine, you're making your own fun, those cheats are implemented for a reason.

Brianna Wu is a good example of one of these people, hesitant of getting into games like DS and ER without first learning if there are any exploits for infinite souls/runes, what is the most unintentionally overpowered build, what can be cheesed and so on, then bragging about having all this expert knowledge and how he outsmarted the game.
I don't know if it's a pride thing that streamers have and they don't want to look dumb in front of their audience? I can't decide how someone wishes to enjoy a game when they're on their own but spoiling yourself of discovery and looking into exploits before even launching the game is such an alien, bizarre thing to do imo. I think there are acceptable things to look up for like "starter tips" or easily missable stuff, or things the game might not explain properly (hi Dark Souls), but why do people need to know full builds and exploits? Like, at least experience the game a little bit first, take a dip in the world and get your butt tossed around, then start looking up for advice, good builds, etc.

Definitely an unpopular opinion on Reddit but this post bugs the shit out of me.

If "Let me solo her" ruined your experience with Melania you did not beat the game. There is nothing correct about handing someone else control of your boss fight and letting them carry you through it. This retard became a meme and got rewarded by Bandai Namco for ruining other player's experiences. I expect him to be a summon or NPC in the DLC and for every nut hugging redditor to try and copy him next time a souls game is released. Another player beating a boss for you is not your victory. You cheat yourself out of the accomplishment and you spoil your own experience. And when you run into a boss who requires you to know how to play the game by beating past bosses you're going to lack the tools needed for that boss and have to ruin that experience to.

Every souls game should be beaten solo your first time through. Elden Ring is balanced around using spirit ashes and figuring out which help and which to use (Always Mimic tear..) is part of the experience. Someone soloing the boss you only aggro to let them chug isn't an experience at all. And you're a sad fuck if you try to ruin people's games like this to become famous on Reddit.

Why is a book more valuable than a text adventure or visual novel, or maybe even point & click or JRPGs? Those are similar to books, in fact the first two are very similar to books.

You might be right if you narrow games down to the mindless ones, but you didn't. Even then, there's worthless books too.

Should we tell him about the old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books?
