My favorite thing is how the guy behind the project said he really didn't care that much about Muslim countries and then died of a freak fungal infection.

SCG was a really creative project, really liked them when I was younger because they have some nice edge to them but I still like to listen from time to time.

I don't have this particular album, but I bought the Ensemble's debut album on ECM, Toward the Margins, based on rave reviews. I was all WTF when I first listened to it, because I was expecting simple fusion of jazz and electronic music. Decade later I have grown to love it for its novel sounds. It was the late 1990s, the days of listservs and Majordomo, and some people on the ECM mailing list did not hide their outrage. Steve Lake, the album's producer who also wrote the long but unreadable booklet notes, responded in kind like a bitch. Good times.

Muslimgauze has always been one of my favorite artists not just because of his sheer profile but also because of the music itself. Dude was for real ahead of his time imho - Azzazin is probably the only album that made my ears physically tickle. The album you linked is probably my favorite but Narcotic is up there as well for me.

His interviews are pretty interesting but I personally think it's a stretch to say that he didn't care. I'm of the belief that he did genuinely care despite never visiting those countries (he gave a vaguely political reason in the line of "I don't believe in visiting occupied land", take that as you will), and preferred to use his music as a vehicle for his beliefs. He also didn't do a lot of live shows either for what it's worth, he was pretty involved in his own creations.

That being said, as much as I can appreciate stuff like Vatican Shadow, I'd rather just listen to the OG Muslimgauze.

The most abrasive thing I "like" is probably this track by Current 93. After the piano plinking intro it undergoes a complete psychotic breakdown and gets fucking evil. Ends with a jumpscare.

The weirdest thing I like which is actually pleasant is probably something by Venetian Snares. The guy varies a lot per album within his style, but the first track from Songs About My Cats is a good example.

I think my favorite VSnares album is Doll Doll Doll. Not sure if I'd call the album "pleasant" though lol. It definitely got me into breakcore as a whole and noise by extension.

Songs About My Cats is great. I think the reason I like Detrimentalist so much is cause it reminds me of that album in some parts.

(PS: C93 is good stuff)

Doll Doll Doll is great too. In fact, VS is one of those artists where I like a large number of albums about equally. Each album has a lot of character. Got a particular soft spot for Cavalcade [...] when I'm doing some work or whatever.

There aren't a lot of duds in his discog but I certainly have my favorites hah. Even the albums of his that I don't particularly care for still have their moments.

I almost never choose to listen to this album but this song fucks:

I used to study to Natural Snow Buildings, Hala Strana, and DI6 when I was in high school but now my study music is mostly goa trance and ambient techno. I keep this one in rotation:

"My Favorite Things", a mostly unrecognizable cover of the jazz standard, from the sub-fecally recorded second-to-last concert by John Coltrane (overlong bass solo ends at 7:30). Spoiler, contrary to album art he doesn't play flute on the song

Late Coltrane in general though I gather is very challenging. I don't know about it myself but I know what I like...

There was a duo of keyboardists called Ferrante and Teicher that were around from the late 40's to the late-70's. While most of their catalog is easy listening and piano-based pop, occasionally, they would delve into some very strange stuff as they also made some very unusual experimental albums during the 1950's.

One such album is their Soundproof album from 1958. What makes this album interesting, is that Ferrante and Teicher somehow managed to mimic the sounds of several other acoustic instruments using a pair of ordinary acoustic concert pianos. There is also an undercurrent of science fiction in the way the tones are presented. The album itself is a collection of popular Latin American jazz songs and music from the era, but I have never heard anything like it before or since.

This was actually a hit various places in Europe (5 on the charts in Italy, 2 on the charts in Wallonia). Italian singer wrote a completely meaningless song, with lyrics meant to sound English if you don't listen too closely:

The first part of what you said is not true, at all. The complete opposite is the case:

edit: my favorite muslimgauze song

Paul Chain, another Italian artist, used a phonetic singing style which almost resembles a language in his career. Kinda eerie.

I was definitely hardcore misremembering that since both you and @Barbarism are correct.

That whole scene is pretty good in my opinion and that's and excellent one. I prefer Current 93's evil sound and spoken word oveir their more folksy stuff.
Personal favorite:
