Unpopular views about music

Avant-garde is the way to go for finding a lot of good shit from within the last 5 years.
Was almost going to reflexively click disagree because I have an autistic hang-up over praise of anything avant-garde, but I'll be fair. What recent avant-garde music do you think is good shit?

Skrillex dindu nuffin and that there’s whole swaths of people who will go to their graves acting like him unwittingly popularizing the “wrong” dubstep was tantamount to him personally kicking their dogs is as funny as it is annoying. I’m not even sure if that is or isn’t an unpopular opinion, and I’ll cop to being biased towards him, but going full stolen valor-autistic over computer noises is fucking stupid. People have had nearly fifteen years to get over it, yet in that time they’ve made full mini-documentaries over it. It’s so dumb.

the supposed "allure" behind Lana Del Rey
You got it spot-on with “MacBook-driven angst”, though I’ll add that Rey and her spiritual successors instantly lose all of their appeal as soon as you stop “locking in” to that angst, even with her target audience. Every time I see her name, I clearly remember having been into her for maybe two months before having a moment of clarity, going “good god this shit is boring”, and moving on to something more interesting.
Her, Halsey, Eilish—they’re “alt” Taylor Swifts insofar they all serve the same function, and I’m pretty sure the women into them have just as little internal monologue as Swifties (to steal an idea from that thread).

Wasn't particularly in avant-garde for its own sake, its just the weird region I ended up at when checking out increasingly obscure jazz/electronic artists.

Looking back now, she's not the greatest lyricist. I still love the actual music production on Honeymoon and certain songs from Born to Die, but the singing and song content itself? It's kind of laughable.
Every song is just "I would die for muh baby + vague references to old money and the furious fifties sprinkled in." It gets old. Really fast.

The Guns and Roses singer ruins good music with his shrill, whiny and nasal singing. The instrumental bits are catchy, have variety and convey the themes of their songs well, but once the vocals drop, it ruins the song for me.
While this is the unpopular views thread, I'm still going to disagree. Dude has a vocal range of five octaves. For reference, that's wider than Mariah Carey and that's without vocal fry. At least at the height of his career. A vocal range that wide fades fast after your 20s.
Beck has like 5 good songs
As long as I'm retardedly posting popular opinions in this thread, I think all of Mellow Gold was top notch.

You cannot disagree with my unpopular opinion, you broke the law and the coppers are onto you. Enjoy prison music stalker.

Joking aside, I agree with you, he has a huge vocal range and has talent, but it is the tone and color of his voice that's ruining it for me.

The Beatles must have been a psyop, to see how much low quality garbage you can push the music market and keep people engaged with it. With enough aggressive advertisement, you can fool the masses into accepting shit music as “good” music. Name a single good Beatles song… you fucking can not do it, they all suck!
Holy shit, I can’t name another big name with turds to a so-called “discography”. Bob Dylan? Drake? Seriously, go and listen to them and tell me this wasn’t psychological warfare in audio format.

Well, if we consider it's British music in this case, these are my personal favorites from that area:

Oasis (and their individual careers)

Feed Me
No, this is not a hyperborean reference

Nom De Strip

Some other British Bong artists that are much better than the bowl haircut gang:
So yeah, The Beatles got nothing going on, worth remembering.

Mac Miller’s Swimming is an under appreciated album that was only liked due to him dying of a drug overdose. When I listened to it for the first time when he was alive, I initially knew no one was going to listen to this with a serious face.

Plus, his Watching Movies With The Sound Off album is very underrated and should be listened to more.
