Disaster Updates on the Las Vegas Shooting - this is not the shitposting thread you are looking for

Thankfully, we have a great thread for all of your retarded arguments about gun control or whatever is going on in there at the moment, but for the rest of us there is a ton of shit coming out so we'll keep track of it here. If you want to argue like a retard, once again, the containment thread is perfect for that. So fuck off with that shit in here. Same with speculations. Keep this thread mostly for hard facts and discussion of said facts.

Basic Bitches Facts

  • 59 people were killed (including the gunman), and according to police sources, at least 527 were injured.
  • The shooter is Stephen Paddock, 64, from the area.
  • The FBI said he was believed to have acted alone.
  • He opened fired on the Route 91 Harvest Country Music festival in Las Vegas
  • About 22,000 people were attending the festival at the time
  • His sniper nest was in a corner room he rented on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel & Casino
  • 23 guns were found in his hotel room, with another 24 at his various, alongside explosives and thousands of rounds.

Facts about the victims
  • Multiple portraits of the victims have been published so far, if you want to get really depressed.
  • Three of them have yet to be identified
  • It's also important to remember: a lot of the victims are in critical condition and the death toll may keep rising, unfortunately.

The Updates:

This is where it gets interesting:

What Stephen Paddock did was highly professional. According to the last press conference by Undersheriff McMahill, two cameras were set up in the hallway in order to see SWAT team approaching, as well as one through the hotel room's peephole. Additionally, Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside of the room filming himself and possibly streaming it.

The Las Vegas gunman responsible for shooting over 550 people reportedly filmed himself during the rampage, according to multiple reports.

The latest revelation into shooter Stephen Paddock on Tuesday is that he had cameras set up in the hallway to know when police were closing in on his position but also reportedly had a device recording him in his hotel room as he fired upon thousands of concertgoers.

“Las Vegas madman Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside his hotel room to capture his deadly shooting rampage — and other surveillance in the hallway to alert him as cops closed in on him,” the New York Post reported.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Tuesday that the FBI is reviewing all the footage recovered from the crime scene.

In the weeks prior to the shooting, Stephen Paddock wired $100,000 to the Philippines, Australia and possibly the Middle-East. He also recently visited Dubai according to certain reports, as did Marilou Danley.

First called a person of interest, then unrelated to the shooting, now she is back on the FBI's shitlist and still in the Philippines. There are reports she might be on her way back to answer questions but there is no certainty either way right now.

Leaked pictures have shown he left a note behind, but we still do not know what was written on it

And in case you didn't think he was already enough of a monster, turns out he used to work for the IRS

The Charlotte Observer reports:

The Las Vegas gunman who killed nearly 60 people at a country music festival worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, an IRS agent and in an auditing department over a 10-year period.

A spokeswoman for the Office of Personnel Management told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Stephen Paddock's employment included about two years as a mail carrier from 1976 to 1978.

After that, he worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for six years until 1984. And then he worked a defense auditing job for about 18 months.

Paddock also previously worked as a defense contractor sometime during the late 80s, and graduated college from Cal State Northridge in 1977.

The next Hitler is probably a DMV employee

Marilou is looking more and more odd as time goes on. This discusses her marital situation and where she is atm.

I had thought she fled immediately. But it looks like she had been in the Philipines and possibly Hong Kong or Japan too for awhile.

On her own, Ms. Danley could be friendly. Connie Allred, a 68-year-old retired dental receptionist, occasionally attended Zumba classes with Ms. Danley at the subdivision’s clubhouse. She described Ms. Danley as a warm “world traveler” who went abroad several times a year and visited family in the Philippines and Los Angeles.

“She was always gone,” Ms. Allred said. “She’s a hard one to keep track of. We’d be in Zumba and then all of a sudden she would say, ‘I’m leaving for a couple months,’ and then she’d be back and then she’s traveling other places.”

Philippine immigration officials said Ms. Danley left Manila on Sept. 22 for a trip to Hong Kong and returned on Sept. 25.

Eric Paddock, Mr. Paddock’s youngest brother, said his brother loved Ms. Danley and doted on her. For her part, he said, Ms. Danley made compromises like doing without perfume, hair spray and bubble baths in order to not set off his allergies. Though his brother was a multimillionaire, he said, he did not believe she was with him because he had money.

Some people who knew Mr. Paddock said he could take on an imperious, exacting demeanor. But with Ms. Danley, he was different, Eric Paddock said.

“She was probably one of the only people I’ve ever seen that he’d go out of his way to do a little thing for,” he said. “He went out of his way to be nice to her. This is not something Steve does — go out of his way.”

He added: “Steve expected people to wait on him for the most part. But he waited on her sometimes. He would do what she wanted to do. He would defer to her in the way that he wouldn’t to the rest of humanity. Even me.”

