I can tolerate a little Dream Theater here and there but no one gives a fuck about how many times you change to a weird time signature except speds.progressive metal is inherently pseudointellectual and sucks as a result

I think too many people listen to a prog rock/metal/whatever song once, don't immediately get it, and give up on the entire genre as "pseudointellectual".progressive metal is inherently pseudointellectual and sucks as a result
I like a chunk of classic prog rock (Peter Gabriel era Genesis and Jethro Tull in particular). I get nothing out of bands like Meshuggah though.I think too many people listen to a prog rock/metal/whatever song once, don't immediately get it, and give up on the entire genre as "pseudointellectual".
Complexity can obviously be used for dick-waving, but it can also be used to really good musical effect. The most fun musical complexity is the subtle stuff you don't necessarily pick up on until you start digging into what makes a piece of music tick and realize it's really, really fucking hard.
They have rappers in there. They might as well just call it the Music Hall of Fame at this point if they're gonna start putting pop musicians in it.I still don’t get why A Tribe Called Quest is being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. They made three great albums, but they’re not “rock and roll”.
Exactly. They're just pulling shit out of their ass at this point. They have rappers in there. They might as well just call it the Music Hall of Fame at this point if they're gonna start putting pop musicians in it.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has always been a pop Hall of Fame due to the fact most bands in there have a pop crossover. They have rappers in there. They might as well just call it the Music Hall of Fame at this point if they're gonna start putting pop musicians in it.
Lemmy is treated the way he is due to his personality and the type of "give no fucks" person he was (beyond his feminism). Dude literally just wanted to drink, play slots and fuck. If that isn't peak masculinity, I don't know what is. Sure Motorhead itself is overrated, but Lemmy was a great representative for Metal and it's culture.Lemmy Kilmister is incredibly overrated in everything. I never got the cult of personality around him.
Symphony X is one of my favorite bands and they are a hallmark of progressive metal, what I hate is garbage like Mehspurggah that is two note Nu-Metal rebranded as Progressive for having shitty Joe Rogan lyrics and in some "odd time signature." It doesn't take a genius or virtuoso to play basic rhythms in an odd time signature, Breathe by Disturbed is in 13/8 but no redditor gives a fuck about that because its butt rock and not a ZOMGSOCOMPLEX band that transcends time and space with DMT into the Joe Rogan dimension. Melodic and tonal complexity coupled with an odd time signature such as with Revocation or Symphony X that still manages to sound good is much better and is a lot harder to pull off than just purely rhythmic garbage or structureless guitar wankery.I think too many people listen to a prog rock/metal/whatever song once, don't immediately get it, and give up on the entire genre as "pseudointellectual".

Who hates the Monkees? Apparently this soulless dip.Fuck the hall though honestly, the guy who owns it needs to get over his hateboner for The Monkees.
Honestly, Lemmy wasn't even much of a feminist at all. He was just a guy who didn't outright hate women and enjoyed their company. There's a recent interview he gave where he was talking about his dislike of annoying feminists and how they just complained about nothing, but his progressivism at the time, not even just for women but for gays and black people was pretty different and imo, respectable. He was liberal without being an self righteous asshole about itI never "got" Prog music as a whole. I had friends into that sort of stuff like Yes and Dream Theater. I tried listening to that stuff and it did nothing. Closest bands to that genre that I've listened to and liked are Rush and Pink Floyd. Maybe it's because I don't smoke weed or anything like that.

This is very true. Then again, he was pretty feminist for his time.Honestly, Lemmy wasn't even much of a feminist at all. He was just a guy who didn't outright hate women and enjoyed their company.
