A global education survey has revealed an “unprecedented” decline in academic progress in many countries.

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey, published on Tuesday, is the first such study since the COVID-19 pandemic and showed the historic setbacks suffered by students.

The average international mathematics score fell by 15 points since the 2018 tests, the equivalent of three-quarters of a year of learning, reading fell by the equivalent of half a year, with only science scores remaining more or less the same.

Twenty points is seen as equivalent to a year of learning.

PISA is carried out every three years by the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and tests 15-year-old students’ knowledge in maths, reading and science across 81 countries and regions.

“The PISA 2022 results show a fall in student performance that is unprecedented in [the survey’s] history,” OECD education analyst Irene Hu said.

The usual survey schedule was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic and the overall results from 2022 reflected the changes since the previous tests in 2018 across both rich and poor nations, eliciting concern from officials.

It was administered in 2022 to a sample of 15-year-olds in 37 OECD member countries plus 44 other partner nations. The OECD has been conducting the test since 2000.

In the United States, despite President Joe Biden’s investments in education, including $190bn in pandemic relief that the US Congress sent to schools, Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said that the country’s maths scores remain “stubbornly low”.

“We cannot be complacent at home,” he said, “not when math is critical to our global competitiveness and leadership.”

European decline

European countries also showed a particularly sharp decline.

Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway and Poland were among countries that saw notably lower achievements in maths, the report showed. While in other countries, “the average 15-year-old in 2022 scored at the level expected of a 14-year-old in 2018,” the report said.

Germany and France scored in the lower ranks among European countries, with German pupils performing worse than ever in reading, maths and science in what OECD education analyst Eric Charbonnier called a “worrying” decline.

Countries such as Germany, Iceland and the Netherlands saw drops of 25 points or more in maths scores.

While some of the decline is likely due to school shutdowns and interruptions during COVID-19, “long-term issues in education systems are also to blame for the drop in performance,” the report said.

“It is not just about Covid,” OECD analysts said, arguing that the issue is systemic.

A key factor is “the level of support pupils received from teachers and school staff”, according to Irene Hu.

Charbonnier agreed that “countries have invested in education over the past 10 years, but maybe they didn’t invest efficiently, or sufficiently into the quality of teaching”.

Andreas Schleicher, OECD education and skills director, highlighted that there are lessons to be taken from the report.

“There are underlying structural factors and they are much more likely to be permanent features of our education systems that policymakers should really take seriously,” he said.

Asia dominates

Asian students dominated the list with many outperforming their peers elsewhere in the world showing years worth of advancement.

Singapore took the top ranking in the latest assessment, with the “results [suggesting] that, on average, Singaporean students are the equivalent of almost three to five years of schooling ahead of their peers,” the report said.

Five other Asian education systems – in Macao, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea – came next in maths, and also scored near the top in reading and science.

Happiness matters

For the first time, the survey also focused on the mental state of students, using nine aspects of their lives to measure their wellbeing, showing correlation between academic performance and anxiety.

In the high-performing countries “many students reported a high fear of failure and limited engagement in extracurricular activities such as sports”.

In lower-performing countries, students engaged more in physical and team activities, resulting in “lower levels of anxiety and a greater focus on sports”.

The indicators included engagement with school, material and cultural wellbeing, openness to diversity and psychological wellbeing.

It surely is alone the system, not the lower IQ of migrants.
While this is surely part of the reason that isn't the only thing, because this trend is also shown in white kids, and white european countries that have taken in a very low amount of migrants like Poland and Iceland. Well low compared to the fucking millions France and Germany have taken in anyway. Hell I'm willing to bet if it was just brown kids and no white kids the media would be saying some shit like "These racist systems are keeping them down!" instead "wow every kid is turning retarded!"

While the reasons are multi faceted I can't help but wonder how much of this is by design, incompetence, or as a result of living in clownworld full of social media. I mean shit are people even reading to their kids anymore or are they just going "eh school will take care of it for me! Time to work 9-5 at the ball crushing factory!"

Its things like this that make me wonder if the future will be Asian, specifically East Asian but SEA is showing strides as well. The societies are homogeneous, the cultures spout the betterment of society over the individual, and perhaps most importantly they actually teach their fucking kids. Even in the Asian nations that aren't homogenous like Singapore, and the Philippines you have a efficient dictatorship in one, and presidents like based "if you deal drugs your graves been dug" Duterte in the other.

This is of course assuming they can deal with their collapsing birth rates, and the millions of Chinese boys that will inevitably become incels since there won't be enough women in their generation to even be able to find someone of similar age.

"Serfs don't need to read" is 100% something members of the WEF have said more than once.
It's certainly not a new idea. Sci-fi writers like Neal Stephenson have envisioned near-future dystopias for years where working class people just use icons, emojis and glyphs. Press the food button for food. Press the porn button for porn. Etc. This sort of science fiction is widely read among Bill Gates and company.

It's because of that Paulo Freire "whole word" reading bullshit, isn't it?
Whole word reading is catastrophic, can confirm on a very personal example, but it's probably not the explanation here, as other countries have sunk, too.
That said, whole word reading is a symptom of a greater governance problem, recently formulated by @Eternal Gopnik here, w.r.t. shitty UI:
1. Company hires in-house design/"UX" faggots.
2. Said faggots need something to put in their weekly and quarterly reports, they can't just sit there and wait till something actually needs designing.
3. Faggots keep constantly making "cutting-edge" "improvements" to the user interface that only piss off users and the best you can hope is they don't break anything too badly.

Do not hire in-house designers, ever, under any circumstances. Hire a freelancer and then kick him to the curb when finished.
Large adult daughters with relevant degrees will be fucking up education, unless actively resisted.

However,
The US is actually doing ok on reading.
Whites are doing ok for whites, blacks are doing ok for blacks, Hispanics are doing ok for Hispanics.
US scores are falling because of the Great Replacement, not because the edumacation is getting this much worse.

However x2:
The tests are very westernized. Even the concept of picking the correct answer out of several options is more recent than you think and might not have penetrated everywhere. Many second- and third-world children will have never seen a reading test before they take PISA. Test-taking is a trainable skill, and the schools and traditions which routinely do these tests during class win at PISA.

It's certainly not a new idea. Sci-fi writers like Neal Stephenson have envisioned near-future dystopias for years where working class people just use icons, emojis and glyphs.
Star Wars originally didn't have writing.

You know, my local newspaper ran an article on this. How the pandemic caused test scores to plummet. Being the snark ass I am, I took a look at test scores from 2000 to now and everything across America has been on a steady decline ; Yet, the only thing they want to pin the blame on is the Pandemic. ( Even the return of Polio is blamed on the Pandemic, despite that shit returning in 2013 due to jewish antivaxxers declaring vaccines are evil. )

No one wants to blame Common Core, no one wants to blame the massive cuts to Education, no one wants to blame mindless internet shit (porn, gaming, e-fame,etc.) consuming children earlier and earlier. No one wants to blame the lack of quality educational tv shows. It's insane.

Looking at the big picture is so fucking depressing when you realize no one else is looking with you.

Because it isn't any of those things, it's legit two things.

1. Scores are being lowered due to migrants/Mexican kids who are trying to learn English quite poorly.
2. All teachers in the past five years are fat white retarded women who refuse to teach anything practical. Even with common core or not, it doesn't stop these teachers from being fucking worthless and obese.

Any idiot can legitimately find educational interests in two seconds. You can search "History" on podcasts alone and get like twenty million different things. Fortnight and E-Fame are not affecting niggas ability to read, lol.