It sounds very strange that she was going away for months at a time. She could have been in the Philippines. I'm curious to see what's really going on with her.

Marilou has arrived at LAX.
In a wheelchair for some reason...

The Indonesians and Filipinos I have known that go overseas a lot, usually do/can coz they're running some kind of scam. Mostly the Indonesians, but still, they seem to always have a lot of money to keep flying back and forth, but that's from Aus to SE Asia so not that expensive. Since she's an Australian Filo, I'd bet she isn't squeaky clean.

It is interesting if you compare to other spree shooters. Those guys have documented histories of their path to becoming killers. You can connect the dots from the start to the end. It just amazes me this guy literally has nothing, that we are aware of yet. I know his wife's family said he was unstable but so far everyone else said he was just a dude who kept to himself.

Honestly, if there really were 22,000 people in that crowd, I'm surprised he only killed 59 or so (as of this post). I have a feeling he could have done a hell of a lot more damage with an 18 wheeler or even a truck bomb (he had the materials and probably the knowledge to create one).
.
I think I remember, from pictures of the venue, that there was a flimsy barrier marking out the concert-goer area, but there were cement barriers around that, the temp ones you see around construction. I've noticed those showing up a lot around outdoor events. I went to the fair recently, and it used to have traffic cones around the entrance to show where to go, and now it uses those concrete barriers. Hell, I went to a street fair recently, and one end was block by two big-ass police SUVs, and the other was blocked by firetrucks.

I'm betting there were enough concrete barriers to make doing a truck of Peace run difficult.

I'm betting there were enough concrete barriers to make doing a truck of Peace run would've been difficult.

In theory, it would be more difficult for most vehicles, but I'm sure a vehicle with enough torque and a crash bumper could overcome most of that. I've seen concrete pyramids called "dragon's teeth" like what were used on the beaches of Normandy in World War II being used at my local parking garage, so sometimes the simplest lines of defense can be the best.

Vegas is a densely crowded and populated city in any case, and even if a Truck of Peace were to have some challenges, I'm sure it could have taken out a substantial number of people regardless of obstacles. Or the guy could have done a combination attack (truck bomb, firearm attack, etc.)

I'm sure this guy could have gotten almost anything he wanted vehicle-wise if he decided to go that route, after all, there was the case of the Killdozer in 2004, where a guy built his own tank out of a Komatsu bulldozer with composite armor and cameras and everything. And that guy didn't have nearly as much money as Paddock did.

Aside from semantics and splitting hairs, I'm just tired of people trying to push agendas that nobody gives a shit about, and publishing deliberately misleading articles to fool the ill informed.

You would think that but alot of concrete barriers are stronger then they look. I once saw a tractor trailer slam right into one. Granted it was only going 10-15 miles per hour but the barriers pretty much killed the front end of the tractor. The barriers moved but not enough where the trailer would have gotten through. But I do agree. The Strip is one of those places that always has people out and about and even in the street at times. Had this asshole decided to go with a truck bomb combo, it could have been alot worse.

The self-filming thing might be just narcissism, or perhaps he made some statement on camera. We'll probably have to wait until the police release something, unless there's a recorded stream somewhere.

I'm curious how someone with as fucked up a family history as this man managed to work for the government in multiple roles before his death.
:powerlevel:I've worked for the government and in secret military projects (not as interesting as you would think). One member of my family is a convicted criminal & political activist, and another was involved in an explosives incident. Nobody's ever even once questioned anything.:powerlevel:
Back in the day it was very easy to slip through the cracks. Background checks required finding paperwork scattered possibly around the country, being a criminal's family member was not as readily apparent as it would be today. Besides, in the 1980s they were more interested in stopping the Soviets than nitpicking about some bank robberies.

It's unlikely that he actually shot and hit 500+ individual people. What likely happened was bullets hitting multiple people due to them being in a large crowd.

Some (not sure exactly what percentage or how many) of the injuries were related to trampling/running/falling/etc. to get away. Not all the injuries related to this were strictly from being shot. I don't know if they're released an exact number of how many people were actually hit.

Also, don't forget bullet shrapnel. Those slugs hitting the concrete shattered.

And also... I bet even things like a scrapped knee from falling down and needing a stitch is counted among the injured. All it has to do is be reported.

Bump fire stocks, for all the hype, are largely an impractical, overrated range toy. It's possible he had a Hellfire type trigger reset and/or a crank device. There is a device called HyperGAT that enables fast fire on a semi-auto with a crank fire mechanism. I don't know if he had one

I saw pictures of 2 guns on the ground. They definitely had bumpfire stocks, and were mounted on bipods, as reported.
