Disaster Updates on the Las Vegas Shooting - this is not the shitposting thread you are looking for

Thankfully, we have a great thread for all of your retarded arguments about gun control or whatever is going on in there at the moment, but for the rest of us there is a ton of shit coming out so we'll keep track of it here. If you want to argue like a retard, once again, the containment thread is perfect for that. So fuck off with that shit in here. Same with speculations. Keep this thread mostly for hard facts and discussion of said facts.

Basic Bitches Facts

  • 59 people were killed (including the gunman), and according to police sources, at least 527 were injured.
  • The shooter is Stephen Paddock, 64, from the area.
  • The FBI said he was believed to have acted alone.
  • He opened fired on the Route 91 Harvest Country Music festival in Las Vegas
  • About 22,000 people were attending the festival at the time
  • His sniper nest was in a corner room he rented on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel & Casino
  • 23 guns were found in his hotel room, with another 24 at his various, alongside explosives and thousands of rounds.

Facts about the victims
  • Multiple portraits of the victims have been published so far, if you want to get really depressed.
  • Three of them have yet to be identified
  • It's also important to remember: a lot of the victims are in critical condition and the death toll may keep rising, unfortunately.

The Updates:

This is where it gets interesting:

What Stephen Paddock did was highly professional. According to the last press conference by Undersheriff McMahill, two cameras were set up in the hallway in order to see SWAT team approaching, as well as one through the hotel room's peephole. Additionally, Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside of the room filming himself and possibly streaming it.

The Las Vegas gunman responsible for shooting over 550 people reportedly filmed himself during the rampage, according to multiple reports.

The latest revelation into shooter Stephen Paddock on Tuesday is that he had cameras set up in the hallway to know when police were closing in on his position but also reportedly had a device recording him in his hotel room as he fired upon thousands of concertgoers.

“Las Vegas madman Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside his hotel room to capture his deadly shooting rampage — and other surveillance in the hallway to alert him as cops closed in on him,” the New York Post reported.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Tuesday that the FBI is reviewing all the footage recovered from the crime scene.

In the weeks prior to the shooting, Stephen Paddock wired $100,000 to the Philippines, Australia and possibly the Middle-East. He also recently visited Dubai according to certain reports, as did Marilou Danley.

First called a person of interest, then unrelated to the shooting, now she is back on the FBI's shitlist and still in the Philippines. There are reports she might be on her way back to answer questions but there is no certainty either way right now.

Leaked pictures have shown he left a note behind, but we still do not know what was written on it

And in case you didn't think he was already enough of a monster, turns out he used to work for the IRS

The Charlotte Observer reports:

The Las Vegas gunman who killed nearly 60 people at a country music festival worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, an IRS agent and in an auditing department over a 10-year period.

A spokeswoman for the Office of Personnel Management told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Stephen Paddock's employment included about two years as a mail carrier from 1976 to 1978.

After that, he worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for six years until 1984. And then he worked a defense auditing job for about 18 months.

Paddock also previously worked as a defense contractor sometime during the late 80s, and graduated college from Cal State Northridge in 1977.

The next Hitler is probably a DMV employee

Wasn't his dad a professional criminal who evaded police for years? I'm curious how someone with as fucked up a family history as this man managed to work for the government in multiple roles before his death.

Like, wouldn't the son of a bank robber who lasted nearly 10 years on the FBI most wanted list be subject to above average scrutiny when it came to the feds employing this motherfucker?

Did he actually shoot 550 people? I would have assumed that most of the injured would have been trampled.

ETA: He was a defense contractor/auditor?

Remember Falling Down?

It's unlikely that he actually shot and hit 500+ individual people. What likely happened was bullets hitting multiple people due to them being in a large crowd.

The guns that Paddock used included several DDM4 and FN-15 rifles, an AR-15, and an AK-47 assault rifle. He also had multiple shotguns, revolvers, etc.

Though it's against the law to buy or sell fully automatic weapons, he was able to buy semiautomatic guns legally and convert them. Multiple gun store owners have confirmed that he bought the guns from them.

Several of the guns had other modifications, including special clips that could hold more ammunition, bump stocks (which let him shoot faster), and a high-powered scope.

All of the guns must have been very expensive, costing $5,000-$10,000 each.

getting some husband/wife team vibes like with San Bernardino. Wife is mysteriously off in another country when the attack happens, huge amounts of money being wired, and FBI still hasn't heard from her? Isn't Duerte in the middle of fighting off a huge ISIS insurgency in the Phillippines?

Honestly, if there really were 22,000 people in that crowd, I'm surprised he only killed 59 or so (as of this post). I have a feeling he could have done a hell of a lot more damage with an 18 wheeler or even a truck bomb (he had the materials and probably the knowledge to create one).

Bump fire stocks, for all the hype, are largely an impractical, overrated range toy. It's possible he had a Hellfire type trigger reset and/or a crank device. There is a device called HyperGAT that enables fast fire on a semi-auto with a crank fire mechanism. I don't know if he had one, but it basically is a manual crank that squeezes the trigger repeatedly. Because it is human powered it is legal in most states.

And one more thing, I get that some people really dislike country music (especially faux-Southern, pop-country stuff for radio), but don't you think he took it a little too far?

In all seriousness, it's a good thing the guy is dead and not on the run or detained. That would be a much more difficult and expensive thing, even if he should stand trial for what he did.

Was he killed by SWAT? All the articles I've seen report that he committed suicide as they approached the room.

Judging by the handgun in the upper part of the image he most likely shot himself with the gun in his mouth; the bullet possibly exiting though the back of his head. That's why his blood is around the bullet casings and not splattered all over them.

the worst part of this is that this means we're not getting that new vegas remastered people have been speculating about

She's arrived/arriving back to the States and is being detained, so it looks like that might be the case, though there's not much there yet.

To be honest if we can get some sort of closer from her soon that would be great. I know it can't bring the deceased back to life, nor heal the injured of their wounds. But something is better than nothing in my opinion.
